The entire “Derek picks up Stiles after school in his Camaro and waits for him leaning on the passenger side door and when Stiles finally gets out of the building everyone is staring at them because Stiles lowkey runs into Derek’s arms and they kiss passionatly and Derek lifts him off his feet a bit” trope may be overused and cheesy but it is one of best things ever written in this fandom.

Out of all the recent laments about literacy in college students I think this review of a study of English majors at a university in Kansas is a good one because it really helps show what “not being able to read” actually means: it’s a lack of being able to pick up context clues even with assistance and time. I also like that the author notes that this has been happening for a WHILE now; it predates GenAI stuff by at least a decade. as someone who once helped revise English papers for people in my program (in 2015/16) I can confirm that they were also this distressed and overwhelmed by basic literacy. And it’s not really a lament that this could never be taught, more a target issue for universities handing out degrees. Woof, though.
