Darklina to the core or ... The real reason for the passion for a certain storyline

First of all ... the good thing is that the majority of society is able to distinguish between good and bad. We learn that early on.

I don't close my eyes to reality. There are terrible people in this world. There are people who have had faced or currently face terrible situations. There is good stuff happening in this world as well as great people do exist. But sure as hell there are no perfect ones.

I am shipping Darklina. I have my reasons. They are my own individual and personal reasons and I am looking for answers.

You can find answers everywhere. From advice, a sight, an experience ... I know Darklina is a damn toxic relationship. This was shown to us with a sledgehammer. Aleksander did Alina dirty. No doubt on that. I’m not excusing such behaviour and such actions in any way in real life.

The good news is ... Darklina is not reality. It's fiction, and the thing about fiction and stories is that they have a purpose. They give answers. They remind us of things. They show us dreams, hopes and wishes. They teach us something. They contain a message. Their goal is to explain to us in a simple but often exaggerated way how we can or should deal with things in our real world.

Critical voices could now say: "Then why are you shipping Darklina? Is the lesson not clear? No chance for abusers!"

Yes, you are right. That is a lesson to be learned from it. But it's A lesson. Not the only lesson.

See, we humans are all so very, very different. We are different because we all go different ways. We have different legacies, different experiences. We have different ambitions, different demons, different passions, desires and hopes. We all have different lessons to learn.

What about the lesson of never giving up? The lesson of how much is too much to reach your goals? What about the lesson of change? Is there a way to get out of the dark or is bad bad and will stay bad forever? Do you remain a monster with no hope? Is it worth fighting your demons, experiences, your past? What about the lesson in true forgiveness? (I recommend everyone look up the word "forgiveness" and what it means.)

There are real people in this world who ask such questions. Are they not allowed to ask these questions or find answers because the moral compass of our society forbids it to only whispering about our moral gray traits? Does the morally perfect society ignore the fact that different people face different problems that this perfect society cannot understand at all?

As different as the people, as different are the lessons and as different are the motivations and preferences.

But back to Darklina AND definitely ... we mustn't forget ... It's a story! It's an exaggerated fiction that I'm talking about.

In order to be able to learn something from it we have to turn the story of Aleksander and Alina into reality by removing all magical things, the war situation, the killer vipes and the hunger for power to reduce the story events to its core. (Just for your information, the point is not to downplay a problem, but to make it more understandable.)

When all of this is gone, we have a man who wants to achieve a goal by taking advantage of a woman's talent.

Let's create a new story based on this core. Just an example ...

How about a story where a boss wants to win a project. He sees the potential of a woman in his company and asks her for help. They get closer as they work together, but the boss is a stupid workaholic who has worked toward his goal all his life. So far he has been alone for a very long time. He doesn't know how to trust someone and the relationship with this woman is new. Maybe it is too new and his newly awakened feelings are frightening him. He is afraid and sees his reputation threatened by this woman's talent and steals that mutual successes of a presentation and presents it as his own.

The woman is hurt and it sure means that she was abused by her boss too. It's exactly the same gist as Alinas and Aleksanders in Shadow and Bone, but turned into a more realistic and more minor incident. Something that can definitely happen in reality.

Now we talk about what someone sees in Darklina. Does this new story still evoke exactly the same negative and dramatic feelings in you as in the original story? No, or?

That's because there's a certain familiarity in this story. It could be true and it could be something that can actually happen to anyone.It's realistic. It's still bad. No question. Still a shitty situation, but it isn't tainted with urealistic cruelty and there is a good chance of finding a good and realistic solution without killing anyone. It's something a random person is able to deal with in real life.

It’s the core of a story that draws us in and not… (well…not only) the obvious sexiness and chemistry of a protagonist.

Most of the time what draws us in reflects something that is within us. Be it guilt or hope. Be it wish or reality. For fun or for distraction. The end of a story could be an answer to a question or food for thought for someone who has an inner question to deal with.

The woman might either find a good lawyer to help her or she will move heaven and earth to convince her boss to change his behavior.

Different endings, different paths, different motivations, different lessons.

And, depending on your inner needs, you have chosen which of them you like best.

Some Malinas might look for the handsome boyfriend to help Alina gain inner peace and find sweet love. Maybe these people are craving a healthy relationship or they just enjoy the fluffy stuff. It is absolutely valid. I'm happy for them. Enjoy your trip!

But that's not it for everyone. Darklinas may see a different message. They hope for something else. They have different needs. They enjoy other things. What is also valid.

There is nothing wrong with showing interest in Darklina's plot because nobody but you knows what you can get out of this story for your personal growth because nobody but you knows what your life lessons are.

It is up to you which way you go. Which story you prefer, what lesson you need or want to learn. What your wishes are or what your hopes. It's individual. It's personal. It's different for everyone.

So if you take the story down to the core, it will be easier to identify a message and that will help you find your answers.

Unfortunately, the problems with stories is that you will never know which route the writers will choose. You won't know the end until it ends. You can only stick with it until the story tells you that you won't find your answer in it. You have to wait and hope that the story gives you what you are looking for. Either you are the lucky one or you are the one who remains unsatisfied. Then you haven't found your answer yet.

However, it's important to always remember that at some point, somehow, somewhere you will find your answers. You just have to keep looking.

Until then, enjoy the things that make you happy!

And in my case, it's only to watch Ben Barnes look delicious!

Just kidding ... it's the hope of a good ending to a person stuck in a dark place trying to find their way back into the light.

As far as I can tell, that's the smartest post I've ever read about this topic! Bravo!!!

Sorry I know that might be annoying for you... I have seen the ‘non-romantic soulmates’ interviews, which is true right now.... but did JR ever say that Bellarke is not happening???? After S5????

