Hiccup's Fair Queens:

Astrid Haddock, Queen of Vikings:

Hiccup's true love and closest friend, aside from Toothless. Despite being raised by a competent and well respected Viking family, the Hofferson Clan originally, like all Viking families on Old Berk killed dragons, that was until Hiccup defied centuries of traditions by bonding with Toothless and slaying the Red Death, ultimately ending the war between Vikings and dragons.

As Queen of Vikings, Astrid is the most powerful woman in Scandinavia, one of the best dragon riders, third in place of her husband, Hiccup, and her mother-in-law as well as lover, Valka. Astrid's personal guards, the Blue Valkyrie's are shield maidens who solely ride blue Deadly Nadders, and adorn armor like their ferocious, yet beautiful queen, symbolizing their position as the queen's guard.

Being mother to the rightful heirs to the throne: Zephyr, Nuffink, and Finnick, Astrid ensures that her children are well trained warriors, tacticians, dragon riders, and negotiators. Astrid, already a fierce woman and warrior, becomes even more so as she considers the well being and safety of her children, not only hers, but all the Heirs of Hiccup.

Astrid, despite never craving power, uses the power she wields as queen like any true ruler would—with care and responsibility, making her the ideal candidate to rule in Hiccup's stead.

Rapunzel, Golden Queen:

Former Princess of Corona, and daughter of Arianna, Corona's former Queen. Having been kidnapped by Gothel who manipulated and kept her locked away so that she could exploit and use her magical hair to maintain her vitality and youthful appearance. But after being killed in Frankia by Hiccup, Gothel could no longer cage Rapunzel and use her for her own selfish gain.

Having freely joining Hiccup and his people during their campaign throughout Europe, Rapunzel becomes infatuated with the King of Vikings, and becomes one of his most favored Fair Queens. Although not a warrior, Rapunzel is strong and competent in her own ways. With the advantage of magical hair that heals the most grievous of wounds, illness, and afflictions, she’s dedicated herself to learning the ways of healing to help those in need. Her compassionate and tender nature will play a vital role in this calling she has answered, and she is eager to apply what she’s learned from the best healers among the Viking people and those who journey from abroad who disclose their trade and knowledge for a price.

Rapunzel, like all the Fair Queens who share Hiccup, are well capable of ruling in the king's place if the need arises. Many have tried to exploit and take advantage of Rapunzel's kindness and good nature in the hopes of manipulating her. However, after a lifetime of being manipulated and used by Gothel, Rapunzel is not as naive as she once was.

Elsa, Winter's Wolf:

Having been acquainted with Hiccup even as a girl, Elsa and her sister Anna, both admired and cared for Hiccup long before he befriended Toothless, slew the Red Death, and becoming the living bridge that made Vikings and dragons come together in coexistence.

Elsa's children: Sif, Elisa, and Erling, the second trio of heirs to the King of Vikings. Despite not being his legitimate heirs, these three match Hiccup's curious nature and love of dragons. They, like the other Heirs of Hiccup, are under rigorous training as warriors, dragon riders, and tacticians; sharpening both their blades and their minds, preparing them all to be competent rulers that can change the Viking world for better or for worse.

Elsa, being both a Fair Queen and a Völva, uses her unique skills to predict the future, help heal her fellow Vikings, and cast spells on those who wrong her lovers and children. She prefers using her mind rather than a sword, but when she must take up arms, she prefers to do battle on the back of her bonded Light Fury—Luna.

Break

Fishlegs had been obsessed with dragon knowledge ever since he was a boy, everyone knew that. Ever since he was a boy, Fishlegs was determined to use his keen intellect to serve not only his closest friend and king, Hiccup, but also to serve his fellow Scandinavians by arming them with knowledge and how to deal with dragons without unnecessary loss of life.

In the months following the destruction of the Northern Alliance and those who would seek to destroy the Scandinavian peoples for the sake of revenge, religion, and even gaining power, Fishlegs had reformed the Loyal Order of Ingerman and dedicated himself to ensuring that his family bloodline would pursue knowledge, peace, and education to the common folk of the Scandinavian people. Fishlegs, having learned of his Dragon Hunter ancestry, towards the climax of the war between Johann and Krogan, was hellbent on cleansing that stain in his family's legacy and forging a new one. With the help of Hiccup as well as Headmaster Heyral, Fishlegs was able to establish his new collective by gathering those among the Scandinavian people who preferred using their minds rather than swords to make a difference.

