I've been going down memory lane listening to r&b music from my childhood, and, as it were, I had no idea what I was singing about... but boy oh boy those songs are still certified bangers

Something that gets really lost in a lot of discourse is that what we would now call 'going low-contact' or 'going no-contact' with your family used to be so completely within the normal range of familial contact that there wasn't even a term for it. Sure, in the pre-IM pre-social media days some people were calling their parents daily, but I'd wager the vast majority of people were not. Long distance calling used to be quite expensive, after all. If your kid went to the big city to seek their fortune you might hear from them every few weeks, or every month, or once a year, and that wasn't particularly odd. This was even more the case before telephones were common, of course - people would send letters, but definitely not more than once a week and probably a lot less. It was just a normal, accepted fact that you'd hear from some family members who lived nearby often, and some who lived farther away very rarely.
The minimum amount of contact with family that is expected of people in the groupchat-facetime-instagram era is so much higher than at any previous point in history. The ceiling is about the same, since then and now multiple generations often live under the same roof, but the floor is higher by orders of magnitude.
How many adult children who are 'no-contact' or 'low-contact' now would also have been the ones who moved to the city and sent a letter every three months then? Is family estrangement an actual current problem, or is it just an illusion caused by smartphones?
#even though my family just lives across town#I go low contact#for my and my partner's mental health#and when I do contact them we get bombarded with requests for help on random shit my brothers (who live w/them) could've figured out#but I've always been the responsible and reliable child who asked very little#:/#I grew up this way because I couldn't rely on my parents#and they've gotten a little better but it's hard to trust them still#tbd

Do you write the number seven with that line in the middle?
#yes#because idk if people will read it as an 1. I also put a line through my 0s so it's not mistaken for the letter O

7/17/2025 update #2: by some miracle my cousin made his own way home and is safe now with my aunt. Thank you everyone for sharing and boosting these posts.

I try not to share much about my family, but my cousin has been missing and our family has no new leads on where he is or where he may have gone. Please share if you can. I'll update if I get new info.

I hate work meetings except for this one coming up where I get to talk to a high school teacher about my job so they can tell their students about the range of tech & communication careers. ✌️

What‘s your favourite kind of tea or coffee? Do you have a favourite mug you could draw for us?
Thank you for the questions!
I really love teas with a strong rose or cherry aroma, and then for coffee… I really like light or blonde roast coffees. Those I’ll drink with little to no milk/creamer. I haven’t found a brand or coffeehouse that I’m particularly crazy about yet, but I’m sure I’ll pick something once I get the right blend that I can get a consistently good brew from at home.
This is my favorite mug:
A souvenir from a disneyland trip about 10 years ago or so? It’s not in use at the moment because I prefer wider mugs now, but I might go and rotate my daily mugs to include this one again.

Hiiii, ok, I'm not sure how to play this via asks but either
truth: You can have one superpower – and only one. What is it, and why did you pick it?
or dare: doodle Bodhi Rook

Hi! The way you did it is perfect, thank you!
TRUTH. If I could have one superpower, I’d pick, uhm… the ability to understand and communicate with animals because as of right now my puppy is being very very puppy and I don’t know what he needs when he’s crying all night in his soft warm bed. But also, I could talk to birds and neighborhood cats and dogs.
#ask games#sasha answers#thank you for asking!#deciding on a superpower was hard and I almost gave up and did the dare