I did see the non-romantic soulmates interview. And actually I believe it was the non romantic PARTNERS and soulmates. Or maybe there was another one where he said non romantic soulmates. I think that was the first one and then he switched it to non-romantic partners and soulmates.

Yes. I remember. Because the first time I thought he said “platonic’ but when I double checked the quote (because I like to double check the evidence even when I am doing my own interpretations) I realized it was “non-romantic.”

But no.

JR never said that Bellarke was not happening. In season 3 he said it wasn’t happening “NOW.” That he had other stories he wanted to tell first. IN season 4 he didn’t say much of anything. After season 4, he started calling Bellarke soulmates and the story of the show, and never once again said Bellarke wasn’t happening, as far as I can tell. I check his twitter regularly and I think I got all his interviews. He might have said some things before season 3, but since I came to fandom in s3, I’ve been checking. Because the CLs kept saying we were delusional and JR said it wouldn’t happen, so whenever they said he said that, I’d run over and examine what he did say. A lot of ambiguous stuff that could be read multiple ways, but nothing that said definitively Bellarke was not happening. Ever.

In fact, after season 4, he said The 100 was about Clarke and her relationship with Bellamy. Which, considering how often they told us it was about L or CL and Bellamy was the bad guy and we were delusional to think it was about Bellarke, was kind of vindication for Bellarke. He said that Clarke and Bellamy were the backbone of the show. He said they were soulmates. And he said that he wasn’t going to spoil the story and tell anyone what was going to happen with Bellarke.

If he refused to tell people what he decided, then how are people interpreting that to be him saying Bellarke is not happening.

He did say that he liked Bellarke the way they were, together and aligned and going in the same direction. Some people thought that meant that he ONLY liked them like that, but it sounds to me like he likes the story he’s telling. And I think he’s allowed to say that.

I have seen NO evidence that he’s said Bellarke is not happening. 

There was some gossip a while back where someone said that “someone” who would know said the writer’s room doesn’t argue about whether or not they are doing Bellarke, because they’ve made their decision.

Which is good in my opinion, considering that season 5 had a canon love triangle, 2199 calls, Octavia saying that Clarke was another traitor who Bellamy loved, and FlameLxa telling Clarke not to make the same mistake she made in betraying her canon love interest. Because that says to me that they are currently engaged in the canon romance that we are watching on screen, one that is a slow burn and has obstacles, one with canon romantic feelings. 

I know that some people think that because Bellamy is with Echo, that means the “decision” that has been made is to not do Bellarke…. but that makes NO narrative sense considering you can’t have a love triangle with out THREE people involved, which would make B/E romantic. and ALSO B/C romantic. How can they be using that second/third hand statement of the writer’s room already deciding as confirmation that they are NOT to do canon bellarke romance, when the decision ON SCREEN shows a romantic love triangle. THAT means that if they MADE a decision, they decided to do it romantic. 

I mean, there could have been a possibility that the decision was to NOT make them endgame. But PLATONIC? no. That’s already off the table. You cannot be platonic if there are romantic feelings as there were in canon. 

And also, with JRs statement that Clarke and Bellamy are SOULMATES, and then the narrative spending 10 times as much time with the Bellarke relationship than the B/E one, developing CLARKE’S loneliness in a STUNNING season intro, and then leaving the B/E relationship development to a couple of minutes of “nothing is going to change….” I mean. Come on, guys. You can put the pieces together, right?

I dont’ have to explain to you the WEIGHT given Bellarke that is not given to B/E? You can’t FEEL the romance building with Bellarke?

Unpopular Opinion – I Loved Season 5 Bellarke

*Many apologies for grammar and spelling mistakes, English is not my first language*

I am writing this as I am at a point where I have to write all my Bellarke thoughts down to clear my mind … I have too many LOL!!! So, if there is anyone reading this … Very Sorry … I wrote this over a few weeks, it is super long and could be all over the place!!

I Love The 100 in its entirety and all the characters, but this post is all Bellarke.

First of all, thank you so very much and much love to the wonderful Tumblr blogs who are ‘The 100-Positive’ (special shout-out to @sometimesrosy & @katersann  - please don’t feel obligated to read this, I just want to say thank you, I really appreciate your blogs.). I actually only joined Tumblr after the finale because I could no longer be part of the Bellarke Twitter fandom. I understand that a person has a right to be frustrated with a tv show and its direction, but I DO NOT understand the backlash and that frustration being spiteful and cruel to other members of the fandom and toward individuals involved with the show. But I am really not here to delve into that whole mess and I do not feel, as a human being, I have a right to judge or criticize anyone.

I am not a Shipper type of person. Bellarke are the only tv/movie duo that make me feel so many things and I have been shipping them romantically and loving them as individual characters and non-romantic partners since Season 1. I liked C/L and I like B/E and I think those relationships bring a lot to Bellamy and Clarke individually and together. Of course, I would have loved The Kiss in Season 5, but we didn’t get it, and we have to respect and empathize with the choices made, with the direction of the story and with every single character. And now, I truly understand and appreciate Season 5.

Bellamy and Clarke are the beating heart, soul mates of The 100. This is how they are described by the showrunner and as a devotee of the show as a whole, I truly believe they are. This has been represented and developed on our screens since their relationship as partners began, and Season 5 further emphasized that. Personally, I feel their relationship and the meaning of their relationship developed further, I really don’t feel it has regressed.

I mean, look, you never know, Season 6 might take us a down different route and I could be completely wrong. But after 5x13, in my personal opinion, the current Bellarke destination is Romantic Love.

End of Season 4, going into Season 5:

Impactful and deep Bellarke moments in S4 and ultimately in 4x13, that to me, confirmed that they both have romantic feelings for each other … but of course, beautiful Bellarke angst inevitably follows, with Clarke sacrificing herself and Bellamy sacrificing that love to be the man that Clarke has always believed him to be.

