one of the most euphoric feelings is being in a queer bar and seeing women flirting and dancing together. bodies pressed up against one another, or even just simply sitting at the bar and talking. the eye contact. the subtle hand movements. i cant put into words how incredibly attractive and sexy it is. to see people like you being themselves. oh, how warm it makes my body feel 🥴

PSA to the folks who love to use “Sexuality is fluid” towards 100% full blown lesbians, sexuality is fluid for SOME not all, especially mascs and studs. There have been too many occasions I’ve seen bisexuals and straight folks who try to talk over and inject themselves in lesbian centered conversations looking to “straightsplain” every thing and speak on behalf of “bisexual studs and butches” which are NOT a thing and will try to use the “sexuality is fluid” argument to invalid masculine lesbians and femmes. We are not 50/50, 90/10, or 80/20, we are 100/100 attracted to women and when you paint sexuality as fluid for everyone it’s incredibly invaliding and dangerous considering the instances of cis men trying to corrective rape and perpetrate violence towards mascs all in the name of trying to “factory reset” us straight or turn us into bisexuals.

The violence that is heavily and often perpetrated against studs and mascs sickens me. For the last few days my TikTok fyp has been loaded with response videos to the guy who made a video saying it’s “Bodyslam A Stud Day” countless of my stud and femme mutuals have been saying that videos like that promote violence and hate crimes against studs and that if needed studs will defend themselves. Well as they always do, misogynistic, lesbophobic men have been in the comment sections of these videos trying to frame the trend as “just a joke” and creating bullshit hypotheticals and fairytales trying to justify being able to beat up studs all in the name of “You wanna be men so bad, so were going to treat you like men” infuriates me. I often discuss this issue with both cishet and non cishet friends and family about how many bigoted cishets view studs as “its” and like an alien-like third gender. We are viewed as ugly and mentally unwell dykes “cosplaying” as men, too masculine to ever be considered women until it fits their lesbophobic rhetoric we then get viewed as “lost” women who need to be “reminded” of our place within the patriarchy, that we should be feminized and “factory reset” aka corrective raped straight. When you factor in fatphobia, colorism, and transphobia it’s a lethal combo that many black queer women deal with online and IRL. I want to remind my fellow studs, androgynous presenting women, transmacs, gnc, and femmes that despite whatever hateful, sickening comments we get in public or online, we are amazing beings who have mastered the skill of living in duality (masculine and feminine) don’t change yourself, don’t allow disrespect, continue to take up space, and if absolutely necessary take up arms and defend the humanity of yourself and other members of our community. After all, we’re all we’ve got!

There are so many unique experiences black women face when we are masculine and lesbian. The number of times I’ve had other black women look at me in confusion, distrust, and sometimes disgust for simply being masculine is insane😂 I’ve also had conversations with black women who want to have locs like mine but won’t get them out of fear of looking like a stud or a little boy in the beginner stages despite being very feminine and they identify as straight. Friendships are also challenging as well because at least in my area and in my experience, there aren’t many black openly lesbian or queer women in my area so, often times you are left trying to befriend straight women which is especially rough because when you’re not male-centered, feminine, or attracted to men in any way some straight women will treat you like a leper. On the flip side, you have straight women who will claim allyship but, treat studs like little accessories, like men and solely keep studs around to boost their ego and give them attention. The second the “friendship” dissolves then you’re every dyke and bulldagger in the book (I’ve experienced this on two separate occasions) The examples of this type of treatment is why so many young studs are isolated and lack community with fellow black women and some of these issues cross over into the lesbian space and makes it harder for femmes and studs to experience platonic friendship. Personally, I think studs should be incredibly selective when it comes to making friends because not only do you want to share commonality with other women to a certain degree but, you also want to make friends who value and respect your identity and fully understand the complexities of being a masculine lesbian and are conscious of their privilege of being cishet in our society.

LESBIANS please take up space!!!! Society has always somehow managed to make us feel less than because of our orientation and lack of subscription to the patriarchy, that we are not “normal”, and that we should not be seen or heard from. Fuck that, whatever you’re passionate about (activism, art, fashion, filmmaking, life in general) TAKE UP SPACE!!! Show up as your authentic self and command the respect you desire and deserve. This goes for ALL lesbians!!!

When it comes to dating, never accept the bare minimum. The flaky almost nonexistent communication, the backhanded insults framed as jokes, and the lack of reciprocation on dates and outings. Our community is small but that does not mean we have to settle and tolerate piss poor effort from potential romantic partners all in the name of being able to say you have a girlfriend. When the right woman comes along, you’ll never have to second guess her interest and intentions with you because it will show in not only her words but her actions EVERY SINGLE TIME.

being dominant about consent
“you will tell me if something makes you uncomfortable.”
“can I touch you here, sweetheart?”
“would you like me to think for you for a bit, smart girl?”
“i will always take care of you. you can put your trust in me.”
