How did you discover your taste for 🥃? Maybe you went to a event organised by work? 😀 Great idea! 👍 . We just had the pleasure of hosting a tasting for 1100 at @eicc_uk as part of the annual first.org conference which brought computer security professionals from 60 countries 🌍 to #edinburgh and what fun it was 😀 . Guests tried and learnt about different whiskies from @johnniewalker @glenfiddichwhisky and @arranwhisky 😍 with @royalmilewhiskies also present to enable them to take bottles home 😋 . Expect freshness and flavours of pear, creamy peaches, pineapple and a smidgeon of Demerara sugar. Our review of Proper 12. As creators of www.whiskyfightnight.com and judges for @worldwhiskiesawards we’ve been looking forward to trying this 🥃👍 . Rewind to a great weekend; to the @ufc at London’s @theo2london, St Patrick’s Day 🇮🇪 and our first taste of @thenotoriousmma @properwhiskey whiskey 🥃😀 . Round 1. The Nose: Light and welcoming, quite youthful but not to its detriment. With time there is a richness and depth suggesting milk chocolate, honey and a dusting of cinnamon. Explore further and there are aromas of hazelnut walnut whip🍦 . Round 2. The Palate: A strong hit of pepper spice across the mid palate, a slight dryness, then a creaminess. And oh so moorish 😋 . Round 3. The Finish: Medium length with the chocolate suggested on the nose, burnt oak, and then some ginger. A slight harshness appears in the final throes of the finish but it’s subtle and doesn’t detract from our enjoyment 👍 . Intermission. Add Water: Reduces the spice on the palate, evening out the ebbs and flows of flavour, highlighting this whiskies youth. We prefer it neat👌 . Ding Ding 🔔 The Verdict: Proper 12 is good easy drinking whiskey, very competitively priced and available now from @whiskyexchange for about £28. It’s not particularly complex but who cares 🤷‍♂️ #Proper12 will be fun to return to when we fancy a pour of an easy drinking dram 😍 It’s good stuff! . Further thoughts 🧐 . Bottle and Branding: The bottle has a nice weight, and in our view strong branding. Not all bottles pour well, but this one does, refreshing your glass with a few satisfying glugs and no spills or drips (‘precise’ like @thenotoriousmma himself). The @thebalvenie bottle is the same (as we found when pouring it at various #whiskyfightnight events) Suggestion: Give this whiskey and others you enjoy time. Time to open up in the glass. Time for your senses of smell and taste to acclimatise. Time to relax into the moment of appreciation. Italian independent bottler Silver Seal has released some lovely whiskies over the years 🥰🥃😍 such as this 12 year old from Rosebank. It is that time of year when we get oor annual check up with the good doctor. Dr Bill Lumsden that is, and the marvelousness that is the @glenmorangie Private Edition tasting. This year celebrates a decade of Dr Bill’s experiments and as always, surprises abound with his newest Private Edition creation ALLTA (Scot’s Gaelic for ‘wild’) but more on that later. A larger affair than last year, the great and the good aye the whisky world were invited tae deepest darkest Shoreditch, where “The Yard” was divided into three separate event spaces. Each room more fantastic than the previous. On arrival we were gifted a mysterious key 🗝that was promised to unlock hidden secrets later in the evening, ohh, exciting! Pushing through a dark curtain uncovered the first of the three spaces, it was like a large front room, with pictures aye Dr Bill looking magic and landscapes aye the Highlands oan the walls ⛰Towards the far end of the room sat a cabinet of curiosities that held one bottle of all of the previous Private Edition releases 😍 A hint of what was to come later in the evening. Glenmorangie cocktails🍸fabulous people 💃🏻🕺and delicious bites 🍴 A great start! Soon we were welcomed into the second part of the evening. Rows of angled tasting tables either side, a few comfy seats at the front for the VIP’s, above our heads a fantastic canopy of barley ears hanging down drying in the warmth of the room. The stage was set with Glenmorangie’s Global Master Brand Ambassador @glenmoardbegdavid interviewing Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks and @mcc_brendan Glenmorangie’s Head of Maturing Whisky Stocks, ready to guide us through the nights tasting. The tasting consisted of three expressions. Glass number one held our control dram, Glenmorangie 10 Year Old The Original. The award winning 10-year-old expression matured in first and second fill American white oak ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 40% ABV. The familiar aromas of citrus, peaches, vanilla and bright floral notes and that unmistakable Glemnorangie taste of sweet vanilla, orange zing, honey and creamy peaches. Next...to be continued! The final judging round for the World Whiskies Awards was @thecaledonianclub in London a few days ago. The Grain and Rye categories were exciting with many new European entrants, whilst other categories such as Single Malt received an entry from Egypt! Aberfeldy is a wee town in Perthshire, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 which poet Robert Burns mentioned in his work ‘The Birks of Aberfeldy.’ The @dewarsaberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by the sons of John Dewar, this being the only Scotch whisky distillery built by the Dewar family👨‍🔧 It wasn’t until 2005 this 21 year old expression was released, and it has become a bit of a flagship for the brand. Its smooth with some sweetness and a little smoke. Have you tried it? Too tasty? Yup! This Lochside 1964 single blend is one of our all time favourites! 🥃 Robert Scott, former Master Distiller at Speyside Distillers in Glasgow, Scotland knew what he was doing 🕺🤩 As a ‘single blend’ it contains both malt and grain spirit distilled at one location, in this case Lochside distillery (mothballed in 1992 and demolished around 2004/5...RIP). We’ve seen it selling at auction for ~ £450. Interesting wee whisky from White Heather Distillers Ltd 🥃😃 The White Heather brand was launched in the 1950s but abandoned in the 1980s by then owner Pernod Ricard who wished to focus on Clan Campbell whisky.
