How to Smell Like: Cinderella
“Her godmother then touched her with her wand, and, at the same instant, her clothes turned into cloth of gold and silver, all beset with jewels. This done, she gave her a pair of glass slippers, the prettiest in the whole world.”

Barbra Streisand, born the daughter of a soprano who failed to follow her dreams of becoming a star, and a high school teacher, first started showing her immense talent at age thirteen. Known on her block as “the girl with the good voice”, it was her biggest dream to be an actress. After years at singing at clubs (she famously entered a competition at The Lion, a gay nightclub in Greenwich village) and acting on Broadway, Streisand’s first film would be an adaption of one of the plays she starred in--”Funny Girl”. It was a success, and thus began the career of this legend.
Barbra’s preferred scent is Vol de Nuit by Guerlain--a fragrance that first debuted in 1933. It is an ethereal and delicate perfume, woodsy and green and very narcissus forward.
Vol de Nuit has top notes of Galbanum, Narcissus, Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Lemon, Orange and Mandarin Orange. Middle notes are Iris, Narcissus, Aldehydes, Vanilla, Violet, Indonesian Carnation, Rose and Jasmine. The base notes are Oak Moss, Orris Root, Sandalwood, Spices and Musk.

Alla Nazimova, born Marem-Ides (or Miriam Edez Adelaida) Leventon in Yalta to Jewish parents, was once the world’s highest paid actress. She was also credited as “The Founding Mother of Sapphic Hollywood” and even coined the term “sewing circles” to refer to secret society of lesbian and bisexual actresses.
Her early life was marred by abuse from her father and fear from fleeing pogroms in her home country. But acting came as her escape, and it was a profitable one.
Nowadays, the pioneering actress is rarely remembered, but one brand still carries a perfume they made especially for her in 1914. Caswell-Massey’s “Marem” has top notes of red current and neroli, middle notes of eucalyptus and Crimean rose, and base notes of amber and cedarwood.
A bold fragrance for a bold woman.

Chaeyoung from Twice is a fan of Aesop’s “Tacit”, which has top notes of Yuzu and other Citrus, middle notes of basil, and base notes of vetiver and clove.
The inspiration behind the fragrance came from two places:
“[...]  The fresh notes found in traditional colognes; and the culture, topography, and fragile, perfumed vegetation of the Mediterranean coast.”
