Cousin rivalry - OC concepts (1/6?)

I’ve been meaning to continue my comic that I haven’t updated in checks watch two YEARS?? Oops. I started jogging my memory on it and needed to make some side characters, but I didn’t want them to be boring and then got very very invested in their designs/backstories/relationships. So that’s where I’m at right now.

These are two out of about seven new characters that I made for ~plot purposes~ and my best attempt at concept sheets (thank you, youtube tutorials). They are cousins and rivals since childhood MWAHAHA. They’re good at all the same things, except one is always better by a hair. I wonder if they will eventually learn how to get along? 🤔

I hope to polish up the sketches of the other characters and make more concept art (even though I struggled with these ones an absurd amount). I’m mainly making them for my own reference when making the comic, but I’m excited to share them with you all! Though I start spring semester of school tomorrow so I’ll be back on the grind 😭 Ok enough rambling, bye!!

Breezy sunset 🌾🌤 My first illustration of 2025! 

One of my goals for the year is to improve my digital landscapes and backgrounds. I have been painting landscapes traditionally for years yet I can’t seem to translate the techniques into digital art. I also struggle to integrate characters into landscapes. This drawing was way out of my comfort zone, but a lot of fun!

2024 (and 2023) absolutely FLEW BY with me juggling college and extracurriculars. I only made a few complete illustrations in the last two years 😅 However, I am happy to report that I now have a shiny Bachelor’s degree and the time to get back into drawing again!!

I scraped the bottom of the barrel to put together something akin to an art summary for this year (I broke my streak last year nooo). This year, my sister got me to watch Dungeon Meshi and Frieren, and the shows’ art styles inspired me a lot. Most of these pictures are close-ups of my many many incomplete illustrations (oops). The few that are complete with backgrounds were for non-personal projects, so it’s the first time I’m posting them. This collage is chronological but inconsistent, as most of these were drawn in July and December. I will be pushing myself to draw at least one thing each month in 2025 to build a proper art summary!!! 🫡

Young Maya has had enough of her boss and attempts to reason with her about quitting. Things don’t quite go as planned. Maya must now embark on a rather intense mission, but what does it entail?

And here is the next chapter! I apologize, this was not supposed to take nearly as long as it did!! The reason being that I redrew it a few times. The style wasn’t matching what I envisioned. But now that I have an idea of what I’m going for, the next few updates should go smoother. I still don’t think this is as nice as I wanted it to be, but if I keep holding back, I’ll never get this story out. xD

1. Art programs you have but don't use?

When I first started digital art, I used to go back and forth between Sketchbook and Krita. Krita is pretty good! But my computer doesn't like it, it would always slow down or crash :')

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw?

Oh there are so many TvT Skyward Sword Link is my blorbo but I have such a hard time drawing him. Breath of the Wild Zelda too.

No, not at all. Bringing food and drink around my devices makes me super nervous lol. Unless it's something I can eat in one go, like a single piece of chocolate xD

3. What ideas come from when you were little?

Ehehe I think the obvious one is The Legend of Zelda, which I've liked since I was eight! Surprisingly, I don't think I drew much fan art of it back then, but fantasy and elves have definitely always been in my art xD Also the comic that I'm trying to put out is greatly influenced by my childhood. Thinking about all those summers I spent at my grandparents' house when I was younger~

9. What are your file name conventions?

Okay so when I first started digital art, I'd name the files really random things like "yeahhh" or just unintelligible stuff 😂 One day, I got fed up and renamed everything, I just do "month-day-file name" and put it in a folder for that year. But I also forget to follow my own convention a lot 😭,,,

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways?

Ooh I really like illustrations with bold, black lineart and flat colors. Oh and lineless art!!! I used to do lineless/rendered art but I never figured out how to make it clean like people do :0
