March 3 - 9: Spring Break
Spring break mode: activated! Stiles and Derek are ready to make some unforgettable memories. The plan? Maybe a road trip through the scenic routes of California. Or maybe they spend the week in a cabin in the woods, surrounded by nature's serenity. They could go hiking, take long walks, and at night, gather around a campfire, share stories, or just enjoy the peacefulness. It's all about stepping away from the usual hustle and bustle and reconnecting with each other and the great outdoors.

The Snowball Fight
written as part of the 1000 cakes challenge for the sterek reverse challenges discord and for @sterekfests prompt: "Let it snow."
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski Characters: Stiles Stilinski, Derek Hale Additional Tags: Meet-Cute, Snowball Fight, ST1000CC23, POV Stiles Stilinski, Alternate Universe - Different First Meeting, Alpha Derek Hale Summary:
When Stiles launched the snowball, the last person he expected to hit was the man of his dreams. Oops?
Stiles crouched against the tree, chest heaving as he packed snow for snowballs. He peered around the tree, trying to catch sight of his friends who were hiding somewhere close, their laughter muffled by the winter air. With a quick motion, he scooped up another handful of snow, shaping it precisely, his breath forming small clouds that quickly disappeared.
All too soon, there was a faint rustling nearby.
Gotcha, he thought, packing up his newly created projectiles. He sprang from behind the tree, launching snowballs toward the noise with a triumphant yell. However, they struck a large, broad chest instead of hitting one of his friends. He couldn't help but check the guy out, taking in the way his henley and jeans were stretched over his muscles—the fabric damp from snow since he wasn’t wearing a coat. Though he did wear a scarf. One with little oranges roaming across it in a whimsical pattern that seemed at odds with his rugged appearance.
And despite his lack of appropriate winter attire, the man didn't seem bothered by the cold at all.
Werewolf. An alpha if the flash of crimson in his eyes was any indication.
"Shit." Stiles threw his hands up in surrender, looking at the alpha werewolf with apologetic eyes. After a moment, he tugged on his coat in a nervous gesture. "Sorry, man, I thought you were someone else."
There was a scowl on the alpha's face, but then the corners of his mouth twitched into a smile, and a deep laugh rumbled from his throat, sending a chill down Stiles's spine—but not from fear.
Do. Not. Get. A. Boner.
Either the alpha didn't seem to notice the scent of Stiles's arousal, or he chose to ignore it because all he did was shake his head and brush off the snow as if it were mere dust.
"No harm done. My name's Derek," he said, his voice surprisingly warm.
Stiles cleared his throat and gave him a slightly awkward smile. Seriously, how was he supposed to think when Derek was a walking wet dream? The literal embodiment of the man of Stiles's dreams. "Stiles. My name. That's my—well, that's not my actual name, but it's what everyone calls me. Nice scarf, by the way. Are those oranges?"
Christ. Why the fuck was he rambling?
Oh right. Because Derek was ridiculously good-looking, like a Greek god who had decided to humor a mortal, turning Stiles into a nervous, babbling mess.
"Kumquats," Derek said, smirking as if he knew exactly what effect he had on Stiles. "So, Stiles…"
Kum-what? Fuck. The sound of his name coming out of Derek's mouth short-circuited his brain, rendering him speechless and unable to think. It was enough to make him melt into a puddle right there in the snow.
"This looks like a good game you've got going here. Mind if I join in?" Without waiting for an answer, Derek bent down, scooping up some snow and quickly forming his own snowball before throwing it at Stiles. It nailed him in the shoulder.
Stiles's mouth dropped open in shock before a grin quickly spread across his face.
"Oh, you're on!" he exclaimed, already reaching for more snow to retaliate. Derek fled and the pursuit was on.
The impromptu snowball fight that followed was one of the best Stiles had ever experienced. His friends eventually made their way over from wherever they had disappeared, joining in on the fun. Snowballs flew back and forth, and laughter and good-natured taunts filled the air.
Derek had quite the arm, his throws accurate and fast—not that Stiles expected anything less of an alpha werewolf—making him an exhilarating opponent. Stiles couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so alive, adrenaline surging through his veins with each dodge and throw.
When his friends had enough, Stiles stayed, not quite ready to end the spontaneous fun. Derek didn't leave either, the two of them launching more snowballs and laughs until the sky started to darken—the temperature dropping even more.
"Okay, okay!" Stiles laughed, finally calling for a temporary truce as he panted, hands on his knees from the exertion. Not that he really wanted to leave.
"Truce accepted...for now," Derek said, his breath visible in the crisp winter air. He extended a hand to help Stiles up, their fingers brushing. A current of electricity seemed to pass between them, making Stiles gasp.
Heat rushed to Stiles's cheek and not entirely from the cold. Still, he managed to scoff in mock indignation. "For now? Admit it. I gave you a run for your money."
"Not bad—for a human," Derek added with a teasing grin, and it was as if a kaleidoscope of butterflies had taken flight in Stiles's stomach.
Derek's charm was disarmingly potent, dislodging Stiles's usual ease of banter. With a slight chuckle—and despite the cold nipping at his nose—warmth bubbled inside him that had nothing to do with the fading winter sun still peeking over the horizon.
