A NEW SITE APPEARS
Actually, it’s been around for a month and some, but also I have a Patreon, and now it’s got a good little amount of things on it and is all set for weekly (and some mid-weekly) updates. Basically, my site is working towards being a portfolio and portfolio-pieces archive. And the Patreon gets all the WIPs, snippets, behind-the-scenes, and prompt pieces.
On that note, follow me on twitter for chatter about writing, prompt invitations, 15 word fiction (weekly roundup posted on Patreon), and real living human being me.
Thank you all for keeping up with me here. I hope you enjoy the new sites, content, and formatting~
Once more:

This is me!! Follow my travel-y write-y site-y if you want to see the kick-ass doubleknit scarf I’m spending my summer making.
Hey folks!
Long time, no tumbls. A lot has happened since I was too lazy to set up a new blog and too lazy to log back into this one. This summer I’m biking across Canada (and back!), check out my new space for updates on that, plus all that writing stuff I do.

So what IS a sock blank? The sock blanks sold by Wild Yarn Dreams are a piece of knitted fabric I have made on my flatbed knitting machine. I have used two strands of sock yarn held together. Then I have dyed the ‘blank’ into a pattern.
To knit with a sock blank you take the ending out of the live stitches on one side of the blank, and you unravel it as you knit. Because there are two strands of yarn, they have been dyed identically, and that’s why blanks are very suitable for things you need two of: socks, gloves, armwarmers, etc.
They are particularly suitable for knitting two-at-a-time, but if you prefer to do one sock, then the other, you could always wind the thread you’re not using into a ball and do that one later.
As you can see in the photos, the colour pattern on the final product will be completely different from the blank. To a degree I can design for a certain effect (I can tell you if it will stripe, for instance) but you never know exactly how it’s going to turn out. That’s the joy of them, and I find that it’s very motivating to keep knitting, as the next interesting colour change is just around the corner. (sadly I have no photo of a project made with the slow gradient blanks)
Because the yarn has been knit before it will probably be a little kinky, but this doesn’t generally hinder you in knitting it up at all. Just gently wash the finished project and the stitches will be just as smooth as any other project. There are currently a few blanks in the shop - I’m busy dyeing Big Squish winter yarn for an upcoming market - but I’m always happy to talk about dyeing a custom one if you have something in mind.

Trying out different ways to make spiderwebs, pretty happy with that one.
I meant to leave the back blank but it looked kinda boring??? So I ended up doing this instead.

Reminder that if you are talking to a fellow yarn worker (knit, crochet, etc) and start saying anything judgemental about their choice of yarn type (acrylic, acrylic blend, anything that’s NOT merino wool or silk blend) then you are a big, giant, mean oaf. “Good” yarn is ***expensive***. It should not be required that a casual hobby break the bank. A relaxing activity should not cost you an arm and a leg. A free gift should not be judged for material type.
So be nice.

Hexipuff Sunday number 77, a delayed 2 year anniversary.
All together I have completed 1280 hexipuffs, and I don’t think all of those are displayed, I got about another 70-80 (I’m too tired to count).
I was going to make the blanket 45 columns, but it looks huge and absolutely cuddly at 36. Plus that’s an extra 21 inches of width, I think.
I’ve sewn 9 columns together, the rest are individual hexipuffs.

Here is the pattern charted out. The repeat is only 4 stitches wide, so there are 4 repeats in the chart. There are 6 rows of solid stitches between each run of the pattern. This is my first attempt at charting a pattern to share.
