I still cant believe marty drinks diet pepsi like damn . he already has trauma he doesnt need that too
I'm determinedly going through my inbox as an attempt at a first step and I COMPLETELY forgot about this ask haha. For those reading along at home, this is in fact not a bot and is a personal friend of mine I coaxed over to Tumblr- they thought it would be funny to name themselves like a bot and frankly they are correct I think. ANYWAYS as for the ask. To be honest, I agree, diet soda tastes so bad. But, in addition to the usual knowledge- that drinking diet soda was a huge fad at the time in the 80s, and so lots of people were drinking it- I've both spoken to and seen tons of people across social medias mention that growing up with nothing but diet soda in the house led to them just. Deciding to keep drinking it, and on top of that their palates just don't like regular soda anymore.
Tumblr media
And y'know, what with the fact that it seems George drinks Diet Pepsi too [and seems to be drinking it with??? milk???], I'm inclined to personally take this as my own headcanon.

HELLO LADS I thought I would contribute an absolutely absurd dream I had. I don't remember most of the dream but I remember Marty and his family [and Biff for some reason??? He might've been working there] and also me, my own dad and parts of my family were in a farm house and it just had a big label in the front "McFly". I think they'd just moved out there? I remember exploring around a bit then the POV switched solidly to Marty and he was looking around. They'd apparently found slivers of diamond in the light fixtures? So they had a lady coming through to check all of them to find them all and they were gonna make big bucks. But Marty was bored, so while he was looking for something to do he finds his guitar.
And. And he.
So he picks it up to start playing, and he shreds it. So well, in fact, that somehow a TORNADO KICKS UP in the distance, like somehow I can see the tornado forming from in the sky outside as the clouds start to swirl together. They kinda start swirling around Marty? Vague avatar like things. And he looks excited at this and I remember thinking "hm! Marty you should Stop" but he's having a good time so he shreds even harder.
Jump cut and. Well! It's a tornado. The house is destroyed. But like, in the cartoon way where the infrastructure is there like just the outer paneling and everything inside is gone but the McFly sign is still there. And I just remember everyone looking bummed [but probably not as bummed as they should be] and Biff just coming over to hit Marty with a "nice going, butthead". Marty was Utterly Unbothered though and if anything looked a little pumped after his apparent display of either godly power or just being really chummy with some grand power.
That's it that's the dream. I also distinctly remember thinking "why are you all just dejected I think we should be concerned Marty can control the wind slash tornadoes???" But alas </3
Also I think I remember sitting there watching him like "hm I'm the only one watching him do this. Logically I should stop him." And so instead I sat there watching him get excited and continue to jam out til the tornado spun around him and the farmhouse was destroyed <3

Hi idk if you still use tumblr (your most recent post is from last October lol) but i wanted to know where you got yout BTTF comic??? I want one really badly but i cant find one to buy online, did you have to go to a Japanese website or something?
Sort of, yes! I answered this in the replies of one of the original posts, but it Would probably be best to place the info up front and center, especially because as far as I know I still am the only source for more than just a few pages of the art in that thing. Anyway!
All you really have to do is make an account on the Japanese storefront of Amazon- you can use your normal address, your normal credit card, all that good stuff, so don't worry- and then paste the following into the search bar.
バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー (ポプラキミノベル ろ 1-1)
It should cost roundabouts $25 including shipping, so it isn't too bad at all! Happy reading!

REBLOGGING THIS ONE AS WELL ik the Bobs have said absolutely no reboots or sequels but I think an exception should be made someday Specifically for This. “Which version??” yeah <3
Look at me. Look me in the eyes. Incredibly important question to posit here.
If there was a Muppet version of Back to the Future which character would make for the funniest one to be the token human?
okay because I’m losing my MIND over this. On the one hand, it would be SO funny for Marty to be the human, on account of it would make his entire family muppets. Can you imagine. So much of the cast of these films is Marty’s blood relatives. Can you imagine Marty- human, still definitely Michael J. Fox Marty- at the McFly family dinner scene in the first movie and everyone is muppets. Can you imagine the Biff muppet being intimidating. Marty full on chucking the Tannen muppets across the room. Marty being grabbed by muppets and successfully stopped. Muppets throwing Marty in the trunk. Marty is tall for once in his life but at what cost. Think about Biff again because I can’t stop laughing.
On the OTHER hand, Doc being this mad fucking scientist in this town full of muppets and everyone thinks he’s crazy. You’ve got this one muppet, a little guy, wants to be a rockstar, and one day he approaches the mad scientist and they become best friends. Everyone thinks he’s crazy but it’s never about him being  a human in a sea of muppets, they’re just “his science is too crazy”. As this six foot some man just towers over all of them. Can you imagine Doc just practically sitting to maintain eye contact with muppet Marty. Doc falls in love with the Clara muppet and they have muppet children. No one questions this. Doc having to operate a train that was sized for muppets to get them back to the future.
They’re both such stellar options I can’t even function, thanks so much for coming <3 let me know what you think because I’m just gonna keep laughing about this.

AND SPEAKING OF HAVING WATCHED THE TRILOGY THREE DAYS IN A ROW which yeah, if you missed that I got extremely enabled by three separate friends who wanted to watch Back to the Future with me after I talked about it nonstop for so long :) AND I WILL BE SHOWING THEM THE REST OF THE TRILOGY its so good. I love my buddies. They’re great. BUT. But but BUT. The consecutive watches gave me some THOUGHTS. They’re not really big enough to be their own posts I don’t think, so this sort of setup of just a couple little things is, I think, the best way to go about it. And another read more since I’m quite chatty now that I’ve got my voice back, so enjoy if you’d like!
Sparx Thoughts!
Tumblr media
First and foremost! Because this one made me GASP because I actually thought of a theory as to what the hell Doc could possibly be testing with his clock experiment by around the second or third watch! It’s not terribly glamorous a theory, but it did suddenly occur to me that watches are a sort of touchy thing anyway, and considering this is Doc of all people- who attempts to keep things as exact as possible and who is rather theatrical, especially in regards to such things as the way he was acting and- well, attempting to present in the video he had Marty shooting? I think the experiment was just to test whether Doc was capable of setting two clocks at the same time down to the exact nanosecond. I also kinda figure that if this is true, it was probably far from his first attempt at doing so and this was just the culmination. As for Marty being there? Well, considering Doc called his own house [which, where did he do that from? A payphone? The secret second lab? Not important, really, just a thought] and- despite the “thank god I found you”- seemed to know that this was a highly probable place for him to be, Doc having Marty report on the late clocks could potentially have been part of the plan. The way of getting the results, so to speak. I.. don’t really think Doc planned on it making Marty late of course, of course not- I think it was either a flaw in the plan he hadn’t foreseen, or Marty reporting on it actually wasn’t really part of the plan and he’d kind of just forgotten that this string of events risked occurring.
OH. And as for them being precisely 25 minutes slow- well, Doc’s got a thing for consistent usage of numbers and thematic type things like that. He wants to go 25 years into the future, so he decides the clock experiment will also be 25 minutes! Just for a bit of silly little lineups that would make him chuckle.
Tumblr media
ITEM ONE: 50s Doc wears? Two watches? He has one on each wrist. It’s a little hard to see because of his long sleeves, but he DOES have two of them on right now. Which? He had only JUST gotten the idea for the time machine, so it isn’t even as if he had already begun his descent into clock obsessions. There is always the explanation that Doc has just always been into having lots of clocks and the like, but I’d always gathered that that came about because of the drive to complete the time machine. And yet! Here he is. Double prepared at all times! In case one explodes or stops working, perhaps.
Tumblr media
This isn’t a thought at all I just think it’s really funny 50s Doc gets so into getting all of this working he just chucks his jacket right at Marty. And Marty catches it! Like he catches it and sets it down and he doesn’t say anything, like, he’s just used to rolling with whatever Doc’s up to at any given moment. WHICH. We learned this so long ago in the parking lot scene when Marty was willing to step back in front of a car just because Doc looked at him, but this bit still made me giggle enough I just had to toss it in here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one has actually been on my mind for awhile with very little grounding behind it nor any particular actual discussion point, but actually finally noticing a certain detail and then looking deeper into it made it into something with a little more meat to it to speak on. By which I mean, on my consecutive rewatches, I thought that I’d finally hit gold in this! See, I’d always wondered why on earth Marty knew the local homeless man by name. To the point where not only does Marty use him and his presence in Hill Valley square as a grounding point of reference upon return to 1985 in the first film, but he also reacts with no small amount of shock at seeing him in Hell Valley in the second one- especially being quite so extra ornery as he was. Does Marty talk to the guy? Is he just a person that all Hill Valley teenagers know by name? Or is it literally everyone in town? Is it like Doc’s situation where it’s someone that no one really seems to like, or that everyone looks down on, and that spurred Marty to at least be nice to the guy? Try to reach out to him?
And when I finally paid extra mind to the opening scene in 1955, I thought I at least connected some kind of dot in the fact that maybe everyone knew who Red was because he was previously the MAYOR of Hill Valley! After all, the mayor had been nicknamed “Red”, and the homeless man was also called Red. But upon looking into it, it turns out the Bobs themselves had refuted this? Both in that the men were played by different actors [which, the time-changed versions of everyone were played by the same people every time, something my faceblind ass struggled with SO badly but that’s a tale for another day], and that apparently Fox just. Made up Red’s name on the spot? Which. Which leaves us back at square one. Why does Marty know this guy by name and at least vaguely personally? Even if Red doesn’t precisely seem to be all that friendly in reciprocation, it’s still! Perplexing.
Tumblr media
This one is much smaller! And also maybe earlier in the clocks one you thought “didn’t he go 30 years in the future though?” And like! Yeah! He did! He changed his mind which is so weird to me as just an odd little detail. In the opening parking lot scene, Doc tells Marty he is going to go 25 years into the future. And yet, come the end of the film, he’s changed tune to 30 years. He does follow up at the end with “it’s a nice round number” so it could have been a spur of the moment shift in plans? But why not just do that to begin with? Or was this some sort of minor timeline change? Did their adventures just make Doc decide to go a little further out for some reason? It’s... really not an important pondering at all, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I noticed it simply because it’s so small and inane a change in detail.
That’s it <3 thanks for coming <3

I’VE BEEN GONE SO LONG. Finally getting the energy to write on here a little bit and staring at my surroundings as I’ve got McFly July nearly passed me by and an extremely silly post about pizza taking off... very nice to see this little corner of Tumblr still trucking along :)

I read your thing about Doc and his notorious hunching, and wanted to know what you thought of my take on it.
Him being hunched is probably from him leaning over equations since I don't think he stands fully straight. And doc most likely knows that Marty is self conscious about his very small stature. So by being at eye level and not literally looking down at Marty it helps him feel more comfortable. Doc is also probably one of those nerds that get excited as he explains things and being at eye level probably helps him with displaying that so he doesn't scare anyone if he, puffs himself up in a way like with how he bounces around in the beginning in the first one when he's like 'If works! It actually works!' he turns away from Marty as he does it, not towards him. As far as 50s doc doing the hunching thing he does it to have a bit more of a personal connection with Marty. Since he's probably looked down on and called stupid by his dad, judge Brown when he found out that his son didn't want a law degree and wanted to be a scientist.
Your post this morning was sent to me by a fellow BTTF lover and it's been the entire base of our friendship. I don't find many other fans in the wild, I guess you could say, so it's nice to know there's others as obsessed with the old trilogy as I am!
