Saturday 5th April 2025
It’s been a couple weeks since I last posted. Things have been so busy! I swear, it’s like I’m barely keeping up with the course load each week and before I know it I’ve gotta start all over again and I haven’t even properly studied the material yet. Basically, the weekly assignments are three reading quizzes, 1-2 lab assignments, and fortnightly discussion points. I have 2 major assignments due on Wednesday, and it’s the beginning of essay season right now.
Yesterday I sat down and got through:
my ancient history lecture
my archaeology readings
2 reading quizzes
Finally finished my stratigraphy assignment (due Wednesday) where we draw a profile of the dirt in the above photo, describe each layer and then write a depositional history of what happened there
On the agenda today:
Figure skating lesson
I have to buy a pack and a tent for my upcoming trips
Starting on the next big assignment - an annotated bibliography for my human evolution class
So glad that there’s only one week left before the mid semester break! I’m especially looking forward to the 3 day tramping trip with the tramping club next weekend!

Tidied my notes for ancient history and made them readable
Went to my Roman Empire lecture
I went on a date today! With a guy I met on my way to class yesterday. We went for lunch in the winter gardens and then walked around a bit before I had class. It went really well and we’re going to go hiking next time.

Week 9, Sunday, Mars 16, 2025 🫀
I finished the first week of my internship in cardiology. And it was very tiring. But only physically, which is good because the environment is pleasant, I learned a lot and I'm enjoying it, despite the amount of work.
That's why I didn't study as much as I wanted for the residency test, but this week my workload will be lighter so I'll have more time to study.
Keep swimming...

Today was my sister’s birthday and I promised her I would make her a cake. Luckily my lecture wasn’t until 3pm and I didn’t have work this morning so I had plenty of time to make it!

Baked and decorated L’s birthday cake (super happy with how it turned out!)
Baked a loaf of bread
Went to uni for my Roman Empire lecture

Currently reading 📖: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I know it’s popular but I’m struggling to get into it and I’m through 75% of it. It feels like it isn’t going anywhere and I don’t like the characters. Has anyone else read this series?

For several weeks I thought I was in a reading slump, but guess what? as soon as I decided to dnf the Grady Hendrix book I started reading physical books again. The magic trick has been done with the help of the graphic novel adaptation of Lord Of The Flies, which I recently got and I am loving. I never read the novel, but it's been on my tbr for ages, so when I found the graphic novel adaptation I thought it would be the perfect way to finally get to know the story before one day finally read the actual novel. The art is stunning, and I would have already finished it if I wasn't holding myself to actually savour it. The other book that completly pulled me out of my slump is The Decagon House Murders, yesterday I ended up reading 170 pages without even realizing. I am having such a great time with it.
25/50 days of productivity:
read first thing in the morning
continued working on the recorded lectures for my spaces of knowledge class
went to an in person lecture (it was so boring I truly hope tomorrow will be better)
Irish on duolingo
📖: The Decagon House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji, A Psalm For The Wild Built by Becky Chambers

8/3/25
So after taking a 3 year break from my degree, I am back to finish it!
Semester one officially started on Monday and it is so good to be studying again. I will be part time this semester, taking 3 courses instead of 4 so that I can also work more hours.
Semester One courses:
ANTHRO 200 Archaeology: understanding the past (I took this course in 2021 but dropped out because online learning wasn’t working for me. Hoping to pass this time!)
ANTHRO 201 Human evolution
ANCIENT 255 the later Roman Empire
Today’s to do list was
9am figure skating lesson (I live a 2 hour bus ride away though so it takes up half my day)
A200 Tapuwae reading
A200 reading quiz first attempt
watch the NZ vs AUS ice hockey game 5pm

hello ✮
I've been a bit sad because I'm taking way more time than neurotipical people to finish my degree, between my adhd and mental health struggles my uni career has been quite slow which tends to demotivate me.
To counteract this I've been watching millie lao's yt videos, she's a student at Yale and makes uni life seem so fun and light. I put her videos in the background and it feels like studying with a friend which keeps me in check 🌀
Tumblr media
Rn I'm studying linguistics which is one of the most difficult exams I still have to do, so on one side I truly want to lock in to get it off my checklist!
adhd tips of the day:
✮ if it doesn't distract you, put on a studying video on yt for background noise and to keep that part of the brain that wants to wander around focused on the academic vibe
✮ use a nice scented candle, this might sound stupid but smells keep the mind interested and soothed (in the pic you can see the chocolate scented one I love)
Q: how do you keep your concentration up?
