🚨EMERGENCY! PLEASE READ!🚨

Moataz @moatazart, Mariam, and baby Maria are set to make the dangerous journey from Gaza City in the north to Rafah in the south. From there, God willing, they will enter Egypt.

HOWEVER, the money they had allocated to procure shelter and food while in Egypt was utterly depleted by exploitative fees and hidden costs, which we break down in this post. Moataz speaks more on the situation in this post and on his own blog @moatazart, which we ask people to follow and boost. They have a fund going to raise the remaining money, but the fund only has a week and a half left before it closes! They are not even halfway to their goal!

Please share what you can with Moataz’s family so they can find safety and security in Egypt! They have no one in Egypt with whom they can stay and currently nowhere near enough money to secure shelter! After all they have survived, please don’t let this young family be left vulnerable! If they cannot procure food and shelter, they will be extremely vulnerable not only to the dangers of homelessness, but to groups and individuals who prey on refugees!

Safety for Gazan refugees does not end with leaving Gaza! If this campaign is not finished in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, they will be homeless in Egypt! They are so close to a fresh start, please don’t let all the risks they are taking to find safety be for nothing!

the site layout changes depending on the size of your screen using media queries, so theoretically if you went into desktop mode in browser and turned your rotation to landscape mode on your phone you should be able to see the desktop version of the site. i haven't actually tested this, but it should work

Site revamp devlog 2

second devlog for my second day working, yippie!!!

today i worked on rewriting the navigation button script to fix bugs, it's still not done and needs work but progress is progress! trying to get this working is a tough job but i'm getting there!!!

secondly, for whatever reason, the content warning switches work normally again now that i actually started putting them on comic pages. yesterday's devlog i mentioned briefly that they were acting weird, but i guess it's fine now...? no idea what that was about, but hey, they work again as intended so that's good i think !!! i also did something small for the content warnings that i will keep a secret for now!

i also made some edits to the navigation bar's styling to make it a little cleaner and less clunky. this was a small change, but i think it looks nicer even if it's small.

lastly, i got the first alternate site theme (the wedoncare green theme) in place. making new site themes is going to be easier than ever with the new code, and i'm really excited for you guys to see it live!!! unfortunately, site themes will look different on mobile than they do on desktop because the mobile site itself looks notably different than the desktop site. this was a small sacrifice for the new improved mobile-friendly reading experience. the colors will still change and everything but there won't be a background visible. it'll still look cool though, i promise!

For the maintenance, I'm curious if you'll be editing the comic page URLs or navigation at all? I've always found navigation within a volume very difficult, since to navigate via URL you need to input both the update AND page number in the URL so if you do the math wrong or don't know where a longer or shorter update was then you're screwed, or to navigate via the buttons you've got to switch back and forth between clicking two different buttons.

yes, that will be updated. here's the changes planned for comic reading itself SO FAR:

you will be able to input the page number without the update and it'll auto-redirect to the proper page inside the update (confirmed, not implemented because i still have to put all the pages together)

the pages will be organized differently, instead of just /comic/ or /comic2/ it'll be a lot cleaner (confirmed, already working on it)

(atm this is a theoretical feature, i haven't actually fully figured out how this'll work yet.) i hope to include the ability to preview pages in thumbnails and be able to scroll through them as you're actively reading to quickly find pages if you remember what they look like. this will also be an optional feature you can toggle on/off in the event you don't want the next pages spoiled or something

navigation buttons will be above and below the pages by default, but you can toggle where they're placed if you want them only on the top or only on the bottom. (confirmed, already implemented)

hovering over the navigation buttons tells you what the button does so you don't have to guess as a first reader (for example, the next button has a tooltip that says "next" when you hover, first in update has a "first in update" tooltip, etc)

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SAVE/BOOKMARK YOUR CURRENT PAGE AND YOU CAN LOAD IT WHEN YOU REVISIT THE SITE for when you go back to read again. (confirmed, already implemented)

not related to navigation necessarily but there will be the ability to toggle content warnings and set categories of what you want to filter or disable all of them entirely (confirmed, already implemented)
