Why Faith and Science Can Be Compatible
One question I am asked regularly irl is how I can be both a practicing Christian and a physics student. People are often under the impression that faith and science (especially physics and biology, it seems) are somehow incompatible. This has always baffled me personally, since if anything learning more about creation from the perspective of science just makes me appreciate God even more.
However, I do understand where a lot of the confusion comes from. There are certainly some scientists who see themselves as trying to disprove the existence of God, or who personally believe that science will ultimately take the place of God. There are also some Christians who believe that ideas from science (such as the age of the universe) are incompatible with the idea of God as the creator, or with the text of various bible passages (especially the creation story).
While I can understand the points of both sides, I still believe the idea that science and faith are incompatible is fundamentally misguided. To see why, consider this little story:
