29 years young today! This past year has felt so fast, but so much has happened since last year. I've learned SO MUCH. 😳 I've been lucky to be able to have experienced what I've done so far and I'm so excited for what's to come for the rest of year. It's been one of the most positive years of my life. Our education books that I had to learn from were from @pivotpointintl #PivotPoint 💫Fast toward to today, I've had to opportunity to work alongside @anthonythebarber916 as we helped consult a barbering program for the future of our industry. Its crazy to be able to sit down with the people who created the books that I was studying back then. They really took their time to really sit to LISTEN to us and figure out ways that would enhance the new generation of barbers. It's important to talk about things that are more beneficial for the longevity of our career options and to open topics of awareness that will guide & prep them for success. Obstacles are put in your way to see if what you want is really worth fighting for 👊🏼 The journey isn't as joyful as IG makes it seem. The long days, hours of studying, the X amount of haircuts you have to do to understand that style, getting overlooked, tough clients, doubters, no support, long drives, sweating during my appts cuz I was taking so long, my inner voice just battling against my thoughts...the list goes on. I sometimes questioned is this what I even want to do? I've always been more drawn to cutting more than anything else so I just buckled down and stuck to it. It's very true nothing worth having comes easy. It took me at least a year n half to say to myself "ok I think I'm starting to get the hang of it". From there, it was detailing my work and enhancing the overall services. The beginning is always the toughest. Be patient. Don't lose hope. The power to change someone's image in just a haircut. I love that reveal when I hand them a mirror or showing them the picture on my camera. Missing the beach. 😩 Need to get my Cambodian tan back. 😎 - one of the hardest pieces I've done so far was my back. If anyone has gone through it, you know how bad it hurts. This was a milestone moment for me. The truth about tattoos for me is a moment that I've been able to push thru mentally/physically against what my body can even endure. No I don't enjoy the pain. Sometimes it's therapeutic when life gets a little tough and other times it's the urge to fill spots to complete a look that I'm going for. If my body is a temple, I will GLADLY decorate the walls.
