I love birdwatchers they’re like “I just saw my ALL TIME FAVORITE BIRD SPECIES! I’ve always dreamed of seeing one in the wild! I am ECSTATIC!” and it’s the most boring looking little brown bird you’ve ever seen.

love love love how tactile palamedes's expressions of affection are. hugging harrow so wildly he lifts her off the ground. touching his forehead to camilla's. holding gideon's hand after she recounts her traumatic past. kissing harrow's forehead, cam's knuckles, dulcie's hand. he might be the only man ever

Although vertebrates settled on paired, chambered eyes with lenses, invertebrates species can have multiple, non-paired eyes and eyes in remarkable locations. For example, certain butterflies have light detecting organs located such that darkness signals successful copulation [Arikawa et al., 1996].
Well obviously I had to check out this citation, and it's exactly what it sounds like. At least this one species of butterfly has "eyes" on its penis, so that it knows to only ejaculate once it's properly penetrated the female when things go dark. Scientists painted over or destroyed the "eyes" and found that male butterflies had much less success during sex than unmodified ones.

Dogs on rooftops are a common sight in places like Mexico, Guatemala, and Cuba. Often, it’s a practical solution for security and space, giving dogs a high vantage point to protect the home. It’s a unique way these communities keep their pets safe and part of daily life.
