People NEED your books, stories, poems, paintings, jewelry, dolls, knitting, tapestries, vases, weaving, dishes, every creation that comes from your hands. Every creation is a punch back at the haters and the heartless. Every word puts hope or thought or dreams or solace or fire into those who read it. You become a different voice from the bullyraggers and the foolish; your ideals, wishes and convictions reach your audience, whether they are reading Dr. Seuss or James Joyce. You convey food for hope and imagination whether you realize it or not, and the most innocuous-seeming work gives those who partake of it something to go on with. Keep soldiering on. Comedian or philosopher, baker or glassblower, writer of tomes or fan fiction, you’re needed now more than ever.

Shay is sitting in her therapy session when her phone goes off. - Shay: oh, ah, do you mind? It’s Jackie. It might be about the house. *answers phone* Oh....mm hmm... - Jackie’s voice over the phone: Till later, ash tray. - Therapist: I didn’t mean to overhear, but ... did Jackie just call you….Ash Tray? - Shay: It varies from day to day. Ash Tray, cray cray, hear say, ray ray. Mel torme’. Really whatever rhymes with ‘Shay’ - Therapist: how endearing - Shay: What?! No. No he doesn’t mean it as an endearment. It’s to tease me - Therapist: ah-huh. He teases the others? - Shay: Oh, HEAPS. He has nicknames for them too – he calls Hugo Hugsy, and Cain ‘Red Thunder’, it’s quite a funny story actually. Jackie was out in the garden and….what? - Therapist: Can I make an observation - Shay: I’m going to say no - Therapist: You know Shay, we don’t necessarily have to talk about just anxiety all the time. - Shay stays silent - Therapist: So Shay, on your latest Anxiety Scale, you noted that your overall happiness levels as highest when you’re cooking or reading. Can you isolate why this is the case?   - Shay: Of course! Yes, well I enjoy it because uhhhh… *Shay flashes back to cooking*  when she’s cooking in the kitchen at 6.30 every night, Jackie comes home and sits on the counter, with his dirty boots. - Shay: oi! take those off. - Jackie: my pants? If you say so! - Shay swats him with the wooden spoon: This is a hygienic cooking space. - Another flashback, Jackie is stealing some cookies off a hot tray. - Jackie: ouch! - Shay turns around and gives him a disapproving look, grabs his hand and runs it under cold water - Jackie: It wasn’t me? - Another flashback – Shay goes to get a book out from the top shelf. She has to lean over Jackie’s chair to reach it. Happens a few times. - Jackie: what is that rubbish? - Shay: It happens to be john donne. - Jackie looks blankly - Shay: he’s a poet. - Jackie: Read me some. - Shay: You’ll hate it. - Jackie: try me - Shay, back in the present, putting her burning face in her hands: oh no. Oh GOD no.

Jackie is a gambling addict who has a really knack for anything mathematical or mechanical, which he uses to his advantage to get what he wants, or to mess with people. He’s energetic, manipulative, loud, and extremely irritating to all who meet him. He used to be a stock broker. He annoys everyone in the house, except for Hugo. He teases Shay light-heartedly a little more than the others, deduce from that what you will.

Meet the actual Cinnamon roll, Hugo <3

Hugo is a sweet, quiet, and reflective person, who experiences depressive episodes. He’s smart, bisexual, and is a university student, studying art and psychology as a double major. He finds it hard to leave the house sometimes, but he is getting better at spending time with his new family. Him and Jackie sometimes buddy-buddy around, and he is bewildered by the attention he gets from Cain.

Meet the gang’s host, Cain! Cain is currently on suspension from work as a banker for his anger management issues. He lost the plot and smashed up the place. He owns the house where the study is taking place; basically he’s loaded. He’s an established gay character, has a short fuse, and rides a motorbike. Cain is especially protective of Hugo, and is the most irritated by Jackie. They tend to butt heads a bit.

Well hello Tumblr!

From the beginning, then?

I’m dedicating this blog to a project close to my heart - a television script for an original show. I’m mainly wanting to show people my OCs and dialogue and get some feedback, and hopefully, make you laugh along the way! I have 0 followers at the moment, so we’ll see how this pans out *laughs and sweats nervously*.

The premise is this: Four young strangers with varying stages of mental illness live in a house together, as part of a rehabilitation program that encourages socialisation and cohabitation. It’s supposed to be a comedy. I’m writing this because as someone who suffers from anxiety, I’m loving seeing more representation of people with mental illness in the media, and I dearly want to create something that plays to that tune. Ultimately I just want to show that people with mental illness are just everyday people, and they are allowed to have stories and funny things happen to them! We aren’t doomed, and we aren’t just a plot device. We are real and complicated.

Please be gentle - my dialogue has never been seen by human eyes! Only my cats’.

So my next post will be introducing the characters! Hope you tune in!