And in just a short amount of time, many in the kingdom were aware of most dragon species, even those they hadn't seen or heard of. Those attending the Loyal Order of Ingerman helped their folk and loved ones to understand how best to deal with dragons and to approach them with respect rather than aggression. This was specifically towards those in Hiccup's kingdom who had never encountered dragons or even seen them.

Fishlegs, who at the moment was in his home, was preparing a lesson for the following day. His students would be Sami children, and to put them at greater ease, Eret would be assisting Fishlegs in this lesson, since the man knew dragons better than most among his people.

"Still going over your lesson huh, big stuff?"

Having not even heard the door to his home open, Fishlegs looked over his shoulder to see his wife, Ruffnut, holding their son, Harefoot in one arm while in her other hand was a basket full of food. Meatlug as well as Barf and Belch peeked their heads through the door, but Tuffnut, who was outside with baskets full of fish urged the dragons to eat up.

"Hey, bro-in-law." Tuffnut waved to Fishlegs. "Still nose deep in your lessons for the little ones, huh?"

"Goodnight, Tuffnut!"

Ruffnut said as she closed the door behind her.

"These lessons are important, dear," Fishlegs said as he stood up to take the basket of food from Ruffnut's outstretched hand. "Most of the Sami and other indigenous peoples in Scandinavia have never even seen dragons despite them joining us in our exodus from our homelands, England, Paris, establishing our settlement in the Kingdom of Corona, and then back here." Setting the basket down on the very cluttered table, which was littered with books, tomes, parchments, and dragon cards, Fishlegs then took Harefoot, who cooed and babbled happily. "I'll be teaching the Northuldra people next."

Shrugging off her fur cloak and all but collapsing onto the settee that was covered in thick bear furs and pillows, Ruffnut sighed in contentment as she allowed herself to relax before asking out loud. "Mmmm. So you'll have Yelena and those two Nattura siblings to help out?"

"That's right."

Fishlegs affirmed as he rumaged through the basket and helped himself to one of the roasted chicken legs. "Have you already eaten?" He asked, and when Ruffnut voiced words of affirmation, Fishlegs took a bite of the chicken leg and sighed in contentment. "Odin's beard, that's good."

As Fishlegs ate while also going over his lesson and cradling his son in one arm, he then spoke over his shoulder. "How was your day?"

"Ughh, busy," Ruffnut groaned as she continued. "I had to help Astrid train new, aspiring shield maidens. When Astrid is in charge of training, you can expect your arse to get kicked."

Giggling, Fishlegs nodded. "And this comes to you as a surprise?" He jabbed playfully. "We've known Astrid our whole lives, and she's always been intense."

"Yeah, but I would've thought that motherhood would make her... I don't know, softer."

"In your dreams, maybe, my dear," Fishlegs snickered. "If anything, motherhood has made Astrid fiercer than ever."

This was not old news. With Hiccup having heirs from multiple women, as well as with Astrid, the Queen of Vikings, having dedicated herself to harsher training to ensure her children and the Heirs of Hiccup would be safe from all threats, whether they be foreign or among their ranks.

"Ughh, don't remind me," Ruffnut said as she stretched out her stiff body. "Gods, I'm gonna draw a bath and sulk in it."

Swallowing another bite of chicken, Fishlegs gave his wife a teasing smirk. "Come on, it couldn't have been that bad. Right?"

"It's Astrid, Fishlegs. What do you think?"

"Fair enough."

Standing up, Ruffnut snagged another one of the chicken legs from the basket and nudged her husband, forcing him to look her in the eyes. "I was hoping I wouldn't be bathing alone," she then gave him a coy smile. "Care to join me?" She asked hopefully before taking a bite of chicken.

