This post won’t be filled with my normal whimsy because this is something I take very seriously. No one has called me out specifically for this, but I’ve just been educated on this thanks to my adoring wife and I owe you all an apology.

Having integrity and sensitivity as an artist, no matter the medium is SUPER important, and because of that, I’m here to swear that any art work of Richtofen I have done that includes any N*zi symbolism was done because I wasn’t educated on the matter. History was never my strong suit, I dropped it for another subject in school. I saw Treyarch removed the sh**stika in bo3 and assumed that the symbols they replaced them with were made up or had a different meaning. I now know that, that isn’t the case.

Because of this, I have taken down my art work on this blog and my main blog that had any N*zi insignia. Granted, it wasn’t that many, I’m known more for my character analysis, but this is the right thing to do and I can only hope that this tiny little blog is leading by example.

Whenever I draw Ultimis Richtofen, I draw him with a tear on his sleeve where his armband goes to make a point, because it’s not that difficult to just NOT fucking draw it. Replacing the insignia doesn’t matter, the armband itself is harmful. I also stayed away from drawing the iron cross on his uniform, and from now, I’m leaving all of the insignia design elements blank. The design on his shoulders seems simply decorative, but if that is problematic too, please tell me and I will stop drawing those too.

Art is important. Our art will out live us, just as the most famed masterpieces from history outlived their artists. Use. Your art. For good.

To the ones in the Richtofen tag who have drawn N*zi insignia and display it proudly, the ones who haven’t tried to change any aspects in good faith- You are sickening. Get a fucking grip and fix your artistic priorities. Those insignia alone represent so much generational trauma for so many groups.

Be. Better.

If change isn’t enacted soon, I will be calling people out.

The Portrait of Pope Innocent XIV and Cardinal Lawrence (2025)

An homage to Jacques-Louis David's 1808 portrait of Pope Pius VII and Cardinal Caprara during Napoleon's coronation that depicted the Pope's stressful moment as he was forced by Napoleon to travel to Paris.

In this piece I envision that Pope Innocent XIV’s papacy faces some resistance from the traditionalist faction and the weight of it is evident on both their faces.

He wears the Roman chasuble (I used elements of the design by Lisy Christl) and Lawrence wears his pectoral cross (by Riccardo Penko) pinned to his cassock in order to appease the opposition by superficially adopting traditional aesthetics while he implements Church reforms, inspired by the real life reception of Pope Leo XIV by online Trads despite very clearly continuing Pope Francis’s legacy. 

Vincent was also “forced” into the papal throne when he was elected Pope, leaving behind his flock in Kabul, adding to his melancholy.

This will be in my Comic Frontier 21 prints catalog, and is the first in a series of art history inspired Conclave fan art that I have planned for a future personal zine project. International sales and shipping for my other prints are still in the works, but I'll post an update once all is set!

I’ve been ill thinking about a fic that explored a Caesar/Arcade/Vulpes dynamic and I just. I need to speak about it. Consider the following;

The Legion perpetuating a Roman custom of kissing being shared among friends, family, and equals. (I’m not sure if this is something that is historically accurate, I’m not sure. But just. Consider)

Caesar treating Arcade as an intellectual equal, seeing him as a companion, and therefore sharing kisses—openly. While it seems casual to Arcade (I mean, he can recall a number of people he’d been on strictly transactional terms with that he also openly kissed) it’s a shock to the Praetorians (and his lovely frumentarius Vulpes) to see their Emperor kissing someone who is in their ranks as a slave.

Meaning;; Vulpes, and Caesar’s Praetorians, sharing kisses as greeting and praise and affection (whatever Caesar would see fit).

So I also consider. Vulpes and Arcade getting tangled up in some sort of relationship, nothing with a label, but some way they can find comfort in each other? If Arcade were granted free time, or rather, free time but never alone time; hence spending enough time with Vulpes to fall into a “relationship”. Becoming confidants, fooling around—but Vulpes still denying kisses.

And, iunno, I just think the build up of them growing more comfortable with one another—and for Vulpes to slowly begin to see Arcade as an equal. Like, ugh.
