Deltarune Roaring Knight Theory

Spoilers for Deltarune chapters 1-4

Apologies for any mistakes in advance I am typing this past midnight after a long day, if you see any mistakes please feel free to tell me so I can fix them

So I recently saw a post claiming that the Knight is more likely to be Dess Holiday than they are to be Carol Holiday due to the fact that the Knight’s form is different from anybody we have ever seen and their form is very malleable and we haven't really seen any other drastic changes in the light world and dark world forms of any other lightners. Now I have lost the post in my rush to type this up but they claimed that whatever unknown event happened to Dess could be the cause of these things, which is entirely possible and perfectly valid, but I have another idea which may mean the Knight could still be just about anyone (that has not been seen in the same room as the Knight, no Kris as the Knight unfortunately) and I personally believe that that person is Asgore.

Now the way that dark worlds work, to my understanding, is that they take the perception that is most strongly connected to an object and give that object life in a form that at least somewhat represents that perception as a darkner. This has a little wiggle room seeing as I have no idea what is going on with shadow crystals which seem to persist between worlds as shadow crystals and clearly outside forces can change a darkner such as the Knight influencing at the bare minimum the King and Queen from chapters 1 and 2 and MAYBE some characters like Spamton, Jevil, and by extension of Jevil Seam if you want to say that the shadow crystals were given to them by the Knight which proves that they aren't just those perceptions given form, but to put it simply objects are changed based on the strongest perception connected to that object. But would that same principle of perception work on a lightner?

The answer to that question is yes, and not only yes, but it can most likely do so to the same degree that it does so to objects/darkners. Susie, Noelle, Berdly, Toriel, Undyne, Gerson, and Kris are the only lightners we can identify in dark worlds with all of them but Kris and Toriel having very minor changes (Presumably considering we haven't actually seen Deltarune Gerson in the light world). Sure all of them have pretty noticeable outfit changes but that's the effect of the dark worlds on their clothing, not their bodies, however it's one of the exceptions to this rule that is strange to me. The only difference to the bodies of the lightners other than Kris and Toriel seems to be the fact that their “skin” (feathers, scales, fur, etc) is a slightly lighter tone, which is so minor that it really might just be a classic “Toby Fox does not own a color picker tool�� moment and the only reason why Toriel is an exception to this is because she is already just white, but Kris being blue has always been weird.

Before we get to why Kris is an exception I’ll explain why everyone else is the way they are. The reason why everyone else is barely changed seems pretty minor and decently obvious, the strongest perception connected to their bodies would be their own right? And unless we’re somehow missing the hidden trans Toriel storyline why would they perceive their real body as anything other than what it is. Sure Susie can want to be a giant city eating creature of destruction, but she does not genuinely perceive her body like that. In addition if this perception was based off of how other people saw them then honestly Susie might actually get to be a giant city eating creature of destruction considering her reputation around town. But Kris does not see themself the way that the others see themselves.

This is supported in the mirror interaction dialogue (“Its what they call “you”” and “you felt like, whatever you were, for just right now, it might be okay”) and in the chapter 4 prophecy (“THE FIRST HERO. THE CAGE, WITH HUMAN SOUL AND PARTS”). The usage of the word “you” in the mirror dialogue is admittedly a little questionable considering the presence of the soul/player, but the prophecy is undoubtedly talking about Kris as the container of the soul, the prophecy which exists in a world built around perception. My guess is that Kris views themself as “something” separate from humans or monsters, either from their past as the only human in town or the soul/player controlling them, causing them to be changed into “something” different in the dark world. Or maybe they view themself as already dead with how the soul/player puppets their body and their skin is blue because their body is a puppeted corpse, who's to say really. Either way I’d call that a medium change to their body, but what could cause whatever's going on with the Knight.

Minor shapeshifting, appears to be made of shadow crystal, one massive eye/mouth, the ability to pull a full sword out of their hand, not really having the body shape of anyone we’ve seen, pretty prominent antlers that clearly point towards the Holiday family, that would be some pretty serious changes, especially if you remember that I suggested that they may be Asgore considering he definitely would not fit into that armor, but what could cause that? Well what if someone’s view of themself was twisted so far that they couldn’t recognise themself, what if a person viewed their body as a powerful living weapon that needed to be powerful in order to do what was necessary, what if the Roaring Knight was never the person who was in control? After all, a knight serves the crown right?

