I’m the type of petty that enjoys unsubscribing to mailing lists. Like guess what? You’ve annoyed me and now you never ever get to speak to me again and there’s nothing you can do about it.

My mother used to insist on muting the ads on TV and, well, I’ve become my mother. (And she was right - they’re 1000% less annoying when they’re muted)

I’m more of a morning menu girlie than a morning routine girlie but I have discovered there are some things that shouldn’t be on the menu. Like, paradoxically, reading fiction. I just get sucked into a book and don’t want to do anything else. But starting the day with nonfiction or poems — amazing, energetic, great idea.

writing badly and cringily is actually an essential part of the writing process, both in terms of individual projects and in gaining voice and confidence as a writer in the long term. there is no way around the cringe. there's no way around the work.

I swear to god, trying to explain writing to non-writers something. “But what is it? What’s it for?” I dunno man, the muse dictated it to me. Take it or leave it.

One of my mottos for 2025 probably should be “plan less, write more”

Writing in 2024 was all about growth. The kind of germination that takes place deep down in the dark cold ground. A lot of internal growth, the kind of deep inner workings realigning themselves in ways that take time to be seen in the surface. I’ve learned things about my writing - the sorts of things I want to write, the kind of writer that I am. The ideas I have for various stories have matured, gaining layers and depth.
A lot of deep growth, not a lot of things to show for it. No list of stories published and novels written. I’ve written new short stories but they’re all in various stages of actually being polished and ready for public consumption.
But ideas. Oh I have so many ideas. So much work to do in 2025 and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it.

Going for a long walk in the foggy woods, then sitting down with a really good book just gets the creative juices flowing like nothing else.

Whoever abridged It’s A Wonderful Life and decided that’s the only version available on the streaming services I have access to — I hope you stub your toe today

My significant other is off at his work Christmas party and I’ve just spent the evening sitting under a blanket, next to the Christmas tree, with a fireplace crackling away on YouTube and finished the last chunk of Wuthering Heights. 10/10 evening, no notes.

I’ve just seen another ad for that new voice assistant thingy on the new Google phone and may I just say:
I don’t want to speak to my phone. Ever. Stop it.

I would love to do the whole aesthetic planning for the new year in a cute coffee shop but unfortunately my new year vision boarding is going to be restricted to random bits of time like sitting on the bus

Listen, I didn’t even read Flowers for Algernon, my boyfriend did, but he read me the last line and it’s still haunting me.
