Okay, Friends is a deeply flawed show. But does anyone else headcanon Ross as trans?

It makes sense of so many things for me. He pretended to be a woman as a child and was teased for it. He mercilessly polices other men’s masculinity, while struggling to police his own. When he does let down that toxic barrier and just behaves as his freest self, it’s usually to act in a way he considers “girly”, and will shut down his own happiness to conform when men are around. He felt happy and confident in women’s clothing until he realized that other people saw it as women’s clothing on a man, then what looks like dysphoria hits and he feels horrible and has to escape.

He’s also at his least selfish and douche-y when he stops worrying about performing masculinity for a few brief moments. And of course, the show makes his struggle with his perceived femininity the butt of a long running joke, because of course it does.
