We’re proud to announce that Smithfields Social Media has been appointed by the UK Food Council to lead the national campaign supporting UK farmers as they call on the Government to rethink its Inheritance Tax policy.
At stake? The future of British farming.
Farmers don’t want to protest on the streets of London - they want to do what they do best: put food on our tables.
This campaign aims to shine a light on the urgent need for reform, giving a voice to those who grow, raise, and harvest the food that feeds our nation. Commentary and Press Release at: https://foodcouncil.uk/farming

Touch Down
Working with a client who design and build custom mobile catering vehicles, our social media strategy converted into a success – catching the attention of one of England’s top rugby union clubs. Their contract catering company reached out, and we put our client and the club together.
The outcome? Three catering trailers ordered, with more opportunities later in the year. Looking to increase sales and expand market reach - we can team up with you on that.

Restaurants to be banned from withholding tips from staff from today
From today, restaurants will be banned from withholding tips from staff under new rules. Over 2 million workers will now keep an estimated £200m in tips annually. While this is a win for workers, some fear restaurants may raise prices to offset costs. The law covers both cash and card tips, ensuring fairness and transparency in tip distribution. Employers must pass tips, within the month, on without deductions, keep records, and can’t adjust wages based on tips.

Is AI the Next Tech Bubble or an Unstoppable Force Shaping Our Future?
AI's rapid rise has sparked debate: Is it just another tech bubble, or will it become so integral to daily life that its impact is irreversible? Historically, some technologies have been overhyped and failed to deliver, like the dot-com bubble. However, AI's unique ability to adapt and transform industries—from healthcare to finance—sets it apart. Unlike past tech, AI isn't just a tool; it's a foundational technology with the potential to be as essential as electricity or the internet.
The question remains: Can we even predict what AI will be by 2050? While some applications might be overhyped, the advancements we've already seen suggest AI could become a permanent, indispensable part of our world. The challenge lies in managing its evolution to ensure it benefits society long-term. By 2050, AI might not just be a technology but a necessity. image: Google Deep Mind

How to get more fries out of McDonald’s
McDonald’s Fries It turns out, that if you buy 5 portions of medium fries you get more fries than buying 4 large portions - you also save 21p. The maths holds true for 7 medium portions compared to 6 large portions, after which you will save money but get fewer fries.

Bentley to end production of ultra-performance 12-cylinder engine as it transitions to EVs
The 6.0-liter W12 that powers Bentley's most prestigious vehicles has officially been discontinued. By April next year, the luxury automaker will no longer produce a 12-cylinder engine. Very few build slots of the W12 remain and the motor's production line will be replaced with capacity for V6 and V8 assembly.
Good bye old chap, you had a sound so sweet - pure motoring pleasure.

Citroën creates a sustainable car - constructed of cardboard
A snapshot into tomorrow so imagine a world starved of resources where carmakers have to resort to replacing the metal in your car's roof and bonnet with cardboard. Hello 'Oli', a new concept car created by Citroën in anticipation of a resourceless world, using cardboard instead of steel for those parts.
This is no ordinary cardboard, but a specialised honeycomb format reinforced with plastic coating on each side that is strong enough to be stood on without buckling.
It has been developed in partnership with German chemical giant BASF (BASFn.DE). This and a vertical windscreen designed to reduce the amount of glass needed and save weight make the electric Citroën "Oli" concept car look like a futuristic SUV.

Call for drones to deliver freight along the Thames to cut pollution
Delivery of freight by drones travelling along the River Thames could cut pollution drastically and improve Londoners’ health, according to drone technology expert Robert Garbett, founder of the Drone Major Group. Garbett is calling on the UK government and the London Mayor to launch a maritime drone initiative, starting with London and expanding to other UK cities, to help take freight of city roads and cut pollution.

Annual Colour of the Year Awards 2022
There is something wonderfully absurd about the 'Annual Colour of the Year Awards', which attempt to dress up selling paint as a sort of sociological barometer. What shade captures the public mood right now?
What hue best describes the world today? According to Dulux, that would be 'Wild Wonder'. The paint-maker describes it as a “positive, glowing tone, inspired by the natural world.” Think magnolia with a hangover.

In the coming hours, the American space agency will crash a probe into an asteroid. Nasa's Dart mission wants to see how difficult it would be to stop a sizeable space rock from hitting Earth.
The demonstration is taking place some 11 million km away (7 million miles) on a target called Dimorphos. The agency says the rock is not currently on a path to hit the Earth, nor will the test accidentally send it in our direction.
The impact is timed for 23:14 GMT, Monday (00:14 BST, Tuesday). Telescopes will be watching from afar, including the new super space observatory James Webb.

Foreign investment grows in north of England but falls in rest of UK
The value of foreign direct investment into the north of England has risen by almost three-quarters in the past five years while falling in every other part of the UK, including London.
Analysis of market data and government statistics carried out by the Northern Powerhouse Partnership lobby group — whose economists include former Treasury minister Lord Jim O’Neill — also shows that the north has increased its share of the UK’s FDI projects from 19 per cent to 33 per cent over the same period, overtaking London. The number of jobs created in the north rose by 18 per cent.
