Kaiju Kumora is a giant living storm cloud that Baikinman created, using his mentor Baikinsennin’s stolen magic staff. He uses the cloud giant to cause trouble for people, but eventually Kumora stops taking orders from Baikinman. He takes the magic staff for himself, allowing him to become even bigger and stronger. In order to defeat him, a strong wind had to be caused to blow him away.

Here’s a water splash effect on Krupp from Dreamworks’ Captain Underpants. I like how these effects are able to articulate in a cartoony 2D style.

Here are some things I designed for the episode of Unikitty called “Kaiju Kitty”! This episode was probably the most challenging episode I’ve ever worked on so far!

Answer: Dramatic Annihilation

New waterfall and riverflow designs.

All splash design demos were conducted for ANI 398: Advanced 2D Visual Effects.  The first image is a classic umbrella splash; the second image is a classic secondary splash; the next three images are 15-20 minute Sharpie demos; the image after that is Peter Moehrle’s pastel interpretation of my secondary splash gesture; lastly, the final two images are a demonstration of a liquid with a thicker viscosity, lava, which I spruced up in Photoshop.

These are only SOME sketches and mock up designs and final FX designs I did this past! There are many more effects I’ve done but I don’t wanna give away what happens later in the season. I hope people enjoy these and the process behind them! Excuse my weird made up Star transformation sequence…I don’t think anyone told me to draw those. Enjoy!
