Your phone reads as the alarm screeches, you turn it off missing a few times in your attempt to reclaim the sleep you desired, although in vain, you finally open your eyes to silence the alarm and enjoy the sounds of the cars below within your apartment.

It seemed to last an eternity until a buzz redirects your attention.

Reminder: 2 Meetings, 3PM and 5PM.

You take a long inhale and an equally long sigh not ready to face the agonising meetings ahead, you blink a few times until finally pushing yourself off the cloud-like mattress and allowing the silk bedsheets to flow off your body. Your walk to your bathroom, the marble material of the floor cooling the warmth of your feet as you walk, the dark marble of the marble clashing with the gold accents.

Your phone reads as the eternal bore of the meetings ate away at you for the whole day leaving you with no breaks Damn corporate job. The boredom was then put to rest by a singular notification.

The pure and utter excitement from that one notification made your spine tingle and energy shot through your entire being. You immediately reply:

As the meeting ends you adjust your black suit the stuffiness of the room nearly making you break out into a sweat. You leave the room the outside cool air on the balcony cooling you as the sound of the cars wizzing by drifted your mind elsewhere.

Two years later, still no justice.

In the middle of the night on March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was senselessly killed by police as she slept in her own home. Breonna was a daughter, friend, sister, and hero in her community.

Since her death, no one has been charged for her murder. The only semblance of justice that we have seen is the passing of the Breonna Law in Kentucky. But there is still much work to be done to ensure that other innocent people do not continue to lose their lives in the same manner.
