It's here! (Do you like the new cover??) After nine months, the chapter has finally come. This one took me a long time. I outlined and re-outlined and outline some more. There's something Sisyphean about writing an IF and there were long stretches where it felt like the end was never coming. This was definitely a set-up chapter aka it sets up a lot for chapter 5 and beyond when it comes to the routes and upcoming dramaaaa so I'm excited to see everyone's theories and thoughts on all of the breadcrumbs I drop in this one. I'm really thankful that I worked on Chapter 5 alongside of Chapter 4 because that means Chapter 5 won't take so long to come out! I'm excited for that yippeee! One thing to note: I usually leave the lyric options to the end but I couldn't come up with them this chapter. At all. Like for over a month I just couldn't. I am cashing in my "this is a wip" card and forcing a type-in. (It'll be fixed in chapter 5).

So… how’s the progress going?

WELL UHM

I ended up changing a lot of stuff during my break. Instead of starting with the prologue, as planned, I’ve decided to jump straight into Chapter One. The prologue was starting to spiral into something way too massive (to the point I couldn't call it a prologue anymore) — honestly, it was becoming longer than any of the chapters I’ve planned. And constantly writing variations of the same scene(s) was getting exhausting.

A friend also gave me some solid advice: don’t reveal the Big Thing too early. Don’t worry though—you’re not missing out on any crucial! Everything that I had written for the prologue will still be revealed— just gradually. That will keep me from feelings worn out. (Everything will be out in the open by chapter 7—there’s a lot more drama I need to get to, and I can't let the past hog the spotlight for too long, especially when it’s going to mess character dynamics 💀)

But here's the good news! You’ll get to meet all the ROs in Chapter One—except for Shay.

Also considering of making these little progress reports a weekly thing! This week’s been especially productive—I’m pretty proud of myself. I wrote 10k words for one scene (and it’s still only 1/3rd done… send help).

ahaha, yes! kai is ALWAYS going to be vocal about despising arlo and will never not throw them a nasty look whenever they are on screen. arlo on the other hand, finds riling up kai suuuuuper fun. if the mc is onboard, they can team up with arlo js to piss them off even more by getting extra touchy feely with each other lol.

Their marriage was decent for a while but the cracks began to show when taylor finally took off their rose coloured glasses and started to see shay for who they truly are. They did get married on a whim so they have no one to blame but themselves /j

Things, started to look better once they had monday. Taylor finally had something else to pour their attention into instead of waiting by the phone for shay to call them back. Shay, however, is a much more withdrawn parent. They say, they care about Monday— and maybe they do— but words without action are just that: meaningless talk.

Shay's emotional distance from their own family, is the root of most of their arguments. These days, shay rarely comes home at all. The daily fights drain them out, they say.