BUT also, at this point I do think they are still unsure/unaware of each other’s feelings. Bellamy knew Clarke had a relationship with L and in S4 with Niylah, and Clarke has always been reticent about the meaning of her feelings with Bellamy, the whole ‘love is weakness’ and of course they had the End of the World to think about lol … again our beautiful Bellarke angst. But 4x13 leaves the Romantic door open. (I mean, the ‘cold sweat’ moment! An excuse to caress her face, and the way she looks at him when she lifts her eyes up to him!!)

Clarke had survived Praimfaya. We had seen her alive and well 2199 days after and we found out that she was alone on Earth with Madi. Space crew hadn’t come down, and she had been unable to open the bunker.  

From Tasya being a regular cast member to hints in S4 (and even back further), it was essentially obvious that there would be a Bellamy/E relationship coming into S5.

We knew from interviews that Clarke’s priority would be Madi, and that Bellamy would have his family Spacekru, and that there would be conflict there. So I really don’t see how some are surprised, we were told this many times in the lead-up interviews.

But above all, we knew that Clarke had been talking to Bellamy EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR 6 YEARS. 

Before I start with Season 5, my thoughts on the radio calls …

Again, Clarke talked to Bellamy every single day for 6 years and 7 days. She talked to him rain, hail or shine, through her very worst and her best days.

I imagine that Clarke, after her very difficult first months after Praimfaya, and after meeting Madi, built a peaceful and loving home in Shallow Valley. But she still needed and wanted to talk to Bellamy every single day. What did Bellamy bring to Clarke during those 6 years, Strength, Comfort, Hope, Truth…?

Can you imagine Clarke, not even knowing that Bellamy was still alive, but always hoping that he would be coming back down to her. During the fifth year on Earth, that waiting, that excitement, then that disappointment, and even heartbreak knowing that He might never come back to Her. But she never gave up on him. She always had hope that he would come back to her. I think when we see Clarke at the 6 Years 7 Days mark, she is more dispirited than she would have been in the first 5 years, but she still needs to talk to Bellamy, have that connection with him and hold onto that hope. 

Clarke had time to think and properly mourn her past relationships. I think that she was ready to open up herself to Love and finally accepted within herself that she was in Love with Bellamy. 

I know these comparisons are tired but seriously …Noah wrote to Allie every day for a year in The Notebook = Romantic. Mike calling Eleven every night for a year in Stranger Things = Romantic. Clarke talking to Bellamy every day for 6 years… would have to = Romantic.

That complete devotion to him and his memory and what he brings to her emotionally and subconsciously is hard to define. Bellamy and Clarke, what they are to each other and what they mean to each other is hard to define. But I think it is transcending, deep, true, Love.

Season 5:

This season brought us so many beautiful Bellarke moments and development, and I am so exasperated that they are continually dismissed by part of the fandom. Sometimes I feel like we were watching completely different shows. Also, we have to remember that it was 6 years later, fast-paced, and took place over a short period of time, at most 3 weeks.

5x01:

Clarke talking to Bellamy on the Radio since Day 1. Now, we don’t hear her say his name, so it can be left to interpretation who she is talking to. But it is obvious after 4x13 and for true fans of the show that she is talking to Bellamy. In the wording used and her facial expressions, especially the heartbreaking ‘if this is the last time… I just want to say …’ Clarke more than likely also ‘talked’ to Raven, Monty and Murphy, but it was confirmed in 5x13 that it was Bellamy she spoke to everyday.

Mama Bear Clarke – coming into the season, we knew that Madi would be Clarke’s priority and in this episode we saw her nurturing side, and how protective she is of Madi.  

Then there’s that lovely fireside chat with Madi, which ends with her looking up to the starlit sky and next shot… Bellamy looking down to Earth. Always that connection. 

Bellamy thinks Clarke is dead. And no surprise for me at all, he is in a relationship with Echo. We learn that it took him 3 years to forgive her. I don’t think that means he ignored her for the first three years. I think that Bellamy, the good man that he is, developed a cordial relationship for the sake of the group and included her. And he saw her develop into the person that he later falls in love with (and I think he was a big part in that development).

That the B/E romance and development was off-screen does not bother me at all. Because as viewers, I feel we aren’t supposed to connect with them as a couple, and I am more than happy with that. And am also very happy that there wasn’t a Bellamy/Raven romance. The choice to have B/E instead of B/R covers many aspects, but in relation to Bellarke it is positive. If they had decided on B/R, then to me there would be no hope for B/C. They couldn’t have another ‘love triangle’ between Clarke and Raven as that was already done in Season 1 with Finn.

Bellamy’s conversation with Echo foreshadows the Bellamy/Octavia reunion but above all Bellamy/Clarke reunion, ‘Nothing will change on the ground’ and ‘Octavia will be the least of our problems …’

BUT definitely confirming Bellamy and E are in a loving and canon relationship.

5x03:

Bellamy’s references to Clarke show us that her last words to him have continually guided him, and he has lived up to her and cherished her memory for 6 years. We see his heart break when he says to Raven ‘I left Clarke behind to die, and I’m not doing that again.’ And Raven then lying to Bellamy to stay onboard, because she knows and saw what he went through after losing Clarke.  

Bellamy being more composed and calmer, thinking things through, the born leader. For me, this foreshadowed his S5 character arc, aka ‘Head Bellamy’

Clarke doing everything to protect Madi, and the absolute fear at the thought of losing her.  Again, foreshadowing Clarke’s arc, aka ‘Heart Clarke’

Madi instantly recognizing Bellamy first and the ‘Clarke knew you would come’. The number of times Clarke drew him (I know, head canon, but more than likely…?), talked about him, talked to him. Clarke’s never-ending faith in Bellamy, Madi recognizing Bellamy first and his reaction…so many emotions.

