Most lore comes directly from the songs! There are, of course, gaps filled in on the band's website, but even the lore written by the members themselves have been edited and rewritten over the years. It's honestly unreliable at times, that's why I've taken to just making shit up. Hell, The Spine is a part time barista so he can pay for his crippling bouncy ball addiction.

Is there any meaning behind the bots' eye colors?

None beyond that they correspond with the core used to power them. Interestingly enough, an entry was removed from the official SPG timeline on their website. I couldn't tell you verbatim what it said as it's been a while since it was edited, but it amounted to a collaboration of sorts between Walter Robotics and Becile Industries on The Spine. This being the reason why he is the only robot to have both eyes green. Similarly, this is why Rabbit had red eyes for the briefest time, because she was being powered by a red matter core. But why does she have one green and one blue eye? I could not say.
