Why I think mocking Zamii’s art shouldn’t discourage young/budding artists.

DISCLAIMER: I’ve never really had any formal training in the arts, and I’m totally self-taught. Don’t take all of my advice as gospel, but at least try to see where I’m coming from.

Currently there are three types of people in the whole Zamii debate. 1. The group of massive assholes who still defend her???? Fuck yourself. 2. People who think that it’s fine to mock her art. And 3. People who think that you SHOULDN’T mock her art.

Now, people from Group 3 use the argument that it throws artists under the bus if they were inspired by her art and learned from it. This argument is probably valid, but I’m hoping to explain the reasons we laugh at her art. Which also hopefully have useful advice.

Argument 1: Zamii has gotten worse at drawing.

The insults towards this should hopefully teach younger artists that sometimes LESS IS MORE. Adding detail is cool sometimes, and is a decent way to improve, but unless you make EVERYTHING hyper-detailed, things like July 2015 up there stick out like a sore thumb. The only time a hugely detailed thing should be somewhere it shouldn’t be is if it’s played for Comic Effect™. It shouldn’t be a legitimate style. Because it makes your art look as cluttered and gross as July 2015, and it isn’t worth the effort, meaning it’s just making extra work for you.

This also teaches you to accept criticism and learn. Zamii doesn’t do this, and these are the results.

Argument 2: ZAMII COPY/PASTES AND MIRRORS.

You see, this is an IMPORTANT thing to mock and discourage. Zamii doing this is directly condoning and teaching it. She’s also promoting a habit. What I mean by this is if you draw half an image then mirror it, and you realise that it’s easier, you do it again. And again. And again. This not only makes drawing menial and tedious, but means that your art looks lazy and unnatural because people aren’t symmetrical. It also limits your art to poses that you can mirror to finish, meaning you don’t get varied, asymmetrical art. It’s not worth it.

Argument 4: ZAMII EXCLUDES IN HER ART.

Zamii purposefully draws Connie’s nose small and purposefully drew Rose as a stick figure because she is an asshole. This teaches us that style shouldn’t exclude difference. Your style should be capable of different body types, and not drawing Connie’s nose big for no reason other than (presumably) she thinks it’s “ugly” is racist as fuck.

Another point, though, is that you shouldn’t strive to draw caricatures of different races like she did here.

Although you should at least attempt to draw people of different races and ethnicities, make sure to do it tastefully. Unlike. This shit right here.

Also, an important thing to remember in terms of the art-hate is that these complaints often come from people who have drawn all their lives, improved more than Zamii, strived to include difference while avoiding caricature yet they haven’t LANDED A CUSHTY JOB AT FREDERATOR LIKE SHE HAS.

If you have a style partially inspired from hers, learn from her mistakes and improve. It’s not like she has.

Also she’s a piece of paedo defending shit so fuck her.
