Know the difference between pushing and forcing. It takes strength to change and get outside of your comfort zone. But it takes persistence and a hunger to thrive to get the overall results you're seeking. I met these strong women through midnight party rides to track bike races and have to say we have been through ups and downs over the past 7 years. Sometimes we quit, get injured, or pursue other passions, but we keep returning to the sport and love of cycling. Setbacks happen and it's acknowledging what happened, staying aware, taking action, and asking for help when you need it. While you can't force results you definitely can get an army behind you helping push forward. As I heal and strengthen from this injury I found supporting my friends in many ways, cycling or not, to give me the strength to improve physically and mentally. Change happens when you decide to start with action. A winner isn't made overnight. They're made over many days of losing and turning that "failure" into a learning experience to grow stronger and smarter. I felt underprepared competing against pros but I enjoyed the chase and racing with friends. My pinching booty strategy didnt work quite as planned ;) I find #racing to be the best way to get better cause nothing else quite simulates the intensity physically and mentally. It's about giving your personal best and encouraging yourself and others to get out there! Change starts with a goal placed into #action with one small step. Focus on the context first then content. It doesn't matter what your dream is but HOW you go about doing it. . . . A few years ago I was a night rider wanting to challenge myself past party rides. I jumped into the #SheWolfAttackTeam Tuesday hustle rides and got hooked! I had no idea it would introduce me to thousands of people or cycle to hundreds of places. My #context continues to be about spreading the love and community of cycling. I'm fortunate to be in a strong network but it wouldn't have happened without me visualizing then pursuing the opportunities. I dreamt of racing Red Hook, going "fixie pro", and traveling the world for #cycling events. I consistently cycled and trained, reached out for local support, and created a flexible work life as my content. . Ais Wednesday: Today I cried for the people I've hurt, for the pain I've indirectly caused, and in rememberance of my mom, a bold woman who loved me yet caused heartache. Since moving to Oakland and being diagnosed with herpes I've been keeping my cool and not fully grieving what I've left and who I've affected. The feelings flooded me and instead of crying like I would 10 years ago I left the house to explore unfamiliar territory doing what I love, cycling. As I felt my legs ache after being off the bike during a painful outbreak, I began to say what I'm grateful for, which is my mom raising me to be a strong independent woman and how to unconditionally love. I'm sorry for the pain, yet I know I've done what I can in the now. Chase those dreams, kid!! . . . Mad stoked about getting to race my strong friends helping each other with pacelining and cornering! From finishing 3rd so many times I won this shirt as 3rd at a #soSWAT alleycat as motivation to keep going after that W. Thanks to @mobbinmonday for throwing down cash when the pressure was on from guys to not equally split the winnings. I don't understand the logic of why not give women the appreciation and respect that they're working as hard as the guys. Sure we have a smaller field but it's up to race organizers to show women they care and value us as equals and as athletes. I noticed people in #NYC getting their heads stuck #LookingDown at the ground and complaining about their situations of working so much to make rent. I felt this weight and was pissed off adapting the first week when I almost got hit several times, no brakes, and no rules.