Tumblr media
HIIIIIII I don't recall anymore when "this morning" was but it's surely long past by now. I am So sorry for how long this has been sitting here but here I go to eat your thoughts and tell you what I think <3 ALSO HOW DO YOU SEND GIFS IN ASKS.... your power. Or well uh it might just be my lack of familiarity with how Tumblr works despite being here for like... years. Pff. Still, thank you for putting them in my inbox :)
I DO totally agree that Doc probably does not have very good posture. Not all the time really, but Doc has always come across as the "do as I say not as I do" sort of guy when it comes to that sort of casual personal health and safety- to summarize what might have otherwise been a big ramble, the man eats Burger King often enough there's debris strewn across the lab in the opening scene when they've long since not even been in there. Doc getting so absorbed in his experiments that he not only hunches, but probably stands and contorts around in the weirdest positions possible? I'm just saying I think that's something the rejuvenation clinic probably did a really good patch-up on. And, y’know, it very much tracks considering how often he’ll just gesture and move about wildly and then just! Hold that position, whatever it is, for the time he’s talking!
Tumblr media
As far as 50s Doc goes though, I think I could see that! For as silly as I got during that post, I do believe part of it for him back then was just the fact he was a lot less assured and not particularly well-versed in spending time with other humans for all that long at a time. To him, whether conscious or subconscious [and I kinda think it is mostly subconscious on his part], eye contact and visibly paying mind- and maybe even leveling the playing field- is probably something considerate to do.
Man. A lot of this sure is looping back into me wanting to go off on little side tangents about my beliefs about autistic Doc <:] That’ll definitely be another time though, as there’s still one point remaining in your ask I’d love to tackle. That being, Marty’s height and his feelings about it!
Granted, anyone is allowed to feel however they’d like, especially with something that doesn’t really get directly addressed at any point. Sort of, anyway. Marty being small comes up a lot, though, and personally, I’ve actually always been of the belief it’s something Marty doesn’t really think about until it is suddenly a problem. As far as I can tell, he’s never particularly minded, but I’m here to gather the evidence to my point of view! Is this a convenient excuse to talk about all these moments that I find very silly? Yeah :) It sure is.
I! Won’t be covering the movies very much here, if only because the post in question- the Doc crouching post- pretty much covered every significant instance of Marty being small being brought up in the trilogy itself. Does this make my point malleable? Perhaps! I’m exploring it anyway. Using a read more as well since it’s a touch image heavy AND kind of just a touch rambly.
Tumblr media
Item number one! Marty is aware of his own size! ... Sometimes. Sometimes, Marty knows without hesitation [and he does Not hesitate trying this plan] that he can fit into something like a box and goes right for it. Sometimes, Marty challenges someone to a fight and they turn out to have almost an entire foot on him. Go figure!
Tumblr media
THIS ONE IS BLURRY and not particularly “evidence” so much as “Sparx’s point got away from them in record time and they’re using the opportunity to talk and share things again” but since it’s the best I can do and also the only item on this list that made me laugh for a solid five minutes while I kept pushing this statue around, I’m including it. In the game, there’s a statue in the center of town in the Citizen Brown timeline that you can interact with. If you do, Marty will push it. Marty is not tall enough to push it. Marty has to jump every single time he wants to turn the statue. You can do this an infinite number of times. It’s worth every press of the button I assure you.
Tumblr media
Back to the focus [there’s a focus?], the wording on this one has actually stuck with me quite a bit. The guard in question isn’t even that tall to be perfectly honest, and yet Marty seems to be, in his own head, a perfectly average height when compared to other people. It’s the guard that’s too tall, you see.
Tumblr media
This one is here in direct antithesis to the next one! Because yeah, on the one hand, this is a rare occasion someone directly calls Marty short. And he.. doesn’t really react! It’s also kind of antithesis to the previous one too, whereas in Marty’s head the guard is too tall, but Jennifer here is saying he’s the short one in any given equation. Now is also a good time to point out that in the game there’s several shots [including one I’ll be nabbing from my PS4 one of these days] that makes Jennifer look taller than Marty which is another source of endless amusement for yours truly.
Tumblr media
This one! This one is actually a bit that might more support the view of Marty being insecure about his height. Although from my end, I can easily see it as Marty narrating to kids and- well, “runt” isn’t really something cool hero guys get called by the villain. “Thorn in my side” comes to mind as the sort of thing a villain might call a hero that sounds really cool, and as many, many instances in both the movies, game, and comics show, Marty’s a big fan of movies, TV shows, and the cool heroes within them- and, of course, the cool things they say. Runt? Runt isn’t cool. Runt does not make Marty sound like a badass to this playground full of children. He never seemed to mind much in the trilogy, but playing to your interpretation yet again, he sure did have other stuff to worry about whenever Mad Dog was around!
