Release Date 17/11/23
TODAY!!!
I am so very happy to finally share with you a new album that my soul sister Graciela María and myself created over the last year and a half. Today we set it free into the potential ears of others through all the main digital streaming portals, you know the ones (Spotify, Apple, Itunes etc). CLICK HERE 10 of our favourite Elliott Smith songs re-imagined and 2 original compositions (one from each of us) Btw If you are unfamiliar with Elliott Smith's music then i thoroughly recommend you check it out. There are no bad songs from him in my opinion. Posted by candlelight from my apartment in Berlin this morning. It is a particularly cold and dark November morning so the candles are out :) Love it, couldn't be a more perfect setting to release this baby into the world. Thank yous 🙏 DEAR Lars Kirchbach for the mastering sparkle, DEAR @polponsarnau_film for the artwork and forthcoming videos :D, DEAR @pablo_castagnola and @lucrecia_althabe for the amazing photos and support, DEAR Graciela for your friendship, trust, amazing vocal deliveries and beautiful energy throughout the process of making this together, it's been a joy, We made it happen 😃 and finally of course DEAR Elliott for inspiring this whole marvelous journey... 🖤✨🤍🎶🚀🎉 #elliottsmith #sneakyplaysbass #gracielamaria #dearelliott #singersongwriter #voice #doublebass #cello #space #outsiderart

¡OuT nOw! 'We Will Find Ourselves Again' an EP from my soul sister Graciela Maria. A collection of tracks we made together a while ago.... Here's some words from Graciela on the creative process of this music. This EP is made up of three unpublished songs that I wrote during a very specific period of my time in Berlin. During those years I was going through difficult situations in my personal and creative life. Today I can say that these events have been great teachers and the beginning of an internal journey and personal growth. These songs came from a place of hope and solace, but somehow they could not find their place on any of the albums I've released since then.During this time, deep and lasting friendships also grew, which, like music, have been my support and vital energy. These songs were mainly made with them, with my friend Simon Houghton, who composed the instrumentation for Sonnenallee and Growing in the Dark, and with Pablo Castagnola and Gianpaolo Camplese who accompanied me with their sound on guitar and drums on the song We Will Find Ourselves Again, with the double bass of Simon Houghton. After years of inner work, chronic pain, listening to that pain, and being thankful for what I learn from it, I want to release these three songs as a way to honor the paths we create. Also because during this process I remembered the child I once was. And the exact moment when I discovered that singing was my refuge and that with it I could move other people.I would like these songs to be a reminder that what we were is in essence what we are today, and that this internal flame that arises from purity in each one of us, full of truth and creative force, will always be alive. Listen to it and let me know what you feel.Full EP on Bandcamp - https://gracielamaria.bandcamp.com/album/we-will-find-ourselves-again @gracielamariamusic @simon.houghton_aka_sneaky @pablo_castagnola @nereto_woodwork

“Once you label me you negate me” Kierkegaard Music that is difficult to label no doubt excites the curious mind, and the music of Moondog could well be labelled as such… we can but scratch the surface. So scratch we shall. Often referred to as the Viking of the Sixth due to his style and location in NYC as a street musician in the 50s and 60s Louis Thomas Hardin aka Moondog made his own percussion instruments. He conjured music that mixed elements of modern classical with jazz and folk always inbuing a certain childlike innocence and simplicity. »Bird's Lament« his tribute to Charlie “Bird” Parker and possibly his most known work has seen several versions and interpretations since it’s release on his self titled fifth studio album in 1969. Notably for me in the mid nineties I had his work thrust before me when I was asked by fellow Mancunian Andy Carthy aka Mr Scruff to add some bass to a track based around the sampling of said track. »Get a move on« helped spread the Moondog spirit to the club dancefloors and beyond. Since then I have been hooked by his music, an appreciation that continues to grow with every deeper dig and recontextualised listen. Over the last few years I have fallen back in love with my old cello which for a long time took second place in my heart to my bass. In these turbulent times of uncertainty I have taken to the streets of Berlin with my cello (which I named Vida) unconsciously channeling the spirit of Moondog’s New York street musician lifestyle in search of my own voice. Having learnt from a Berlin luthier that my cello is over 130 yrs old and German in origin I started to imagine her coming into contact with Moondog at some point in his life, unlikely but possible! An idea that ignites a fire of inspiration in me. Connections are always there if we look hard enough in the right places right? After playing the Bird’s Lament melodies over and over on my cello for many years I started jamming it together with my talented berlin flatmate Ric Strakow aka DJ Robert Smith. He brought a killer beat idea to the table and we started incorporating it into a set we were developing… locking into the funky swung rhythmic phrasing patterns it blossomed so we decided to record and produce it together with the help of Smith’s Slick Walk production partner Stefan ‘Merse’ Ulrich (Jazzanova). So, here is the next stage in Moondog’s evolution as an influencer. Slowed and skewed for the head nod b-boys and b-girls made with love for the man and his art. Sometimes you need a blind gentle giant to show you the way… “Voices of Spring were in chorus. Each voice was singing a song. I could not sing in that chorus until I wrote me a song. I wrote me a song and joined the throng.” Louis Thomas Hardin

A project called NIDO NIDO that i started several years back together with my brother Jez (French Horn) and Gianpaolo Camplese (drums) never saw the light of day.. reasons geographical.. Gianpaolo moved to Japan and my brother is UK based so it was hard to move forwards with it. We did however make some dope recordings and when the nice people at Oltrarno Recordings asked me for a track to submit for their label compilation i decided to dust them off and choose one of them. The one i picked is an interpretation of an Ahmad Jamal tune called Swahililand famously sampled by De La Soul on Stakes is High. I am happy that something of this beautiful project will meet some ears.
Here you can listen and buy the track and compilation
What is the Sun? (Vol 1) by Nido Nido
What is the Sun? vol. 1 is released today 6th October
Vol. 2 is released on 13.10.21

So... This happened last Friday.. April 2nd. "The Legendary Birthday Ball" 25th Anniversary organized by the hardest working man on the Berlin hiphop scene Marc Hype. It was really quite something special, and no easy feat to put together under the conditions i can tell you! Performances were streamed from Berlin, London, Paris, Toronto, Macedonia and Japan! via the birthday headquarters setup at Berlin’s Cassiopeia club.. Fantastic lineup of international djs that stepped up and smashed it, simply for the love of sharing and celebrating this awesome dj community. It really was a joy to witness. Click  HERE to watch the full live set that i did together with Dj Robert Smith.

NEW VIDEO!!! Check out the new FULL concert video from last week’s live stream i was invited to be a part of. Now uploaded to my youtube channel. I have to say that it was a breath of fresh air to be a part of this happening. I have been skeptical about the live stream format since it became a thing. Always seemed like a poor quality replacement for the real live experience which of course it cannot compare.... and so i never really saw the point in it... However, when a group of friends "thirsty for action" put their love into something who knows what can happen right? The lack of any stage activities for such a long time and the pressure of putting together a 30min set to be potentially seen by all the world gave those pre gig energy jitters i had all but forgotten about. It was a very welcome outpouring of energy from my side. Massive thank yous to all the other artists who individually brought something special to the table and the marvelous rule abiding little crew who rocked the sound, lighting and difficult logistics.