Taken aback by Ruffnut's words, Fishlegs nearly choked on the chicken he had just taken a bite out of and began to cough. Ruffnut's laughter filled the air as she watched Fishlegs attempting to compose himself. "Our son is right here—"

"Please. He doesn't know what we're talking about; he's still a baby after all."

Placing the half-eaten chicken leg on the table, Fishlegs looked at Harefoot, who was now asleep thanks to his cradling. "He's asleep," he said, looking at a grinning Ruffnut. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to take a break."

"Now that's the spirit." Ruffnut approved before pecking him on the lips. "Take him to his bed while I draw the bath, will you?" She said, gesturing to Harefoot with a nod of her head.

"Of course, dear."

Despite his obsession with knowledge, teaching, and dragons, Fishlegs knew it was unwise as a husband to deny his wife's pleasure, whether it be carnal or otherwise. After putting their son in his crib, which was carved out like a Gronckle with its maw open, Fishlegs joined Ruffnut in their very large tub, which was filled with warm water and suds. Stripping themselves of their clothes, the couple got into the tub, with Fishlegs sitting down first and Ruffnut sitting in his lap, her back flushed against his chest. Enjoying the simple intimacy of holding his wife without the boundaries of clothes, Fishlegs took the bar of soap and began to wash Ruffnut.

"Okay, I admit, this is nice."

Humming happily, Ruffnut nodded. "This is very nice," she corrected before cupping a handful of water to wash her face. "I wouldn't worry too much about your lesson, you know," she added with a smile. "You're great with kids and you're a fantastic teacher."

"Yeah?"

"Of course," reaching around to grab the back of his head, Ruffnut then snickered. "And to think you dreaded our "marriage" back on Dragon's Edge."

Laughing, Fishlegs nodded. "Well I don't dread it now," he wrapped his big arms around her. "I love you, Ruff."

"Heh, love you too, Fish."

Another thing I’m excited for when Maul: Shadow Lord drops is the return of Nightbrother warriors into the fray. The last time we saw these guys in animation was during the Clone Wars season 3 arc where Asajj Ventress is betrayed and she takes Savage Opress as her tool of revenge against Count Dooku.

What do these guys and Maul have in common? They’re the same race and hail from Dathomir, those are no brainers. However, they were part of Maul’s Shadow Collective as a fighting force, courtesy of Mother Talzin. They played a key role to help Maul capture not only General Grievous but also Count Dooku during the Shadow Collective's fight with the Separatists on Ord Mantell, this feat was something not even the Republic and the Jedi could pull off, and yet Maul, with Mother Talzin's guidance and with the aid of his fellow Nightbrothers, captured the top dogs of the Separatists.

However, during the final part of the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comics, when Darth Sidious himself again pulls up to Dathomir, alongside General Grievous and a fleet of battle droids, the Nightbrother village where Maul had taken the captive Count Dooku to become a sacrifice for Mother Talzin was massacred just like the Nightsisters, leaving many dead or some to flee into the galaxy.

We clearly see two red-skinned Nightbrothers in the leak trailer for Maul: Shadow Lord, and I CANNOT wait to see if Maul himself builds some kind of kinship with them or if they will be nothing more than just foot soldiers to help him assert his dominance over the galactic underworld once more. I would after Savage and another Talzin's deaths, Maul would form some manner of kinship or companionship with those still loyal to him, particularly Rook Kast, who will return in this show, and has been Maul's ride or die since she was introduced in Son of Dathomir.

Regardless, I can't wait to see these guys in action again. I know they appeared in Jedi: Fallen Order and are in deep hiding, but to see some of them with Maul's fractured group makes sense, since the Nightbrothers were part of the Shadow Collective and fought for the leader of the Nightsisters son. I hope these new Nightbrother characters will be getting get some character development and see their motives for sticking with Maul, whether they were survivors from the last massacre conducted by the droid army or otherwise, I guess we'll see soon enough!

If you recall originally, Crimson Dawn wasn’t always the opulent, flashy crime syndicate we see in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It was originally a band of ruthless mercenaries, bounty hunters, and privateers who traveled from planet to planet, seizing the resources they coveted or needed while brutalizing the natives into complying.

