Drawtober 2024 Prompt 6: Monster

“Mashford Market does Monster Mondays. It’s kind of like Senior Sunday, but for the folks who don’t like drawing attention from the more ‘average’ customers. Mr. Wolfe always comes in on Mondays. You’d think he would be used to it, being a circus star and everything, but I guess even celebrities can get tired of the stares.”

(Whoo, I did it! 😮‍💨 This month was a little rough with everything else I had going on but it was definitely fun to reuse characters from previous Drawtober challenges. They officially all belong to the same universe now! Happy Halloween!)

Drawtober 2024 Prompt 5: Ghost

“Every once and a while we’ll get some ghosts in the store. The older ones often need a bit of extra help, getting familiar with more modern products. The baking mixes are usually a big hit.”

“The local zombies have found that ground beef makes a pretty reasonable substitute for brains. Unfortunately they sometimes get a little…excited, and forget to take their meal outside the store.”

Drawtober 2024 Prompt 3: Witch

“Bri’s always placing special orders for her coven. Lately they’ve been getting crates and crates of apples. It’s nice to catch up with her when helping carry the crates out but I can’t help but wonder what all the apples are for. Maybe they’re trying to win first prize for apple pie at this year’s harvest festival?”

Drawtober 2024: An Introduction

“Hey there, I’m Gracie! I’ve worked at the Mashford Market for 5 years now. Mr. Mashford says he’s never had anyone stick around that long. Apparently the customers eventually spook people enough to quit? I can’t imagine why though, they’re all so interesting!”

A little intro for my take on Drawtober this year! I told myself I was going to go simpler this time around since I have another project and wedding planning to work on. Then I go and make a brick wall. 🤦‍♀️ I expect I may be behind for the first prompt or two, considering tomorrow is the first deadline and I haven’t actually started that illustration yet. Oops.

This is what I’ve been working on for almost 10 years! And what inspired my custom Lego designs! It’s so cool (and also kinda weird) to finally have it at the observatory!

I keep forgetting to post these, I finished this stamp like a month ago. I love how it turned out! There are 3 different color ways, “aura”, “dawn”, and “stars”. Technically the stars color way isn’t quite correct yet, I need to get a nice dark navy ink.

I’m making stamps to slowly work up to a 4-layer print for an illustration I’ve had in my head for years. This was to practice the moon and an option for texturing clouds. Next I’ll be doing a 3-layer print to see how the colors interact.

I can finally post this now that it’s been gifted! I made this for @commanderjim for his birthday. Such itty bitty fiddly 1.5” squares of tissue paper. It really fought being assembled into a plant but I am SO happy with how it turned out. It was a very fun present to give. 😊

All the patterns I used were traditional, from guides found online.

Soooo it seems like people like the space crows. I’m so pleased you’re enjoying them, have some more. 😅 (My art has never gotten this much traction before I don’t know what’s happening)

In addition to the “standard” colorway I’ve started doing some experimentation with the color layout, trying to get that galaxy effect. Turns out it’s kind of hard to recreate on purpose something you did completely on accident before you knew what you were doing. I also tried editing these photos a bit more so they look more like the real prints because they photograph pretty terribly.

The space crow lives! This is a callback to one of the first shrinky dink pins I ever made, now recreated as my very first solo carve. I’m very pleased with how it turned out! It took a few tries to get the coloring just right. I also ended up quite liking the solid blue, and the first test print which had a bit of a galaxy affect. I think I’ll have to experiment with that a bit more.

I got ink pads and a bunch of other printmaking materials for Christmas and I’ve been having fun!! These are the first 6 mini prints I’ve made, along with a closeup of the 3 I did today and some of my setup. I think I’m starting to get the hang of which colors to use, and am now experimenting a bit with blending. This will be very important for the next carving I plan to make.

I thought it’d be fun to post these all together, since I love how they look as a set. I lightened up the first two so they’re a little more in line with the rest.

“G…ghosts! Real ghosts!” In their shock, Fen drops the lantern before scrambling out of the ballroom and running out of the manor as fast as possible. As their cries fade into the distance, one of the ghosts mutters, “Well finally. Don’t they know it’s rude to show up to a party you’re not invited to?”

I’m declaring this done! This has been a fun set of illustrations, it’s definitely fun seeing them all together.

“Of course there are puppets in the attic. Because this house wasn’t weird enough.” While kind of creepy, Fen hasn’t seen any sign of the manor being haunted. Clearly all those stories are nonsense.

I may have fiddled with this one more but I just got my covid vaccine and the side effects have come on strong.

“Stupid batteries…” Apparently the old flashlight Fen had found was a little older than they thought. At least the moon lit up the conservatory well enough. And hey, is that a lantern? Maybe there are matches somewhere around here…

Posting on the last day, now that’s more like it. I used literally all my allowed layers on this one.