The rover driving up to Clarke, Clarke saying ‘Madi, no’, Bellamy seeing Clarke, saying ‘Madi, no’ and telling her to stay in the car, him getting out of the car, the lights are blinding Clarke she can’t see who is walking towards her, he speaks, her face as she recognizes his voice, the ‘best dad in the universe’ mug, him putting up his fist as signal to Madi, ‘283 lives for one, she must be pretty important to you.’, ‘SHE IS’.

The entire episode leads us to the epic final scene. The Bellamy and Clarke reunion was objectively the most anticipated and it was soooooooo amazingly well done.

Bellamy is the Hero, Clarke is the hero. They are each other’s heroes.

5x04:

The most Intimate and soft reunion. Clarke is still in pain and in total shock that Bellamy is alive, and Bellamy in total awe that Clarke is alive. Bellamy ‘you saved us all’ and Clarke ‘and now you are home’. They never had a ‘home’ when they were on Earth together. For Clarke to overtly say that, has so much meaning, I don’t think she would ever have said that before. But 6 years of thinking about Bellamy, and the shock of having him in front of her, he is finally with her. Definition of ‘Home is where the heart is’: Your home will always be the place for which you feel the deepest affection, no matter where you are.

The way they hold each other and keep holding each other, Clarke wearing a singlet so Bellamy is touching her skin, the way they look at each other. So beautiful and sensual.

Hostage taker and his girlfriend. Diyoza saying that is obviously to point out that Bellamy’s actions and Clarke’s reactions in 503 could be deduced as romantic.

The way they effortlessly slip back into partnership mode, the non-verbal communication, and Clarke picking up straight away on Octavia/Bellamy tension … after 6 years they still are so in tune with each other.

5x05:

Bellarke Partnership is back. We see Bellamy including Clarke and relying on her. And then trying to get her to open up by the campfire, which led to a gorgeously awkward and significant moment of Clarke not telling Bellamy that Madi AND talking to him every day helped her survive. Her not telling him, as an audience, we understand that the radio calls are of even more significance than they already were. And I guess there may be different views of the reason why she didn’t tell him, but really … if she wasn’t in love with him, there would be no awkwardness and she would freely tell him.

Heart and Head scene – which has copped criticism, but I loved it. Because Clarke, after all this time, continues to read Bellamy so well and reassures him. By saying “heart and head” she is also reassuring herself, that he remembers their last conversation 6 years ago.

A lot of the S5 criticism from fans was that Clarke seemed to be cast out of the group dynamics and was a shadow of her former self. But to me, Clarke being reserved and taking a step back made perfect sense. She was alone with Madi for 6 years and then in the space of one day her whole world was drastically changed, and she was understandably overwhelmed.

Clarke *heart-eyes* to Bellamy is just so beautiful, and it was a so consistent throughout the season. She had been talking to him for 6 years, hoping for him to come back to her. And he does come back to her, but he is changed. He is more Head, wiser, responsible, a thinker. The man she loves is more than she ever dreamed him to be.  And that, logically, takes her a bit of time to adjust to.

Then at end of episode, Bellamy is reunited with Spacekru, and kisses E. Camera immediately focuses on Clarke’s reaction. Now, again different interpretations … just to let audience know that now Clarke and O know? But I think their expressions are important, with both of them it is shock/confusion, followed by anger for O, and heartbreak for Clarke. And her facial reactions are similar in Season 1 when she sees Finn and Raven being intimate. This to me confirmed once again Clarke’s feelings for Bellamy are not platonic. 

5x06:

I believe Clarke’s behavior towards Bellamy changes after seeing him with E. I don’t know if “distances herself” is the right phrasing, but I do feel that she seems to put up a wall and becomes primarily focused on Madi. Eg. when he approaches Clarke about O, she dismisses him and goes to look after Madi. And usually, Clarke is always there as his sounding board, so we do see a look of surprise on his part.

Clarke also says to Niylah “everything is so different now”. And says admiringly “that was Bellamy” when Niylah thanks her for saving their lives. But she does look sad in that scene. Things have changed, nothing is what she imagined they would be. And the biggest change that we see in canon is that Bellamy is in a relationship with E.

On the surface, the episode is focused on the Bellamy, E and O triangle tension. But Clarke is ever present. At end of the B/E love scene, the next scene cuts to Clarke packing her things to leave and the same background scene is playing which to me means the we are meant to link those 2 scenes together. I know Clarke leaving is to protect Madi from O, but she realizes that it has been 6 years, Bellamy has his own priorities now, their relationship is different, and he is in a relationship with E. When she sees them kiss, we see that she is heartbroken.  

But Bellamy does care for her as he did 6 years ago. It has only been a few days, at most 5?, since he has found out Clarke is alive, and I do believe, with everything that’s been happening, he hasn’t truly processed that fact. So when Clarke comes to him, and tells him that she is leaving with Madi, the confusion and distress on his face is clear, he just assumed that Clarke would never leave his side. Then he follows her to find Madi, and when someone starts shooting at the defectors he continues to follow Clarke. His basic instinct continues to be to follow Clarke.

5x07:

They slip back into partnership trying to find solutions. Clarke getting more and more anxious about Madi, and the influence O has on her. And Bellamy, being quite stressed wanting to protect his loved ones in Shadow Valley and his loved ones in Polis.

Heart wrenching moment hearing Jasper’s letter, and Monty’s plea to not start a war. We can really see Bellamy and Clarke struggling with it, but they are running out of time and solutions.

Clarke reaching breaking point, radioing Diyoza, maintaining eye contact with Bellamy, and proposing to ‘break the cycle’. Bellamy knows what she is implying, and Clarke knows that he will not react well. We know that season will bring so much conflict to Bellamy, in regard to his relationships with O, Clarke and Skaikru.

