This is so deep and tells exactly why Nami is my favorite character. I love how she has other strengths that rely on her being cunning, smart, and aware. She is created not to be physically strong and it is something that Luffy needs in a totally different way. He knows he needs her, because he can not make his dream come true without that type of thing. And her compassion and character development is something I can also connect with.

In Appreciation of Nami...

Nami is an awesome character. 

I had to get that out of the way first, because when I see people rank their favorite Straw Hats, Nami is rarely on the top of the list. You don’t see a ton of fanfiction surrounding her that isn’t shipping, or fanart that isn’t sexualized in some way (although to be fair, Oda himself is partly to blame). 

I don’t see many people who hate Nami, but there aren’t many singing her praises either. So let’s fix that, and dig in a little into what makes the infamous Cat Bugler tick.

“I don’t know what to do anymore, steph. I don’t understand this at all.” You pout, sighing as you lean back in your chair.

You’d been studying for hours now, which is the last thing you wanted to do on a Saturday, and the only thing you’ve managed to do is waste time and get maybe one or two questions/paragraphs done on a number of assignments. You had yet to actually complete anything.

Stephanie looks at you frowning, more than just a little bit annoyed with you.

“Maybe it’d help if you didn’t drift off thinking about your little crush every five minutes.”

“Who?” You ask, having not been paying attention.

“You’re seriously going to play dumb right now? We both know who you’re constantly thinking about.”

“I honestly don’t.”

“Oh come on, y/n. You so totally have a crush on the twins!”

“I do not. Why would you even think that?” You scoff. You, Stephanie, Katie, Lee, and the twins have been friends since first year and you had never once mentioned having a crush on either of them. Sure you might’ve been quiet and distracted around them sometimes, but you get stressed about school so easily. You spend most of the time worrying about grades and whether you know the material. The next couple weeks are more than awkward between the three of you and everyone is starting to pick up on it, but none of them dare ask anything in fear it’ll make whatever is going on worse.

Truthfully, the twins were still acting like themselves around everyone - they were laughing and joking and just as vibrant as they had been before - but it was how silent you had become that created the tension amongst everyone. It was like you to be quieter than the rest of your group of friends, but you had never been as disconnected from the group as you have been lately.

When Fred and George decided to drop out of school, it became nearly impossible to see them since you couldn’t easily leave the castle. You sent letters back and forth nearly every day, and you had managed to sneak out once or twice, but it wasn’t the same as what you were used to with them.

In one of their last letters they sent you they said that they’d meet you at the burrow before their brother’s wedding.

That was still about two weeks ago though and you were more than excited to see them. You missed the two idiots more than anything, except you couldn’t say anything about them visiting to anyone else as they wanted it to be a surprise.

Because I need to remember

Adrien Salt Prompt:

This time, when someone gets a video of an Akuma battle on one of Ladybug and Chat Noir’s ‘bad days’, it’s not just a quick, two-second clip. It’s the whole thing. The whole fight, from start to finish.

Every minute, every second, 

every word.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why the heroes of Paris are having difficulty.

Ladybug is the only one fighting the Akuma.

And Chat Noir is…

“No, that can’t be right,” people will say, later as they watch the video, concerned, “He must have been hurt! She was protecting him!”

Because Chat Noir is sitting on the ground. He’s sitting on the ground, criss-cross-applesauce, propping his chin up with his hands, his elbows on his knees. 

He’s sitting on the ground, watching Ladybug fight the Akuma. And–

“But…” People will say later, as they watch the video, confused, “But that Akuma didn’t have any mind control powers.”

Because Chat Noir is smiling.

And then Ladybug fends off another attack, and– ”Look!” people will say, later, as they watch the video, awed, “She doesn’t miss a beat! How does she move that fast? She’s so cool!”

