1.  BOLE duh!
Tumblr media
As a true born Port Harcourt girl, I am totally in love with Bole so having so many vendors in one place was awesome. I stuffed myself till I could no longer eat.
  2.    THE TURN OUT
Tumblr media
So many people came out for the festival, to be honest I did not expect such a crowd from Port Harcourt so I was really excited to see so many people out there. I guess it’s safe to say Port Harcourt is finally developing a social scene outside the bar.
  3.  CREATIVITY
From the event concept, to the set up, to the artist’s performance, to the vendors to the almighty Bole Burger – the entire event was just a creative affair and I absolutely loved it.
  4.     VIBE and STYLE
Everyone obviously got the memo that it was a fun fair and they came prepared. I actually spotted several people being very artistic with their fashion pieces.
  5.    DAN DIZZZY
Tumblr media
So this fellow is totally creative! I had heard him on the radio before but had no idea he was Port Harcourt based until I saw him at the #RSBloggerandCEOs hang out last month. His freestyle game is A1 and I’m sure Port Harcourt is proud of him.

Saturday 11th November was a ball at the Port Harcourt Bole festival. If there’s one thing Port Harcourt is known for, its Bole and on Saturday we celebrated our city and this unique delicacy.
Tumblr media
Needless to say, if you were not there you missed out on something monumental as the festival was so fun packed and we can’t stop talking about it.
We were definitely not in a hurry to leave as there were  performances from Legendary Suni, Dan Dizzy, Ajebo Hustlers, David Wilson, T’Chella, K.O Baba, MC JP. We raved till nightfall and if we had the chance, we would have gone on till dawn.
I mean it when I say, I cannot wait for the next edition. See you then….

I spent the better of Saturday, 28th October 2017 at an art exhibition at Echelon Heights  of “Ingenium” an art collection by Prince Oteki. Ingenium is Prince Oteki’s second exhibition.

Prince Oteki and I
The exhibition was absolutely brilliant and the art completely took my breath away although I did not like the two paintings titled ‘Strength of a woman’ which i felt was limiting in its portrayal of women. My favorite painting was ‘Am not my hair’ which was just so powerful and intriguing.

Prince Oteki was born in 1980 in Port Harcourt where he still lives and works as a self-taught artist. He has been painting for 25 years and has spent that time gathering knowledge and developing his craft.

36 is a Forum, a collaboration lab, innovation hub and business incubator for Nigerian Technology Entrepreneurs. It is a space where technological ideas impacting the future of Africa will be nurtured. We will aim at engaging youth in the 36 states in Nigeria to Think together, Solve issues in our country and Evolve. The 36 Forum will provide techies and entrepreneurs with a much needed opportunity to network and get their ideas off the ground. The 36 Forum will fulfill a genuine need in Rivers state and beyond.
On Thursday 12th October, 2017 the maiden edition of the 36 Forum held. A couple of weeks before that I had become a part of the movement. I am generally a lover of all things ‘development’ and so when my cousin explained the concept to me, I was so in. The opportunity to be part of the growth of individuals was something I could not resist and I honestly loved every moment of it, except for the fact that I got involved a bit late and could not shake the feeling of not having any real impact. Nevertheless, I put my back into it and I’m happy I did.
The forum was fantastic, I usually hate entrepreneurial summits, youth empowerment summits and all similar summits where they try to ‘motivate’ you to change our life because I always feel like the speakers are just stringing together a bunch of words they read would do the trick without there being any depth to it. Its always the same story with everyone and I’m usually lost in my mind by the end of the first hour but this time was different, and I’m not just saying that because I was a part of it. I actually got to a point of reflection and was indeed motivated.
FIVE THINGS I LEARNT
https://sourirejolie.com/2017/10/27/five-things-i-learnt-from-the-36-forum
I feel like I really connected with one particular speaker, Jennifer Eneanya – she was so effortless in her speaking and her story was pretty much mine. You know how you hear someone speak and you can totally relate, like what they say does not just hit close to home, it actually walks straight through the front door – that was exactly how I felt.
Tumblr media
Needless to say it was information packed; I learnt quite a lot from the inspiring stories of the speakers and I really do hope other participants went home with something as well.

  FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Port Harcourt lacks a focus on collective development and advancement of society; everyone is carried away with unnecessary sentiments and partisan behavior. The average youth is looking for hand me downs and will not participate in activities not money related even when they can help self development. To grow as a community, we must set these aside and look inward for sustainable societal development solutions.