I SIMPLY. It’s always been really fun to me that Marty is the rare sort of short character who kind of. Really doesn’t seem to have any kind of complex about his size? If anything, it seems to cause the most problems because he isn’t often aware of how little he is in the grand scheme of things. It makes for really funny setups though, so I think that’s okay <3
Thank you for poking me though!!! You’ve given me lots of food for thought, and I’m also very happy to hear both you and your new friend found each other through something silly I threw together ^^; have a lovely day!
#doc brown#marty mcfly#bttf#back to the future#sparxy talks future#i've been DEAD but also my friends have been like#enabling the hell out of me and i've watched back to the future for three consecutive days#so! in a way thank them for me regaining the nerves to speak again HELP#also like MAN i really can't apologize enough for taking this long <:]#hopefully this is a good response/read#i like the whole 'doc has learned that his height and energy combined can be intimidating' that's a neat viewpoint#granted I think if Doc ever stopped crouching around Marty the very most he would get is maybe a single 'huh#doc have you always been that tall?'#and then they'd move on lol#but it's just Neat#i like thinking about them#and also so so sorry besties i just think how much marty being Little is brought up is among the top tier comedy#the only reason i ended up getting the demerit for the statue in the game before i even knew i was supposed to#was because i was laughing so hard at the fact marty had to JUMP to push it#like i love you little man#but if i put something on the top shelf you would be sol#i say this like marty isn't exactly the type of kid to climb the counters if he really really had to#i'll bet he's only done that once in doc's lab before immediately being told to NOT do that#and doc proceeds to move everything so it's in marty's reach#marty of course does not notice this#he just grabs something that used to be on the top shelf really casually and moves on with his life

“Maybe you were adopted” said to the whole entire human person telling the muppet Doc about his muppet dad getting bullied down the hall. Still not a word about Marty being a human person.

Today I am feeling SO soft about the fantastic running theme in the Back to the Future series about the power of love. Yes, I hope you heard it in your head too when I typed it out but REALLY I can’t stop thinking about it. About love and belief and support and how powerful it can be. Sure, there’s the inverse, we see plenty of that in the conga line of adults either being flat out awful or just utterly neglectful to Marty in the opening of the first film, and we know that didn’t do him well. But my brain’s hyperfocused on the good right now- how even the smallest bit of friendship, of goodwill, of caring, can utterly change the trajectory of a person.
In the first film, you’ve got “Calvin” with George and Lorraine. Sure, Marty was in on it to some degree to save his own skin, but there was nothing about saving his own skin in following his dad when he didn’t know what else to do, in saving him from being hit by the car just on instinct. Trying to stop Lorraine from drinking and smoking wouldn’t have affected much, but it’s still something he wanted to do. Marty hits George with the same saying Doc instilled confidence in him with- “if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything”. And after a week of this, of believing they could be better and helping to cheer them on, what did we get? Lone Pine, where the McFly family is prosperous and happy and doing leagues better than they had been before.
Kindness, love, belief, they have impacts. Hell, look at Goldie in the first film- Marty says he’ll be mayor and he’s floating on top of the world for the entire rest of the scene at the idea someone just said they bet he could do it. Sure, Marty wasn’t exactly saying that solely with the intent to cheer- Marty just knew it was going to happen. And yet, when the cafe worker is berating Goldie’s talk of a big future, that’s when Marty chimes in. That’s when, and more importantly why, Marty decides to say it- like yeah, Marty’s probably never been shaken more in his life, but hearing someone getting torn down when he knows they’re wrong, his first instinct is to shoot back and say ‘no, you’re wrong, he is going to be great someday’.
