BIG BANG 2024 CREATOR SPOTLIGHTS - TEAM ALPHA

As we countdown to the close of Big Bang 2025 Writer Sign-Ups, join us in celebrating our Big Bang 2024 Teams! This weekend, our spotlight is Team Alpha. Today we are interviewing artist @laidraws who teamed up with @kandisheek, talking about the art they created for: A Hundred Visions And Revisions!

1. How long have you been creating stevetony fanworks and what drew you to the pairing? I've been creating mostly since 2021 but I did create under a different name briefly in 2012, but forgot the username to the account. I've always loved Steve and Tony's relationship dynamic so the ship was a no-brainer. I think they bring out the best in each other and how absolutely relatively useless they are without each other. How much gayer could they be?

2. Why did you join BB? I love working collaboratively with other people in creative spaces! I really enjoy seeing other people's creative processes and of course, adore the end-product. I also find immense joy in getting to create something for a friend whose work I already enjoy, and I'm not going to lie, from the summary it was pretty obvious who I was going to work with and I jumped at the chance!

3. What was your favorite thing/part of the process of about creating this piece? I really enjoyed getting to research the historical aspect, and referencing old masters' works. And I never tire of looking at Steve or Tony's face 🙂 Also, of course, it was a blast working with Kandi, who is incredible and so, so talented.

4. What do you hope people connect with or take away from this BB piece? I just hope that people like the work as much as I liked working on it. And I hope they think the art and fic complement each other well!

5. What art in your portfolio are you most proud of? This pastiche/master copy honestly taught me so much, I'm really proud of it!

6. If viewers like this, what other works of yours should they check out? They might like: Mirrors a Still Sky is a painting I made for a fic I wrote of the same title, and I wanted it to look like a romance novel! This one was for RBB and has an accompanying fic by ABrighterDarkness. I wanted to capture the lovely dreaminess of the fic! And finally… This one is my most popular piece, which was a lovely surprise! It was for bingo, and honestly I loved working on the reflections in their eyes so much.

7. Tell us about a work you are currently creating or hoping to publish soon that we should get excited for. I'm actually taking a break from fandom creation for exceedingly boring real-life reasons, but I'm allowing myself to work on my Marvel Trumps Hate winning bid from last year as an exception! That one is SteveTony and I'm hoping to be done with it soon, so be on the lookout!

1. How long have you been creating stevetony fanworks and what drew you to the pairing?

I've been writing for Stevetony since 2021, but I published my first fic for them on August 14th 2022. My 3rd anniversary as a Stevetony writer is coming up, hehe.

2. Why did you join BB?

I've always loved collabing! There's something so special about art-fic collabs. Also, I very rarely have ideas for longer fics, and making them part of an event like the Big Bang motivates me to stay on track and finish them.

3. What was your favorite thing/part of the process of about creating this piece?

Editing. Especially the first chapter, which had been sitting in my docs for a while as a draft. When I picked it up, I re-wrote most of it and liked it so much more. That motivated me to outline the rest of the fic and keep writing. Brainstorming with my alpha reader was also really fun.

4. What do you hope people connect with or take away from this BB piece?

Honestly, whenever I write about grief, it's always me processing my own feelings. I personally find it very comforting when recovery is portrayed as non-linear in stories, because that feels more realistic to me, and it seemed important to me to craft a story like that.

5. What fic/art in your portfolio are you most proud of?

Apart from this one, my fic for Holiday Exchange 2024, Can't Escape (The Way I Love You). It's a 616 Civil War II, Hydra!Steve/Tony sad Soulmate AU.

6. If readers/viewers like this, what other works of yours should they check out?

7. Tell us about a work you are currently creating or hoping to publish soon that we should get excited for.

I'm currently writing a fic for Dodged a Bullet — a 616 Civil War Exchange run by @niche616exchanges but because it's an exchange I can't talk about it yet! I can promise you it'll be sad, though!