So much eye contact between Bellamy and Clarke throughout episode, to check how the other is reacting to things, how they are feeling… And cute moment with “real diplomatic”.

5x08:

Bellamy being extremely firm, killing/hurting O is completely out of the question, even it means they could have peace. Clarke knows that Bellamy would never hurt O, but Clarke has Madi now and is willing to do anything to protect her. They decide to kill Cooper. They are both struggling with that, but they do it together and support one another. When Monty says ‘why don’t you kill O’, Clarke doesn’t say anything because she understands Bellamy’s inner battle.

Clarke ‘Heart-eyes-to Bellamy’ Griffin apologizing to Bellamy and Bellamy trying to ease her discomfort by making her smile with ‘Mama Bear’. He does understand her doing everything to protect Madi, as he has always done everything to protect his sister. Then angst, with Clarke being ‘arrested’ and making Bellamy promise to take care of Madi.

Now, there are many different opinions, but I think that Bellamy loving Clarke has been a gradual evolution over the seasons. AND NOW WE HAVE IT IN CANON!! He comes in to talk to O and the first thing he says is “I can’t let you kill Clarke O”. Pause. She leans back, sighing, ‘Here we go again … pleading for the life of a traitor, who you love” She looks up at him waiting for his reaction. He knows she is baiting him and doesn’t respond to it, but you can see that it affects him. (and I think O arresting Clarke on her own, she might also have been testing Bellamy’s reaction, waiting to see what he would do, where his loyalties lie. And maybe also testing how he now felt for Clarke after the 6 years? I think I read too much into things sometimes!)

O has just compared his love for E, with who he is in a romantic relationship, to his love for Clarke. Meaning that O believes Bellamy is in love with Clarke. O is someone very observant and I think she has always noted the blind devotion Bellamy has for Clarke. And in S5, after 6 years apart, she see that his devotion has never wavered. And it is so interesting that both O and Clarke see and have mentioned to him (O more so indirectly) what the other means to him. But this time, Bellamy chooses Clarke over O. Now, of course Bellamy is also doing it for the ‘greater good’, for peace, for his friends, but throughout ep 7 and 8, Clarke and Monty both brought up killing/hurting O, and he would firmly dismiss it. Clarke being sentenced to death is his tipping point. Clarke, who he left behind, who he has mourned for 6 years, who he has just got back, who he has always loved. No, he can’t let that happen.

5x09:

Bellamy takes Madi to see Clarke, and it is a really special moment between them. Bellamy tells Clarke that he poisoned O and Clarke reassures him that she will be ok and that he did the right thing. She says, ‘she was willing to destroy the last survivable land on Earth, not to mention kill the people we love.’ And then Bellamy has an adorable awkward look on his face, because he would be thinking back to ‘traitor who you love’. He doesn’t mention to her that he also did it for her specifically, which means that it is very significant. Then Bellamy says ‘Together’ and Clarke’s face lights up and she says ‘Together’ back. I really loved that callback, because I think ‘Together’ really embodies their relationship. And Clarke really needed to hear it I think.

Bellamy: Telling Clarke about the chip and Madi, starts a fight between them. We see Clarke’s absolute anger that Bellamy would even consider this. But Head Bellamy is back and lets her know that he has his ‘family’ to think of. This scene parallels 4x11, where Clarke locked Bellamy up to stop him from opening the door and saving O. Bellamy and Indra let Madi decide for herself and does tell her that Clarke doesn’t approve, but when he says that this will save Clarke she agrees. Madi also tells Bellamy ‘If you do this, Clarke will never forgive you’. It is like she gives him a warning because she knows how much Bellamy means to Clarke and this betrayal will break her heart. And Madi also knows how much Clarke means to Bellamy and gives him a breath to rethink the chip. She knows that this will change everything between them. He knows this too, but is willing to risk that, for the greater good, for her life. I think that deep down, he also thinks that Clarke will forgive him. She will eventually understand his choice. Forgiveness is their thing, it is what they do, to reassure each other, to relieve each other of their burdens. They will get through this, as they always do. So his face after her slap and as she walks away ….. ugh our beautiful Bellarke angst.

Clarke: Her actions were completely taken over by her heart. Her child’s life was at risk and she acted rash and everything she did was to protect Madi. She couldn’t rationally listen to Bellamy, and when he mentioned his ‘family’ I think she became resolute and her only thought was Madi. Especially after he said the iconic ‘Together’ in the earlier scene, which adds to her heartbreak. When she walks in and sees Madi unconscious and looks at Bellamy, her whole face shows her devastation. The slap and her leaving him behind, is because the man she talked to every day, the man she thinks so highly of, the man she loves ‘betrayed’ her, broke her heart.

And I don’t think they were OOC. And comments “that’s not my Bellamy/Clarke”, with how their characters have been redefined and their development over the 6 years, they made complete sense to me and I understood their actions. 

5x10 – 5x12:

These episodes showed the separate but similar journeys they needed to take. They both have their own personal issues to resolve, before coming back together in the finale.

Bellamy: He tries many times to reason with O but we also see that he isn’t let her get away with things anymore. His journey is to come to terms that his sister has changed and that he can’t be the one who continues to sacrifice himself, his happiness, his well-being for her. He continues to fight for ‘the greater good’, for peace, for his loved ones. He is the man Clarke always knew he could be.

Clarke: Her journey is to accept that Madi is her own person, and that she has to ‘let her go’ in the metaphorical sense, and she needed to be the one to help and resolve Abby’s demons. There was a lot of backlash about Clarke, in these episodes. I understood Heart Momma Bear Clarke. I think that after leaving Bellamy behind to die, which she did for Madi, she desperately had to continue doing everything, right or wrong, to protect Madi. As she says to Madi in 5x12, “I don’t need ghosts telling me what I lost to protect you Madi.” She was internally dealing with what she had done and she couldn’t let herself breakdown about leaving Bellamy.  

