Gotta get my Old Guard Two thoughts down!!

What I liked:

When Andy and Quynh were talking at the table in Italy, they leaned forward and back. Andy leans forward, Quynh retreats. Quynh leans in, Andy retreats. This was a GREAT visual of their push-and-pull dynamic for the first part of this movie, and overall I think this movie did a really good job with their relationship!!

Andy and Quynh fighting was also extremely well done; it showed off how well they knew each other and looked good.

Having the climax in a nuclear reactor was pretty cool.

Giving Nile a signature weapon, and a really awesome signature weapon at that.

I really loved the moment where Andy walks back through time to meet Quynh. I just wish they'd explained why that location was significant to them!

The not-so-good:

The new lore is weird! Definitely weird. Some might even say bad XD I don't object to expanded lore in a sequel on principle, but there were several issues here. E.g. Nicky, Joe, and Booker should have been dreaming of Tuah & everyone should have dreamed about Discord. Andy's injury from Nile healed right away while Booker and Quynh's didn't. How on earth did a random legend know about these immortality mechanics? Why did Lykon die if Nile wasn't born yet?

I don't think it's great to write a cliffhanger ending without knowing if there will be a third movie. This isn't Empire Strikes Back, this is a straight-to-streaming movie on a platform infamous for not renewing popular media. They barely got a second one!

Quynh's turnaround felt a little rushed. Andy said two sentences and Quynh let go of the trigger? Something felt missing.

So so dark. Couldn't see a damn thing for a LOT of this movie.

Overall, I did enjoy the movie. I think that its strongest moments were when it was focused on Andy and Quynh's relationship (Nicky, Joe, and Nile were good, but a fairly small part of the movie, and I need to think more about how I feel about Booker's plotline). Like the previous movie, it feels a lot like a series of poignant interpersonal moments glued together with action scenes, which I love. Unfortunately, Merrick was a much stronger antagonist than 'Discord'.

If I could tweak ONE thing about the movie, it would be removing Discord. Quynh already led the charge of the bad guys into the nuclear plant; Discord didn't actually do anything other than kidnap the Old Guard at the end. If Quynh was the sole antagonist, the plot could stay exactly the same, but there would be a much stronger motive for the bomb plan other than "I needed a way to kidnap the good guys". Andy and Quynh's relationship was really well done, and this would only add extra weight to their argument.

Bobby headcanons

Suuuuper smart and business-savvy, but deliberately keeps a cheery and non-chalant attitude to seem more inviting

Bobby can absolutely be assertive if he needs to be, but it's something he's always struggled with and doesn't like to do

He lives in the same tower as Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, just on a different floor. It's not uncommon for them to go back and forth from each other's places unannounced

Sure, his work is stressful, but he chose it because he likes to keep busy and enjoys the wide variety of tasks he gets to do, and all of the varied and amazing people he gets to meet. He's an extreme extrovert

He's great at taking care of others, but doesn't really know how to accept being cared for himself

His fear of being alone extends beyond his fear of Huntrix breaking up. He puts a lot of pride in his work, even to the detriment of his own personal life, so without it, he feels like he has nothing. Not feeling needed absolutely breaks him

He's kind of just... used to Huntrix running off without telling him anything. It's been a thing ever since he started working with them, but he tries not to think about it too much. Acknowledging it makes him feel too distant from his girls
