Elder Berry for me, community, for the birds and for future generations I will say there will likely be Sambucas growing abundantly in the west side of Rochester in the next few years due to these plants and birds carrying their medicine and seed outside of my modest and over grown garden. Where my family comes from in Greece( the country) is home to northern woodlands filled with Sambucas, Chestnut, Beech, Oak and lots of other Fall offerings. Good Morning! Καλημερα! This is a reminder + teaser about our offering this Fall in Greece! Mushrooms + Culture of Greece October 13-23, 2022 11 days, ten nights! Ive been coming to Greece my whole life, and gratefully speak the language...little did I know, as a youngster, that where my family stems from is a mycological wonderland and botanical haven. Its my dear pleasure to share this home with you and to share my most loved markets, tavernas and of course, foraging nooks. Its a dream! Our first half of the trip we reside on the west coast Ionian island of Lefkada, a forested place rich in biodiversity and home to the worlds most photographed beaches. We spend time with local herbalists, makers + life long residents to get the scoop on this treasured place. Our second half of our trip returns inland to the deeply forested, protect lands around Tzoumerka. Put it this way, every time we mention to Greeks we are visiting this area, they stop and say...oooooh Tzoumerka! Found in the southern Pindus mountain range. This area is a stunner for mycorrhizal findings, incredible vistas, animals, plants and food! This offering is not for the person looking for a cookie cutter experience, that is static, unimaginative, pampered with a server sending you drinks on the hour...thats not whats happening here. We are living each day as people wanting to learn from the land and its stewards. We eat the best food and learn to make some of those classic Greek/Balkan staples. We soak in the sun, water and listen to the pollinators buzzing around seaside Arnica, Chaste Tree and Thyme. We walk ancient trails linking the past to the present & often return back to our maker space to prepare medicine, meals and to relax from long days in the field. We are hands on, we are here to learn and to engage with locals and the traditional ways of being. Fireside meals, mushroom festivals, pristine beaches, fresh water springs, and thick mossy forest duff. Few spots left for our all inclusive offering + plenty of A La Carte spots still available!
