On of my final projects for Handbuilding II. I really enjoy freehand molding these bases without much of a plan and just seeing where the clay wants to go.

First post!! Hey everyone! I heard a lot of artists have been coming to tumblr because other platforms haven’t been so great so I thought I’d try it out!
This is a teapot study I unloaded from a soda kiln last week. I wanted to see how variations in handle changed the overall form and function of the pot. I really like the overarching handle the most aesthetically but it’s kind a pain to get the tea out when your done. The side handle looks nice too but only works well if your right handed I suppose.

Unconventional cup/base combo from my second hand-building class. I think this was my first attempt at mixing functional-ish pieces with sculptural bases
The light blue glaze on the cup is one I mixed myself!

This is from my first semester of hand-building. I struggled with this piece a lot as I made it and ended up cutting out and rebuilding several large sections along the way. It's glazed with a fake ash glaze with rutile that I mixed myself. I still don't love this piece but it was a big learning experience for wrangling challenging pieces into something that feels complete

Wheel-thrown jar with a squirrel knob! One of my favorite things I made during my second wheel throwing class.

I threw this weird little jar during my second semester of wheel. The jar is loosely inspired by a jar I saw at the VMFA but didn't realize it until I went back to the museum and had a fun "OHHH that's where idea came from" moment

I made this during my first semester of hand-building. My prof had shown us the original bowl below the semester prior and I could not stop thinking about it until I made one for myself

I went through a phase during my second wheel-throwing class where all I wanted to do was sculpt tiny animals and use them as jar knobs. I'm actually pretty proud of this hawk jar that I made for my dad.

A reductive cut rubber block print for my relief class! I was really hungry the morning we started this so I made a breakfast print.
