Do Women Sexually Offend? The Answer is Sadly, YES. Women are Abused, and They Do Abuse Others, Sexually.
Do Women Sexually Offend? The Answer is Sadly, YES. Women are Abused, and They Do Abuse Others, Sexually.
by Staci Sprout, LICSW, CSAT
April 2019 news reports of #metoo stories from those sexually abused by nuns have evoked public shock and speculation about female sexual offending–is it possible? Is it real? Sadly, the answers are yes, and yes. Though they may be referred to as “invisible victims,” the hurt of victims of female sex offenders is all too real.
I recently was entrusted with the…

Treating Women with Cyber Romance, Cybersex and Pornography Addiction
Facilitated By: Staci Sprout, LICSW, CSAT Date: Friday, June 14, 2019 Time: 8:00am- 12:00pm PST
Who Should Attend: This class is for clinicians who are or will be working with female sex and love addicts, or with women who may be struggling with their cyber romance, cybersex, or pornography use. Description:  Navigating cybersexuality is a fact of modern life for all genders, and an increasing number of women – especially younger women — struggle to do so with clarity and integrity. It’s never been more important for clinicians to understand this new cultural landscape and the pressures faced by women in it. Lightened with humor and three heartwarming case studies with successful outcomes, this webinar will both inspire and equip you with effective, female-informed approaches to treatment planning and clinical care.
Objectives:
Participants will learn the definitions, overlap, and distinctions between cyber romance, cybersex, and pornography addiction that typically occur in women.
Participants will receive and comprehend how to use an assessment form to evaluate the presence and severity of compulsive cyber romance, cybersex, and pornography addiction that is tailored to the use patterns most commonly reported by women. This form may be adapted for participants’ specific practice and work with other populations.
Participants will understand three key methods to intervene when reported cyber romance, cybersex and pornography use has reached high-risk, abusive, or illegal levels.
Participants will receive practical treatment instruction via detailed clinical case studies of three women, from presenting problem, to “defining sobriety,” through treatment struggles, and concluding with stability/resolution.
Note: No sexually explicit imagery will be used in this presentation, though some descriptions of intense situations/behaviors will be included as part of the case studies.
This course has been approved by the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP, LLC), as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for educational credits.

Non-Verbal Skills for Dealing With Unwanted Staring (Theirs or Yours)
Non-Verbal Skills for Dealing With Unwanted Staring (Theirs or Yours)
Tumblr media
As a therapist who supports people to heal from sex and love addiction, I explore the visual objectification of others’ bodies, and its dangers, often in sessions. Both male and female clients work to stop this behavior, though it is stated as a problem far more frequently by men than women. Called “lustfully looking,” “objectifying,” “taking a second look” or “driving around the block” in the…

Verbal Incest Must Be Stopped: Here's How I Did it in My Family
Verbal Incest Must Be Stopped: Here’s How I Did it in My Family
I recently heard yet another family story of unconfronted verbal incest around the dinner table, and it reminded me of my own experience growing up in a home where my father, and occasionally my mother, repeatedly made sexually abusive comments to me and about me, or my sister. I am happy to say both my parents have now completely stopped making these kinds of comments, but before this change, I…

Talking with Rebecca Rosenblat about Love and Sex Addiction in Women
For this week's Sex Addiction in the News - I got to be interviewed on Canadian TV! What is female love and sex addiction, and how common is it? What are some differences between women and men afflicted? What has my recovery looked like? Is it worth the work? How have my family and husband reacted? What about other addictions - do they co-exist with sex and love? What is sex and love like for me these days in recovery?
I had a lovely time talking with Rebecca on her TV show "Sex with Rebecca" answering these questions and hearing her experiences.http://www.relationshipandsexuality.com/

Healing From Sexual Betrayal and Intimate Deception with Dr. SHERI KEFFER
How do you heal when you are betrayed and lied to by someone you thought was supposed to love you? Not everyone who cheats is a sex addict, though intimate deception is a classic symptom in sex addiction. Dr. Sheri Keffer offers expert advice from the heart of someone who has been betrayed and found her way to healing.
Some of my favorite moments from our talk were when she shared her powerful personal ritual to honor how she healed as a partner of a sex addict who did NOT get into recovery, and a beautiful story of a couple's ritual who DID heal, how they celebrated that. Dr. Keffer's research offers the latest statistics on how betrayed partners really feel about the codependency model, how many go on to develop PTSD after betrayal, and how many already had trauma from childhood. Personal story and research-based facts: the best of whole-brain learning!