Because Ladybug is between the Akuma and Chat Noir, and she’s shielding not only herself, but him as well. She’s dodging or blocking any and all of the Akuma’s attacks, never stepping a foot wrong, never letting her guard down for a second, never letting a stray hit come anywhere near Chat Noir.

And then, and it’s here that views will fall silent–

Ladybug calls over her shoulder, “Chat Noir, I could really use–” She blocks an attack with her yoyo, “–a little help here!”

And—

“What?” People will say later, as they watch the video, dumbfounded, “What–”

Because Chat Noir responds, not moving an inch from where he’s seated, “I think you’ve got it covered, m’lady.” There’s a smile on his face, but his voice is mean, meaner than anyone has ever heard it. He’s never even spoken to an Akuma like this before “After all, since you wouldn’t go out with me last night, I’m sure you got plenty of rest. You can handle this by yourself, you didn’t spend hours setting up a romantic evening like I did, which–oh wait, you wouldn’t know about that, would you? That’s right, because you didn’t show up!”

“I told you I wasn’t going!” Ladybug cries, as she dodges away from an attack, and–

“Is she…is she crying?” people will say later, as they watch the video, horrified.

Because yes, yes Ladybug is crying. She’s crying as she’s fighting, as she’s–what is she doing? Defending herself from Chat Noir?

“I told you I wasn’t going to go! I told you I didn’t want to go with you! I told you I just want to be friends! I told you I just–” she blocks an attack, and this time everyone watching can see the way she staggers, the way she’s losing focus, the way she just barely managed to not get hit. “I just want to be friends! Please, Chat Noir, I need your help!” She stumbles on the next hit, and gasps in pain as the attack grazes her arm.

And Chat Noir?

No one can believe what they’re seeing.

Because Chat Noir? He just stays where he is, now leaning back on his arms, casual as can be. Like there isn’t an Akuma rampaging right in front of him. Like Ladybug isn’t fighting for her life and now injured. Like none of it matters. Like he doesn’t care.

“Please, Chat Noir, I can’t do this on my own!” Ladybug is still crying, tears streaming down her mask, clearly in pain, clearly starting to feel toll the fight is taking on her.

She’s not meant to be fighting on her own.

And Chat Noir, he just smiles, and–”No,” someone will say later, staring at the video, “That’s not a smile that’s–that’s a snarl.”

And tells Ladybug she needs to apologize.

And then sometimes you just get filled with guilty, because you think that you should do better, you think that it's wrong to get time to just do the things you like. And poeple don't realize that also monetizing something you love to do just because of it, can sometimes get to much and you start to hate it.

But is not wrong and they shouldn't hold it over our heads because we get to truly enjoy something without expecting anything in return and they don't.

It's not living for work. It's just living. We are doing that and enjoying it. Get over it.

A/N: Hey everyone, coming at you with another series! This is actually for a late secret santa gift exchange! My recipient was @m3owww​! Her fandoms were Maribat and Avatar the Last Airbender, so I thought: Why not both? She already had a Maribat characters in the show type fic, so I created a fic where they watched the show. It slowly spiraled out of control though, so this is Chapter 1. I’ll eventually have the batfam (and Marinette) react to the whole series, so comment here and on ao3 what you want to see. So Phi, this is kinda like the gift that will keep on giving? Maybe? I hope you like it anyway. Enjoy! 

Our story begins on a frosty winter evening, outside Gotham at Wayne Manor. Marinette sat in the library working on an assignment for her History of Fashion class. She was alone, because Damian, Dick, Tim, and Bruce were out on patrol, with Barbara on comms. Tikki, unless eating or involved with a transformation, spent her time sleeping due to the freezing weather. While the other Kwami either resided in the box or roamed the grounds, and generally stayed out of the human’s way.

Marinette gazed out the window, snow falling softly through the air, covering the ground and the tree branches. A crackling fire warmed the room. She shifted, and a painful ache shot through her leg. Marinette glared at the offending appendage, which was the reason she wasn’t out with the team tonight.