And for all the smaller examples, we have our biggest ones. Doc and Marty themselves. Marty, who was torn down by the entire world around him and could easily have been doomed to spiral downwards- both acting by presumption and by seeing “the sins of the father” in the son in 2015- and the man who Marty befriended, who drills into his head every day that he is capable, that he can do it, that he’s an amazing kid worthy of amazing things. Something he pushes forward all the time, honestly- with George, with Goldie, Marty’s go-to for cheering really is from the one guy who’s shown him mountains of kindness, love, care. In Marty’s mind, this is the truth, you can do it!
For all examples, I’m choosing to pull from the game for Doc, if nothing else because of the fact it was these examples that triggered a lot of this. Citizen Brown, who’s spent roughly 50-60 years of his life solidly under Edna’s thumb and for whom nothing has shaken him before, and Marty refusing to leave until he’s cracked through to get to the man who knows this is wrong, who loves science, who wants to help people and make things right! It’s in the absence of true love and support, in how Edna even managed to twist him to that at all even though we all know Emmett Brown is a good man who wants to help. And it was real love, the love and support and again, that belief, of someone who truly wants what’s best for him that snapped through it- shook Citizen Brown of the wrongdoings of what was going on, shook Emmett on that rooftop [and although it perhaps took some unfortunate methods to get there, the amount of unease Marty felt in doing a lot of what he did in episode 4, in my opinion, shows a lot of that love and of strength of resolve that he was willing to make himself the villain for even just moments in the face of wanting to help and so rarely knowing what else he could possibly do].
In the absence of love, people fall and cow and do whatever it takes to survive because there is no other option they can see. And in the face of just the tiniest bit of that love, they can blossom. We see it in Lone Pine’s existence, we see it in the game’s timeline having grown even kinder with Emmett’s reforged relationship with his father, in the McFly family’s happiness and in Marty and Doc themselves when they’ve got even just one other person who believes they can do amazing things. And they do! They literally love each other so much as to continuously, time and again, help save each other’s lives in both a milder sense and a very literal one.
The trilogy- or, really, the entire series, because it’s where it all begins- opening on The Power of Love is really truly doing something to me today. It’s true! Love is powerful and it can reroute time itself. And god that’s sick as hell.

Apologies for being dead so long! Touch and go, but I've just finished moving across the country! It's still quite early along and it'll probably be slow going getting back into the swing of it, but thought I'd at least reassure I'm still alive <3 I have asks to get on, thoughts to share, silly little projects to get on... But for now, a hello into the void!

oh my Goodness yes I’m putting this to the blog RIGHT now
Piggybacking off those lovely Einstein thoughts from the other day my brain’s continued trucking along, and I’ve found myself left with SUCH a lovely mental image I’m choosing to share with all of you now. Are you lot familiar with the film Because of Winn-Dixie? If not that’s fine, it isn’t terribly relevant moreso just the sparking memory that got this train a-goin. And I’ll be using it for visual aid. ANYWAYS guess the thought. Can’t?
Tumblr media
Einstein bath days.
You KNOW they’re probably adventures and a half. He’s a very well-behaved dog, yes, but even then it’s impossible to know for sure how even a well-trained dog will respond to baths. An older family dog who was SO well behaved absolutely hated the water. So are we left with the mental image of Einstein shaking water off onto a frantic Doc and Marty? An Einstein who must be held in place as one of his dear owners sudses him up?
And on top of that, another spark from the scene above is where might they be washing the dear pooch. I don’t have access to my handbook where I think there might possibly be floor plans for Doc’s garage, but I think there might be a tub in his bathroom? Which does beg the second question- is Einie a tub dog, or an outside with the hose dog? Either one is rife with possibilities- running through the yard or through the garage, a pup with just Doc or a bit older with both Marty and Doc trailing behind. Or perhaps even sillier, solely Marty set to the task as Doc tinkers away in the lab, only to hear a loud shout as Einie triumphs over the hose.
Do I think there’s just as likely a chance that Einie would behave oh so sweetly for his favorite boy? Yes, yes I do. But I think entertaining the silly thought is just as fun. And hey, if nothing else, imagining the excited walk of joy of a squeaky clean Einie after a peaceful bath carries just as much amazing importance as far as I’m concerned.
