Lanolin sighs quietly, glaring past her feet where she sits. She still — doesn't like Sonic. Who's so irresponsible, who doesn't take anything seriously, who doesn't play by the kind of rules that would keep people like her safe. But she doesn't like herself either, and she can see now, in hindsight, that so little of her resentment truly has anything to do with him. She just wants to feel safe, and maybe she never gets that, but that's not really Sonic's fault. "Sorry," she says, voice flat. "For...not trusting you. During the races, and...now."

SONIC WAS EVERY RULESTICKLER'S worst nightmare. fact was : his way of life wasn't for everybody. it wasn't for cream , who deserved a STABLE HOME with her super cool mom and GOOD PALS to hang out with . it wasn't for jewel , who somehow managed to find herself at home mountains of paperwork . ( b l e h . ) IT WASN'T FOR LANOLIN EITHER . and that was fine .

SO HE DIDN'T EXPECT JUST anyone to get it . and he didn't expect everybody and their grandmother's granny to have him on their good side . so when lanolin apologizes for it ( as she'd ever owed him that ) - sonic's ear flicks back and forth . THOUGHTFUL , but not totally tone - deaf .

||. nothing can stop me from talking abt s.on//ic fron.tie.rs now and by golly I'm gonna talk about it while i work on my 100% file. and specifically today i'm thinking once again about the MEMORY TOKENS . i've talked before that the memory tokens are pieces of his own memories he is actively giving up to save his friends, but i like to think that the "music memory" tokens are other pieces of sonic's memories that are being stolen from him bit by bit. there are tons of jukebox tracks from other games... and so, combine that with sonic's slow amnesia causing him to forget his own name and what he's doing... not to mention WHY he's doing it, i think it's entirely fairy to say that he was, in effect slowly losing everything.

and willingly to boot : his friends all had their own ephiphanies about how and why and when they wanted to move forward with their lives and do great things! he wants them to be able to do that. it's his entire life's philosophy! so nothing was or is going to stop him in fighting for their freedom to go and do all of it; even if it costs him his.