Five things I learnt from The 36 Forum
Five things I learnt from The 36 Forum
Tumblr media
1 The internet never forgets. Pay close attention to what you put up on your social media channels; view your accounts as representation of your brand. Nigeria needs social change if we are to achieve development and we need to drive this social change by our internet activities.   2 Do not be afraid to start small Businesses do not usually start big; most times you start out with something…

The color green the shirt you wore the day you said hello My response was a grin Your smile turned my insides to jello
The color green The wall you slammed my head into Something you said you didn’t mean But I should not have talked back at you
The color green A symbol of growth, fertility All I dropped at your feet Spinning gold from your futility
The color green The color of your face A scowl where a smile should have been Your heart, envy’s place
The color green, not just a color to me But the symbol of my pain
The Color Green The color green the shirt you wore the day you said hello My response was a grin…

My sister recruited me as a photographer and event planner for her friend’s bridal shower, not like that was anything new as we tend to do that a lot – turning ourselves into Pro-Bono event planners. However, when she said it was a Great Gatsby theme I was more skeptical than excited because I was worried about how we would get the needed materials for decorating.
Tumblr media
It’s actually funny how we pulled it off, my sister made us head bands, we rallied every shiny dress we could find, every black and gold living room ornament became a decor prop and voila! we were ready to party like Great Gatsby. It really was a fun night; THERE WAS SMALL CHOPS and COCKTAILS, plus I actually picked up a few tips on marriage.

Five things to know before Marriage
Five things to know before Marriage
Tumblr media
As with all showers, the friends of the bride (especially the married ones) took turns giving her advice based on their experience and these five stuck: DO NOT LOOSE YOURSELF: after marriage, there is a high tendency to relax and just let yourself go because ‘see finish’ sets in…. well, DON’T! remember who you are, the things you liked to do, the way you liked to look, the way you took care of…

I recently made a resolution to attend more events and basically just explore Port Harcourt  in order to make best of this town rather than run away to Abuja or Lagos. So, when I stumbled upon the flyer for the Port Harcourt Fashion Summit organized by Fashon City I made sure I would attend. Well, another reason I made that decision was because Mai Atafo was going to be there.
Mai was a no show and they played some bogus video message from him which had me thinking that there was never a plan for him to show and it was all just a publicity gimmick but hey! what do I know. The turn out was good, I got to meet several Port Harcourt models, designers and retailers at the fashion hang out which held at this really nice roof top bar the night before the summit. My favorite part of the event was how it restored my faith in the fashion scene of Port Harcourt. The event was actually designed for fashion entrepreneurs, and as a fashion enthusiast, I learnt a whole lot:
Five Tips for Fashion Entrepreneurs
https://sourirejolie.com/2017/10/01/five-tips-for-fashion-entrepreneurs/
I did not like the fact that there were no blogger actively involved in the process but then I realize bloggers are yet to make a mark in this town and I really look forward to a time when we finally do.

Five tips on Poetry
Five tips on Poetry
Tumblr media
POETRY IS A PLANT IN THE GARDEN: a plant can grow everywhere but what differentiates the ones growing in the garden from the ones growing on the roof, under water, on walls, etc is that the plant in the garden is carefully tended to. This basically means that poetry is planned. KNOW YOUR FIGURES OF SPEECH: figures of speech are what differentiate poetry from prose. Infusion of figurative…

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NIGERIA!!!
Tumblr media
It was almost Independence day at the time of this shoot, so I thought: ‘Why not wear the flag’.
When other countries celebrate Independence, the entire country wears the colors of the flag, those colors become like gold in stores because everyone wants them but I noticed that hardly happens in Nigeria and I’ve always wondered why.
To be honest, I’ve always been a wear the flag type of girl, I actually have a green and white top I’ve had for years that I only wear on October 1st. Turns out some people think wearing the flag is razz; a friend teased me the last time I wore it, I posted a picture and he said “you too” such a heavily laden phrase.
What do you think about wearing the flag for Independence day? Would you do it? (in a fabulous way of course) Let me know in the comment section

Some of the things I learnt from the Fashion Summit I attended this past week:
KNOW YOUR STUFF; Learn! Learn! Learn! you can never know enough so keep looking for new ways to learn. Do not be afraid to ask questions, remember: “he who asks questions never misses his way“
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS; pay attention to details, details are what separate professionals from amateurs
ALWAYS HAVE FRESH IDEAS; do something new, always go back to the drawing board to come up with new ways to express your brand
CONCEPTUALIZATION; have a clear concept for your brand and build on this to form your brand identity. Do not go into any campaign blindly, every image you put out must identify with the concept of your brand
PHOTOGRAPHY; photography is extremely important for every fashion entrepreneur. You need a good fashion photography plan in order to sell your brand and not just the product. What kind of pictures do you have on your social media page? What do these pictures say about your brand?
