All Die Young (Beast Boy x Reader)

Synopsis: Y/N still loves Garfield but has kept it secret since he started dating Perdita. Everything changes however, when Garfield attempts to fight Gretchen in the X-Pit.

The team stood in silence as Vic used his newfound abilities to scan Granny’s warehouse. 

“There!” he said, as a giant machine appeared from thin air.

“So, the big si-fi machine making a loud nefarious ‘whoom-whoom’. I’m guess it’s Clamulon tech!” Bart exclaimed, continuing to dance and mimic the machine’s sounds, much to everyone’s displeasure.

Y/N elbowed him in the ribs, shooting the speedster a glare. “Not the best time, Bart,” she whispered when he sent her a confused glance.

“Not compatible. Why do I have the sinking feeling I’ll be hearing that a lot tonight?” Jamie lamented, making Y/N guess he was speaking to his scarab.

“Gimme a second. I think I can figure out how to speak its language,” Vic said, placing a hand onto the metallic surface. 

“You speak ‘whoom’?” Bart asked incredulously. The group ignored him.

Before Vic could respond, the floor glowed a bright green as they fell through.

All Y/N could hear was screaming as they fell, stopping to float in the air. Her body felt like it was being ripped apart. Every inch of her skin burned as a sharp pain attacked her skull.

Suddenly, Jaime’s voice grew louder from beside her. Y/N gasped when she saw his armor retract leaving him exposed to whatever was happening.

Ed appeared, grasping onto Bart’s arm, ready to save the team. Relief flooded through Y/N’s body, trusting Eduardo.

“I’ll get you out!” he managed.

Bart cut him off, shakily lifting a hand and pointing to Jamie.

“Start with Jaime!” Bart chocked out.

“Right, I got you!” Ed promised, floating over to Jaime. In a flash of golden light, the two disappeared before reappearing a few feet away.

“No!” Eduardo grunted, trying again to no avail. “Can’t get bearings.”

“Stop, Ed! You’ll hurt yourself!” Y/N called, worried for the meta as he became more exhausted by the second.

“Gotta beat this...” Garfield strained, his arms hugging his chest. 

Seeing the team, her friends, like this, broke Y/N to the core.

Without warning, a red cube encased Garfield, shielding him.

“Gar!” Y/n yelled out, extending a shaking arm towards him.

From behind him, Granny floated down in an identical red cube. Y/N fought against her pain as Granny neared Garfield.

The two exchanged words, that Y/N couldn’t hear through the barrier. Whatever was said prompted Garfield to morph into a rhinoceros and charge at Granny. Miraculously, the villain easily grabbed Garfield by the nose and slammed him to the ground.

Y/N gasped, trying to make her way towards Garfield.

The fight continued, as Y/N helplessly watched Garfield be slammed against the walls. Spots of blood started to line the floor where Garfield had collapsed.

Granny continued to bring her fists down on Garfield.

The scenery faded away, leaving the group back in the warehouse where they started.

Y/N rested her hands on her knees, trying to control her shaking body.

“Overlord! Who told you to stop the lesson?” Granny shrieked, oblivious to the heroes who stood behind her.

Y/N gave Cassie a nod who quickly used her lasso to trap Granny. With Granny distracted, Y/N rushed to Garfield’s side, supporting his weak figure.

“Lesson one: don’t come to the party alone,” he warned Granny as she struggled against Cassie’s grasp.

“I am so cranky right now,” Cassie grunted, a scowl covering her face.

Garfield sent Ed to check on Vic and Jaime as they struggled to stand. Ed disappeared and Bart began running around tying Granny up in the lasso.

With the rest of the team busy, Y/N turned to Garfield.

“Gar, are you okay?” she asked, concern lacing her eyes.

He gave a weak smile, brushing her question off.

“I’m serious, Gar,” Y/N frowned. He sighed in response, prompting Y/N to lift a hand, gently wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.

“I thought I lost you. I couldn’t stand seeing you like that- like this,” she continued close to tears.

Behind them, the team quietly finished their mission, before ushering the two onto the bioship.

Granny had gotten away but Y/N didn’t care so long as Garfield was with her. She led him to the closest chair in the ship, moving to find a wash cloth and water.

She returned quickly, carefully dabbing his swollen eye with the cold compress. Garfield flinched under the touch, his hand moving to rest on top of Y/N’s. 

“Y/N/N, thank you,” he rasped out, removing the cloth from his eye to meet her eyes. 

“No problem, you’d do the same for any of us,” Y/N replied, turning away from his gaze.

“What’s wrong, Y/N/N?” Garfield asked, placing a hand on her cheek.

“Nothing.”

“I know it’s not nothing, Y/N/N.”

Y/N broke down, tears falling into her lap. “We almost lost you, Gar. I ca- I can’t live without you here. I- I love you, Gar.”

A tense silence fell between the two, everyone on the bioship trying to act like they didn’t hear the conversation. 

Bart’s eyes widened, as he glanced to Jaime. “Crash,” he whispered, thinking about everything he had learned from the future.

“Y/N, I’m with Perdita. I love her.”

“I know, Gar.”

The rest of the trip was silent, neither Garfield nor Y/N knowing what to say.