And the scene with E was really beautiful. Sorry E, lol trying not to turn every scene into a Bellarke scene but it was, wasn’t it? Clarke finding out Bellamy was alive, catching her tears, “I always cared” “He put the flame in Madi’s head”. (side note: Clarke telling E “you were good for him” … Which she is, but Clarke is still not aware the extent of how her ‘death’ impacted Bellamy’s development)

And Commander Madi, telling Clarke that L’s biggest regret was leaving Clarke at Mount Weather. L who canon Loved Clarke, telling Clarke not to make the same mistake she did. Which is leaving Bellamy to die. So, comparing L’s love for Clarke, with Clarke’s love for Bellamy. And then ‘Go save him’, not them, him, Bellamy. Finally accepting that she has to let Madi go, and Bellamy is her tipping point, like Clarke was Bellamy’s in 5x08.

And I appreciate the continuation of the memory of L, she was a very important part of Clarke, and it was beautiful that she was the one reminding Clarke of her love for Bellamy.

5x13:

After letting Madi go, Hero Clarke steps up, is rational and is doing everything to save her friends.

Hero Bellamy inspiring and getting through to Madi, again being the man that Clarke wanted him to be, knew he could be. And we see Clarke *awkward-heart-eyes* Griffin when Madi tells him it was him that motivated her to save the prisoners.

Speaking of awkward… This is the first time they see each other since the ‘betrayals’. And the awkward eye contact is Everything.

Clarke at drop ship door, Bellamy a few meters in front. Madi noticing Clarke looking at him and deciding to take action. ‘You have to forgive her’, no need to mention Clarke’s name, and cranky Bellamy saying ‘now is not the time’, and Madi ‘do you know how much she Cares about you’, and Bellamy ‘so much she left me to die in the fighting pits’… ‘That was different’. This is SO important and SO complicated. Of course Bellamy understood Clarke. Bellamy always had O as his responsibility, his number one priority, the person he would place above everyone else.

So what is different? There could be different perspectives, I don’t think Bellamy really knows or is willing to admit to himself why it is different. But I think, Bellamy was hurt. He thought Clarke no longer cared about him. He thought once again, that she had left Him. She let him go to Mt Weather in 2x09, she left him in 2x16, she stayed in Polis in 3x03, she left again in 3x05, she was willing to let O die in 4x11, and she ‘died’ in 4x13. And 6 years later, she did it again. It isn’t that she saved Madi. He gets that. He is upset because once again, he thinks his feelings for her are one-sided, that he means nothing to her. Which is why …

When Madi tells him about the radio calls, this changes everything. Clarke talked to him every single day for 6 years. This hits him like a ton of bricks. He really wasn’t expecting it. Finally, he realizes that he does mean Something to Clarke. What exactly Something is, is to be figured out. But that is the turning point, and after that revelation his demeanor completely changes. This is head canon, but on the ring, I think Bellamy thought of Clarke every day. And we know the influence she had on him. At last, Bellamy now knows he is important to her.

Side note: for Madi to say ‘I shouldn’t be telling you this’ also has a lot of meaning. Why shouldn’t she? Clarke should be the one, Madi knows this. So why isn’t Clarke? Basically, I think the calls mean more than a simple friendship, and Clarke doesn’t feel she has the right to tell him knowing he is in a relationship, and she doesn’t think he feels the same way.

Bellamy heroically outside the dropship, waiting for his friends. He is not leaving without them. And he tells Clarke, looking straight at her, ‘I can’t do that again’. Finally, she has a glimpse at the deep pain he felt for leaving her behind. And Clarke not closing the door on him/them. I really don’t think she could have, but maybe I am wrong.

Bellamy walking around the dropship looking for Clarke, finding her. We see Clarke’s relief that he is next to her, talking to her. They discuss vital matters, and we can see the gorgeous awkwardness, the underlying, unspoken matters that they will need to discuss at some point. But when Bellamy invites her to the bridge meeting, she is brave and brings up leaving him in Polis. “The commander ordered me not to be” which isn’t a lie, but he doesn’t mention the calls. And as Clarke turns away, we see him hesitate. He wants to say something, but stops himself. Meaning that it should most definitely be brought up in Season 6.

Again, the continuing understanding they have of one another with just a look as Clarke watches Bellamy talking to O before going into Kryosleep.

Clarke waking up, then Bellamy, and the soft ‘hey’. The importance of Monty and Harper choosing them and entrusting them with their message. Monty knows that they are their best together, and are the leaders the people need. Bellamy pulling Clarke into his side, crying, looking at the new planet, TOGETHER. The most heartbreaking and beautiful scene of the entire show for me. As devastating as it was that Monty and Harper are no longer with us, it was so magnificent knowing that they had a child together and the peaceful life they merited, and it made sense with their characters journey and arc.

In conclusion, I loved Bellarke’s journey and development in Season 5. I understood them. (well I think I did anyway lol)

Clarke only had interaction with Madi for 6 years, was talking to Bellamy on the radio, and longing for him to return. Then suddenly having her world completely thrown, not what she had envisioned, it was justified that she held back and was cautious when it came to her relationships. Everything was different. She had to rediscover herself, and next season I think we will see her mend herself and those relationships. I agree that Season 5 lacked interaction between Clarke and Raven/Murphy/Abby etc., but I really do think it made sense to the story, and I can’t wait to see those interactions in season 6. 

Bellamy, living by Clarke’s words and her memory. Being the man she always knew he could be. Opening his heart up further, having moved on with E, and being happy with his now extended family. And then him having his world completely thrown as well with Clarke being alive and O being Bloodreina. He also had to rediscover himself, but in the end feeling ‘complete’ surrounded by loved ones. I think S6, we will see him living by Monty’s words and striving/continuing to be the Good Guy.

