My dad was dealing with some mixed feelings so I told him "In therapy when something is too complicated to do a simple 'pro and contra list' we sometimes do an excercise where you imagine all these mixed feelings around a table in some kind of conference, letting each tell their bit and you leading the debate."

and my dad didn't really respond and just stared ahead so I kept preparing lunch. Until a few minutes later when he suddenly piped up: "I am having a bad time at the conference"

I’m thinking about Logan again, Logan “the worst” Howlett.

A man who’s made the worst mistakes repeatedly, one that craves the company of others but finds himself putting them in danger. Directly or not, his fault or not. Unable to hold things close because the last time he even tried to warm up to the idea everyone died.

Someone who loved so hard but refused to let himself be loved back, who left it all to turn into anger and hatred. Hatred at humans. At himself.

Hating himself- fearing himself and his mistakes, all so painfully loud, unforgettable- unforgivable.

How did he feel when after years first person to reach out to him and say “I need you” completely refused to leave him?

How Logan’s reaction was to display the worst of himself immediately. Look at how useless I am, unwantable, disgusting.

He wanted to be left to rot. He needed to. In his eyes it’s what he deserved. Pressed into the metaphorical corner like an animal begging to be put down but refusing to be dragged to a shelter. Refusing closeness.

He believed that nothing mattered, everything will die and he will be the cause of it. The most insane part of it though?

The first person in years to tell him that they needed him can’t die.