I think that Carol Holiday IS the mastermind, or at the very least is close to being so, but the Roaring Knight is someone who genuinely believes what they tell the darkners, who has been manipulated by Carol Holiday and genuinely believes that they are freeing those who have been trapped and oppressed who is fighting those who don't fully understand for the greater good, who doesn’t even know what the Roaring really is. Their body simply takes the form of the weapon of justice that they believe they are. A Knight in a powerful suit of armor with a powerful weapon and antlers to symbolise their ruler. There might not even be anything underneath the Knight’s armor, it might just be pure solid shadow crystal, which would explain the fact that nobody seems to decently fit the shape of the Knight’s armor as well as the Knight having a high health and a total defense of 0.

And that fits Asgore perfectly. Easily swayed and doesn’t really think things through very well himself but is willing to do and sacrifice just about anything to do what he believes is right, that's Asgore baby. What's more, who else would have known what was happening at Toriel's house in chapter 3, all we saw was that Toriel had called the police and we know the Knight isn't Undyne and I highly doubt its Napstablook. Sure the Knight may have just happened to see the fountain but Asgore used to be on the police force before he did… something. It's not absurd to think that Undyne would have told him what was happening and he arrived first because his flower shop is closer than the police station. The Knight also seemingly opened the fountain in the church in search of Toriel, and seeing as Asgore somewhat creepily seems to know everywhere Toriel is going he would have known she was planning on returning to the church before the storm stopped her. Also are we ignoring the conspiracy theory boards in Asgore’s flower shop? The one that doesn’t really get explained? Asgore is most likely involved in all this somehow if not as the Knight.

In the end I know this isn’t even close to solid proof of anything, especially as Dess is most likely going to be important somehow, but personally after seeing the Gerson fight in chapter 4 I really hope it's right. It would be very interesting to get an all out Asgore fight considering the implications that he was holding back in Undertale.

i was playing pokemon blue on stream earlier at 350% speed and i got to thinking

what if the reason nobody in the pokemon world has any good teams is because its considered a dick move to have a proper team comp

like culturally everyone is like “haha pick the pokemon you want! if you’re happy with three geodudes, thats you and your life!” and then you’re supposed to just have a friendly battle with any other pokemon trainers and whatever pokemon they just happen to have

like the average trainer is probably just walking around with a growlithe because that’s their pet, or a hiker has three geodudes because the geodudes help him with hiking. and if this pet owner and geodude hiker meet, you’re supposed to have a friendly battle but nothing too serious

now imagine the 10 year old kid that has six pokeballs on their belt comes up. you’re like “haha, we’ll have a friendly battle!” and you throw out your geodude 

and they throw out a fucking gyarados, and it one-shots your geodude 

and then you throw out your pidgey you have because the pidgey helps you navigate mountains because you’re a hiker

and then electricity crackles around the gyarados and a thunderbolt flies off of this giant dragon and evaporates your pidgey 

so you’re down to your last pokemon. you tell them you’re gonna send out your bulbasaur. the ten year old is like “oh okay in that case i’m gonna pull out my vulpix.” like not only is this kid walking around with an amped-up super dragon, but theyve also got multiple pokemon specifically for making type advantage counter-picks?

Spoiler warning for In Stars and Time!

Yes because by going on estrogen The King is embracing a form of change which would eventually spiral into The King accepting the fact that the world is constantly changing and not trying to freeze an entire country in time. This would never happen however because The King is directly opposed to change and despite loving the country of change Vaugarde she is a bit transphobic and would only realize who she really is when it's too late to go back.

Now I know what you're clearly saying "but The King adored Vaugarde and the country's entire religion is based on change and is extremely accepting and even encouraging of being trans, how would The King be transphobic" and to that I say you missed The King's actual character.

The King DOES adore Vaugarde and it's people and would do anything to prevent even the chance of it disappearing like the forgotten country but she never truly understood the people of Vaugarde or their beliefs, if she did she would have never tried something that went so directly against what they are and beleived. Instead, she simply saw that they were kind and accepting to her and disregarded everything else about them in her obsession with preserving them. This obsession with preservation would cause The King to view changing oneself as an insult to her and her goals leading to being transphobic, even if it was only slightly due to focusing more on her goals of freezing Vaugarde than hating trans people. And all of that is on top of the fact that The King was so obsessed with her goals it's doubtful that she would have had time for the self reflection to even begin to get over her transphobia between researching wish and time craft and whatever else she needed to do to get ready to freeze Vaugarde.

In the end yes if The King went on estrogen than she never would have done all the aweful things she did, but she would never accept that part of herself in any reasonable amount of time before she would try and freeze Vaugarde.

So with how some animals have multiple stages of growth (tadpoles->frogs) and some just grow bigger as they get older (pandas, elephants, stuff like that), which one are humans? Because babies don't change nearly as much as say tadpoles, but they do change a bit externally and quite a bit internally, right? Is there something specific needed to be classified that way, or are babies like the larval stages of humans?