What I'm thinking is whether or not this new location that Maul: Shadow Lord will take place will contain a rare yet powerful resource that makes that planet stand out from others. If that's the case, and if such a resource is available for Maul and his group to obtain, it will not only jumpstart his criminal empire, but most likely draw the Empire as well. According to the official Star Wars website, this show's debut or possibly even the first season is on a planet untouched by the Empire. However, if you saw the leaked trailer footage, Maul's new Twi'lek apprentice is fighting off a TK trooper, which indicates the Empire will arrive at some point either to occupy the planet or to hunt Maul.

Also, the leaked trailer footage monologue from Maul said that "There are many who have prospered from my misfortune. But in time, they will all pay." Obviously, being the creature of habit that he is, Maul wants revenge against his former master, Obi-Wan, and possibly former allies who abandoned his Shadow Collective during the Clone Wars.

There's honestly so much to look forward to and I'm SO glad it's a series, because they have a lot to cover on Maul's story and finally give this amazing character the closure he deserves. 2026 needs to get here quicker!

After rewatching Shades of Reason from season 5 of the Clone Wars, I’m starting form my own headcannon that this lone Nite Owl among the other Mandalorians who pledged allegiance to Maul is none other than Rook Kast.

It makes sense to me, I don’t know about you. Since Rook Kast becomes one of Maul's top lieutenants, I strongly believe it's because she was one of the first Mandalorians to embrace Maul as leader of both Mandalore and Death Watch, which is ultimately torn asunder when Bo-Katan and her followers rejected Maul as their leader. Rook Kast, however, does and continues to be a strong believer and follower of Maul, despite his countless defeats throughout the Clone Wars and beyond.

And another headcanon I have is the reason why we don't see any of Maul's female Super Commandos in episode 16. The Lawless, is because they're all reforging their armor and making it the way we see the female Super Commandos during the Siege of Mandalore. Perhaps this reformation of their armor was done in the same facility on Concordia where there was a Death Watch facility on Mandalore's moon that mass produced armor and other resources.

And with Maul: Shadow Lord on the horizon, I really hope they flesh out Rook Kast's character. We already know that she's fanatically loyal to Maul as we've seen in the Son of Dathomir comic and Siege of Mandalore, but it looks like this upcoming animated series will emphasize on that even more. Which is fine with me, because I like that Maul has that kind of loyalty, especially after losing both Savage and Mother Talzin, those he can truly trust are dead and gone.

Again, despite being his ride or die, I want more character development from Rook as well as having some questions answered, hopefully. Why is her loyalty to Maul so cemented and almost borderline fanatical? Why does she continue to follow him despite leaving Gar Saxon and many more of faithful Mandalorians for dead during the Siege of Mandalore? And does she become a character we see later on in Star Wars, yet whose identity has been concealed to protect herself?

I guess time will tell.

Chapter 2: Operation Knightfall

Darth Sidious, now unmasked as the orchestrator of this grand plan, felt the thrill of impending victory coursing through his veins like blood. The Grand Hall of the Jedi Temple stood before him, its illustrious history ripe for the taking. He envisioned the faces of the Jedi: warriors of the light, unaware of their final moments. Each student brought within these walls, every lesson taught, and the very history of the Jedi Order itself would soon be nothing but a distant memory, for they would soon be met with the cold indifference of the very soldiers they had been leading during this war.

"Today marks the beginning of a new era," Sidious intoned, his voice unholy, and chilling. "With the Jedi's demise, we shall cultivate a galaxy where peace and order reign supreme. But in order to obtain such a future, the Jedi Order must die."

As the boots of the 501st echoed against the steps and grounds of the Jedi Order, their devotion and loyalty to their Jedi general and companions had been warped and twisted, thanks to the controlling influence of the inhibitor chips that had possessed them like a demon taking possession of a helpless victim; their loyalty to the Jedi had now been transformed into blind obedience to serve the Sith enact their revenge. These clones, who had become individuals with personalities and characters, had been erased by the ruthless programming of their inhibitor chips as they matched with a singular purpose—the eradication of the Jedi.

No quarter was to be given, and no mercy was to be shown.