We also learnt that no distance or time can change the fact that Bellamy and Clarke are Soulmates (non-romantic atm, which is true). Ultimately, they found each other again, and forgave each other as they always do. They have an inexplicable pull towards each other, they need each other. They are not aware that they are each other’s Soulmate or can define the significance of their Relationship. He completes her, she completes him. They complete each other. Gaaaahhhhh they are just so clueless, I love them so much. 

But we are getting there! After Season 5, going into Season 6, I think we have more Bellarke-romantic content than we have ever had. Over the seasons we have had varying versions of how they feel about each other, but as always with them, it is primarily through others: Trust, Care, Believe, Worry, Care, We can’t lose Clarke, Too bad you were Never that Devoted to Gina, Start with Bellamy Blake, Centres, You got it backwards, Bellamy among them, She is, Care, Go Save Him, Cares…

But now we have another step further with (indirectly again): the radio calls, Traitor Who You Love, and She doesn’t want You to make the Same Mistake. (and I have to say, also the longing and deep way they look at each other, and Clarke’s reactions to the B/E kisses)

We now know that Bellamy Loves Clarke, and Clarke Loves Bellamy. But of course, Bellamy doesn’t know that Clarke Loves him (but maybe has a super tiny inkling with the radio calls I really don’t know, well at least that she really cares for him) and Clarke definitely doesn’t know that Bellamy Loves her. She sees him in love with E, so S6 will very interesting with how they will approach our Love Triangle. I think Bellarke might continue to slow burn, but I am so happy with where they are right now.

So phew, anyway, I still have hope and am so excited for the next season!!!!!!!

Brave Bellarke Fanfiction Beta-Readers Wanted

please be patient with me...

I want to try something and hope for honest feedback.

Below you can read a small excerpt from an older bellarke fanfiction I wrote when the Season 5 trailer was released.

At that time I hoped that Diyoza would bring Clarke into space where Bellamy would release her from a Cryopod. (Snow White-like)

But that's not what I'm all about.

English is a foreign language for me and what I write in my native language I really would like to share with you guys too.

So far, I have not been able to find anyone who could help me so I've decided to try to translate my stories myself.

What I am asking you now is to give me an honest answer as to whether my leisurely translation is reasonably acceptable and whether you think it is worth the elaborate work.

So... I’m a bit nervous.😬

Be brave, be nice and have fun!

A dull rumble abruptly forced Bellamy out of this magical moment. The door got opened. He reacted immediately. In a flash, he swung himself to Clarke into the cryopod and hastily closed the lid. It was dim, tight and stuffy.

Tense and silent, he listened to the sounds coming from outside. He peered into the corridor but he could not see anything. His pulse was racing. Clarkes not otherwise. He clearly felt her raging heartbeat on his chest. Her impetuous breath on his neck, which triggered a gentle tingle on his skin. He had to make sure she was okay. He let his gaze wander to her. Bellamy's heart threatened to shatter. Not a hands breadth the tip of his nose was away from hers. Their eyes met intently. Clarke cried silently and held him convulsively; almost painfully by the arms. As if she was afraid he could dissolve again any moment. He could read disbelief in her eyes, surprise and joy. He lost himself in her bright blue eyes. Bellamy felt the wild throb of both of them. Heart on Heart in rhythmic unity. Everything around him had blown away.

That they were in mortal danger here suddenly vanished into nothingness. Six years he lived thinking that she was dead and now she was here. He could see, smell and feel her. So close to him.

It was only a blink of her eyelashes that unleashed the spark and let the dam to his hidden feelings burst. "Oh, god damn..."

Unable to withstand the flood of emotions, he surrendered to the overwhelming need that he had been denied for so long.

His lips went violently down on hers. Impassioned, they forced them apart. His tongue pushed forward fervently. A shower of pleasant excitement, of happiness and desperate desire flowed through his whole body. Tears of redemption rippled in him. He was shaking inside. Starving, he devoured her sweetness. Her taste. Her. Completely. He just gave himself up to his desire. His mind was powerless. He could not stop tasting her. Nothing could stop him. Even if that meant it would them both get killed right now. This kiss was worth dying under.

That’s it. I hope it wasn’t as horrible as think.

Welcome Ball

He wants to tell her how comfortable he is with her. He wants to keep holding her this way, but he can’t.

Bellamy sits in a recliner in his small apartment, thinking about everything that has happened since they arrived. It’s only been a month since the Eligius IV, which housed the scarce remnants of the human race from Earth, landed on this new planet, and the natives are already integrating them into society. They all have housing, plenty of food, clothes, and the same basic rights as everyone else. The only thing they asked for in return was peace. Bellamy had been weary at first, knowing that with the company they brought to their new home peace wasn’t their first priority, but it has gone surprisingly well so far. Even Octavia has calmed down enough to lay low and not cause trouble. Bellamy has done everything they have asked of him, tell their stories, help house everyone, most of all keep the peace, but this last request was the hardest of them all. Apparently, a Welcome Ball is being thrown to celebrate the Eligius IV crew arriving on their planet, and everyone’s presence is required.

At first, Bellamy is cautious of the odd requirement. Why does everyone need to be there he thinks to himself. He runs a couple of worst-case-scenarios through his head before shaking it. He decides to focus on the fact that, for once, they are welcome somewhere instead of despised and killed. He will worry about it if he sees something suspicious at the dance. Now the only problem he has with this Welcome Ball surpasses any of the previous scenarios he just ran through his mind: He can’t dance.

