You’re painfully aware of Irene’s gawking, uncomfortable stare as Taehyung nonchalantly plants his plump lips against your temple. If it wasn’t eight in the morning, you might have even protested, but the warmth of Taehyung’s arms around your body has you in a lull, a sort of zombified state of mind. He tucks a stray piece of your loose bun behind your ear, taking you into his fullest capabilities as he pulls you in again. You can almost trace the very prominent vein that runs along his full right arm. You wonder how you’ve not noticed he’s been working out lately. The sun barely peeks through the drawn curtains leaving the living room space warm, in a shade of amber that turns his brown locks, gold. It doesn’t help move you away from that early morning haze, your thoughts almost abandoning the very prominent acknowledgement of Irene’s appalled presence. If Taehyung notices your classmate merely inches away with her mouth hanging open and arms crossed, he doesn’t say anything about it. He simply retracts from your hug, your arms automatically wrapping around yourself in hopes of preserving any shred of loss from his warmth. Your head follows Taehyung as he stops towards the kitchen counter to pick up the bagged lunch you’ve prepared for him, and you can’t help stifle a laugh when you catch Irene doing the same. Even though classes for him start much later in the day, his leaving this early is a fairly common occurrence for the young photographer; he had always seemed to have found something new to gaze at in his viewfinder with morning hikes. As he pivots towards the door, the chiselled expanse that is Taehyung’s right shoulder unintentionally brushes against the pointed corner of Irene’s baby blue blazer and the scoff she lets out signals that she is more than vexed. He places his hand on the doorknob before turning around, his gaze settling on the far distance between the door to you.

You took a sip of your coffee, shaking your head slightly at Fei who had not shut up for a single second about Kai from the moment that you’d settled yourself onto a chair in the coffee shop. It turned out that you hadn’t been the only one to leave with someone else that night, Fei having left with Kai, something that she usually didn’t do. She was one of the much more conservative ones in your little group.

Your mind drifted to Baekhyun, again. It kept happening more the longer you’d gone on trying to avoid him and you wondered why things had to be so hard for you. Fei had no problem admitting that she liked Kai, was very attracted to him and trying to get advice from all of you on the best way to go about that. You, on the other hand, were keeping everything buried as deeply inside of yourself as you possibly could.

This was the first opportunity that you’d had to see the girls since your birthday, each of you being too busy with your studies and jobs to find the time. You loved them, but you wished that they’d change the subject to something else. It was silly of you, but Fei’s openness in regards to Kai frustrated you, mainly because you couldn’t find it in yourself to be able to do the same.

You missed him. It wasn’t something that you’d thought you’d be willing to admit, well… ever. But here you were, finally owning up to that one small fact. The distance between the both of you was your fault, you knew that, but you weren’t sure what to do about it. You’d grown used to the flirting, the touching and the cheeky smiles after he’d brush his lips against your skin when he thought nobody was watching and you really did miss it.