Conviction

Summary: With the galaxy now plunged into darkness, Maul retreats to his home planet of Dathomir to catch his breath and begin rebuilding his criminal empire from the shadows.

Shortly after escaping Ahsoka Tano, Commander Rex, and the rest of the clones on the crashing Venator, during Order 66, Maul's stolen Republic Attack Shuttle exited hyperspace as it approached the crimson planet of Dathomir.

The former Sith Lord straightened in his seat as he steered the commandeered ship to the planet, until he soon found himself back in the now-abandoned Nightbrother village, which had been ravaged by the now decommissioned Separatist droid army. Landing the ship outside one of the monasteries, the roar of the engines caused thick clouds of dirt to swirl around the ship as it set down on the ground. Descending the ramp of his stolen ship, Maul took a moment to breathe in the air of his home planet and could still smell the stench of death, decay, and defeat.

It was a scent that sickened him to his stomach.

Not long ago, this was the sight of his greatest defeat at the hands of his old master, when he was forced to flee, after his mother sacrificed herself so that he might survive. Recalling that day made Maul's blood boil, and his hands clenched into tight fists as he watched General Grievous drive two Jedi blades into his mother's chest, his maniacal laughter echoing in his mind as that mechanical monstrosity robbed him of his last true ally in the galaxy. And just like how he lost his brother, Savage on Mandalore, Maul was powerless to save the only two people in the galaxy he truly cared for.

Maul fell to his knees as he sank his head in defeat. His last hope of exacting revenge against his former master by orchestrating the Siege of Mandalore had failed. The Jedi he had sought, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young foal, Anakin Skywalker, the so-called Chosen One of the Jedi, were who Maul wanted to lure to Mandalore so that he could not only exact revenge against the Jedi who cut him in half and robbed him of the destiny he had been promised as a child, but also against his former master, Sidious, but killing the one he had been grooming to become his next expendable apprentice.

Had his plan succeeded, he would've killed two birds with one stone.

But, of course, that never happened. Instead, they sent a child to deal with him, and with his plan in tatters and his Mandalorian Super Commandos all dead or imprisoned by the new regime, Maul was now alone in the galaxy.

He had lost everything.

The Sith Lord who had taken him from his mother, trained him like a savage animal, filled him full of hatred and rage, only to dispose of him when he had found a replacement in the form of the late Count Dooku, caused Maul to snarl. The Dark Lord who had undermined each of his victories over Death Watch, Mandalore, and the Shadow Collective...

...the Sith Lord who killed his brother, mother, his entire clan, and laid waste to his criminal empire, now happily rested upon the throne as emperor of the galaxy. That Sith was responsible for much of Maul's misfortune.

His place in the galaxy was now uncertain. However, Maul refused to admit defeat; he would exact his revenge against Sidious and Kenobi (if the Jedi still lived). With renewed strength, Maul rose to his feet and before he departing the momentary that held the echoes of his last encounter with his former master and where he witnessed his mother being slain, Maul recalled what he said on Mandalore when he had interrogated the clone trooper—Jesse.

"I can thrive in the chaos that is to come," he muttered to himself. Nodding to himself, Maul then assured himself further. "And thrive I shall." He would find and reunite with old, yet loyal allies from his shattered Shadow Collective and transform them into a new crime syndicate. A hidden empire, one that would one day rise to challenge Darth Sidious and the disgraced former Jedi, Skywalker.

Maul would see to it that all of his enemies would pay.

But if he were to live to see his vengeance exacted, there was much work that needed to be done. Swiftly turning on his cybernetic heels, Maul made his way back to the Republic Attack Shuttle and flew off to the darkened Nightsister stronghold. If he were to find his old allies, he would need the use of the Nightsisters' magicks. Fortunately for him, his mother had a vast trove of tomes and texts on how to perform foresight, which would allow him to pierce the veil of reality and find where his loyal allies were.

Maul knew that the journey ahead of him would be long and fraught with peril. Yet he swore that he would not die until he would exact his revenge, and perhaps gain some measure of peace in the effort.

Been getting a lot of requests to write some Astrid x Eret content. And I’m trying to figure out how I can make the pairing work realistically, because I consider myself a realistic person.