There has never been a need for Bellamy to learn to dance. Now he is going to get all dressed up, pick up Echo, and go to this stupid dance just to make a fool of himself. He wonders if he could ask Raven to teach him. Maybe Finn and her had danced together back on the ark. He doubts Emori really knows how to dance. It doesn’t seem like her style. He doesn’t want any special moves, just the basics. Like how to hold Echo without feeling awkward. Of course he held her before, but it just seems so different when it’s going to be in front of so many people. Only one more person comes to his mind. Clarke. Even thinking of her in a ball gown with her bright blue eyes makes his cheeks grow hot. He can’t ask her. But who else? He decides that she is his best hope and goes to find her.

He doesn’t have to look too hard because she is in the first place he looks, which is the library. He walks in and immediately spots her across the room. She is reading an old medical journal and even from this distance he can see her eyes light up as she soaks in new information. He is about to retreat from the library to let her be when she looks up and sees him. She smiles, oh God that smile, and rushed over to him.

“I can’t believe this place, Bellamy! It has so much information in one place. I mean, I know we had books and stuff on the Ark, but nothing like this!” All of that comes out of her mouth in one breath before she continues, “And it’s so huge I can basically hear my voice echo if I talk loud enough.”

Echo. That reminds him of why he is here in the first place. “Look, Clarke, I need to ask you a huge favor,” Bellamy whispers partly from embarrassment and partly from the librarian giving him a dirty look.

“Sure,what’s up?”

“So you know about the ball coming up, right?”

“Of course, how could I forget?” He can tell she doesn’t want to go just as much as him.

Bellamy takes his eyes off her beautiful face and starts, “Well…it’s just…I don’t know…” when he looks back he quickly admits, “I can’t dance.” He expects her to laugh, just a little bit, but nothing comes out of her mouth. All he gets is a small expression of confusion.

“I’m sure Echo can teach you. And you are probably better that you think. There really isn’t anything you are bad at.” As she finishes her sentence she darts her eyes away and Bellamy notices the intense blush rising from her neck.

Clarke starts to walk away, but Bellamy snags her wrist. “Please, can you teach me?”

He takes note of her slight hesitation, thinking she is going to say no, but is relieved when she says, “Meet me at my apartment in an hour.” Their eyes stay locked for a few more moments before Bellamy drops her wrist and she returns to her table. When he leaves the library, he realizes the smile plastered on his face is impossible to remove.

Exactly an hour later Bellamy arrives at Clarke’s door. He is about to knock when it opens and Raven appears. Great. Raven has to see this? Luckily after she lets him in, she shuts the door behind herself as she leaves. Clarke’s place is pretty much the same as his, but it looks a little bigger now with all the furniture pushed to the walls.

“Is this enough room?” Clarke asks.

“I hope so. I don’t need to learn the tango, just how to get around with Echo.”

“Right. So, come over her in the center.” Bellamy follows her lead and walks into the center of her living room. She turns towards her radio and plays some slow music. He is keenly aware of how close they are. Only a couple feet between them. “Like this?”

“Yes, but not for long.” She seems to need to collect her thoughts before she continues. “Now, put your hands on my waist.” Bellamy does what he is told, but apparently holds her a little too high. “Just a little lower.” She slides his hands down to settle perfectly on the curves of her hips.

“So what do you do with your hands?”

“When you do this, Echo will put her hands on your shoulders, like this.” She gently lays her hands in the middle of each of Bellamy’s shoulders and a small shudder goes through him. Hopefully she didn’t feel that. Now they starts swaying back and forth to the music while slowly rotating in a circle. “This probably feels a little awkward, right? Standin a foot and a half away and swaying?”

“A little bit, I guess,” Bellamy admits.

“As the song goes on, you will get closer to each other.” She shows this by stepping towards him. Only six inches away. “Is this better? More comfortable?”

He wants to tell her how comfortable he is with her. He wants to keep holding her this way, but he can’t. He is with Echo and will not hurt her like this. “It does seem more comfortable,” he whispers.

“Now, knowing how much you care for each other, this space between you guys will become even smaller.” Her voice is getting softer now too, as if she doesn’t want to startle him when she is so close. “She will move her hands and intwine her fingers behind your neck like this,” she says as her movements reflect her words. He can feel her fingers resting on the nape of his neck. “Reflexively, your arms will wrap around her back.” Of course, she is right. There is no space between their bodies and their heads are cheek to cheek.

“This is a lot easier than I thought it would be,” Bellamy tells Clarke, straight into her ear. His voice has gotten gravelly, filling up with desire that he knows isn’t for his girlfriend.

“I told you that you would be a natural.” He can feel her smile against the side of his face. He leans into her cheek, trying to distract himself from his current thoughts. Like the way her hands are creeping up into his hair. Or the way she smells, as if she just got out of the shower. He doesn’t even realize his own hands grasping her shirt like he will never let go.

They continue to sway and turn to the music, no one saying anything anymore. He has gotten so comfortable holding Clarke that he almost forgets that he will be holding Echo instead. When he pulls away, regrettably, he immediately feels the absence of her touch. All he wants in this moment is to hold her again, but he knows he can’t.

“Thank you for teaching me how to dance.” Bellamy backs up to a reasonable amount of personal space between them. “I will see you at the dance?”

“Maybe. I mean, I will be there since I have to be, but will probably stick to the shadows.” He knows Clarke isn’t looking for pity. She just really doesn’t care for things like balls.

Against his better judgement he says, “How about I save a dance for you. You should have at least a little fun.”

“I might take you up on that,” she replies. Something on her face seems to say the opposite, though. He doesn’t blame her and is kind of thankful. He doesn’t need everyone to see how he would rather be holding Clarke because everyone will see right through it. Especially Echo.

“Well, I better get going. It was nice to…hang out.”

Clarke walks him to the door and opens it. ��Yeah. I will see you later, I guess.” They stand there for a minute, each one’s eyes roaming the other’s face. Eventually, Bellamy wakes from his trance and walks out the door. When she softly shuts it behind him, he breaks into the grin he had been holding in the entire time and walks back to his apartment with it irremovable on his face.