"Hey, Derek," Stiles started, gathering the courage to speak his mind. He wasn’t ready for their time together to end. Maybe they could head to the diner for dinner or the cafe for hot cocoa. "Do you think maybe you'd want to…"
His words hung in the air, unfinished. But only for a moment because Derek nodded as if he knew exactly what Stiles was going to ask. "Yeah, I'd like that."
The simplicity of his response, genuine and unaffected, sent a wave of relief through Stiles. It was refreshing not having to dance around with words or wonder about hidden meanings.
"Great," Stiles replied, a broad smile stretching across his face, the previous tension melting away like snow in the sun. "It's a date then."
Sure, he had casually thrown the word 'date' out there, but the way Derek's eyes lit up, a soft yet undeniable spark in their depths, told Stiles everything he needed to know. It was a silent affirmation that they were indeed on the same page.
The thrill of the chase, the play of the fight, all of it had been a prelude to this moment. And as the air filled with the promise of something new, Stiles couldn't help thinking this would be one hell of a winter.

Summary: Derek has a quiet moment, reflecting on his life and his little family as the New Year counts down to midnight.
Derek smiled as he studied his family.
Stiles was asleep on the couch with Ava tucked against his chest and of course, she was shifted. Derek knew that she loved being shifted because she had more freedom as a pup than she did as a baby and he’d be sad when she stopped shifting around the age of five. It would feel like an eternity to both of them until she could fully shift again after she was eighteen, but he also knew it would feel like time flew by the time his little girl was on her way to being an adult and starting a life of her own. And maybe one day, her own pack.
Elijah was hanging upside down off the couch, his head resting on Derek’s shoulder as Derek sat on the floor. His little family had tried their best to stay up until the new year, but they’d been fast asleep for about an hour now and there were less than thirty minutes left until midnight.
The night had been eventful with watching their children’s favorite cartoons and letting Elijah drink sparking white grape juice as he pretended he was an adult, but they both knew they only bought it for Stiles since Ava was still nursing. They’d played the Floor is Lava with Stiles being the safety zone and Derek had more than once let Elijah win like he always did.
Not for the first time that night, Derek thought his life was perfect. After everything he’d been through, after all the pain and loss, he couldn't ask for more than what he had right now. Ever since he’d met Stiles and Elijah was born, he thanked whatever powers that be in the universe for letting him have this little slice of happiness. Even more so after Ava had been born, and especially now that Stiles was pregnant again.
They’d both always wanted a big family, each for their own reasons, and Derek felt like he was building a life that he could be proud of. One that he knew his family would have been proud of him for. He had a mate, he could take care of his pack, and they were living a perfectly mundane life filled with so much love and happiness that it sometimes hurt Derek’s chest with how much he felt for Stiles and their children.
After the fire, he never thought he’d be able to feel like this again. He never thought that he would be able to love anyone ever again. He was glad that he was wrong.
Derek raised his hand to gently stroke over Elijah’s hair, which caused Elijah to rumble with that little sound that Derek knew meant he was happy. Stiles always made fun of Derek when Derek made that sound too, telling him that he was teaching their son bad habits. He knew Stiles didn't mean it and they always laughed about it.
He carefully shifted until Elijah was sliding down his shoulder, still fast asleep, until he slid into Derek’s arms. Derek cradled Elijah against his chest. He smiled as Elijah curled against him, purring as best a werewolf could, and stood. He scented Elijah’s hair and walked him to his room, carefully tucking him into bed and brushing his hand over his hair again before he left and did the same for Ava.
Once the kids were in bed, he returned to the living room and smiled down at Stiles, who was still sleeping. Derek sat on the edge of the couch next to him, glancing at the muted television that had Times Square in New York on, waiting for the ball to drop. They still had some time and he thought about not waking Stiles, but then he felt Stiles’ hand on his thigh.
Derek’s gaze returned to his sleepy mate, finding Stiles blinking up at him and yawning.
“Kids in bed?” Stiles asked, voice groggy. He stretched and then slid his hand to hold Derek’s, relaxing back against the couch.
“I just put them to sleep… the three of you have been asleep for a little while. I didn't want to wake you.” Derek laced his fingers with Stiles’, bringing his hand up to place a kiss on the backside.
“Did we miss the ball drop?” Stiles asked, glancing at the TV which would answer his question, but Derek knew that he’d wait for his response all the same.
“Not yet, but it’s soon. Did you want to skip it and go to bed?” Derek glanced at the TV and they still had at least five minutes until the countdown started.
“No, we’ve made it this far. Or, well, you did. But I’m up now.” Stiles chuckled and sighed, then sat up on the couch, crossing his legs under him.
“It was a valiant effort,” Derek replied with a grin, reaching out for Stiles and dragging him into his lap. Stiles moved easily enough, draping his legs over Derek’s as he settled and wrapped his arms around his neck.
“Maybe next year the kids will make it to midnight… or maybe at least I will.” Stiles laughed softly, nuzzling against Derek’s neck as Derek’s hand slid onto Stiles’ belly. He wasn't showing yet, but Derek knew they were both imagining that Stiles was already growing a tiny pooch, despite them both knowing it was more likely a food baby at this point in Stiles’ pregnancy.
“I think we both might miss midnight next year with four children underfoot.” Derek’s other hand smoothed up Stiles’ back as Stiles scented him, glad that it comforted Stiles, especially since he knew it would help him the further along his pregnancy went.
“You’ve got a point,” Stiles replied and smirked as he drew back. “But I’m sure we will still all try.”
They looked at the TV when the countdown started and Derek thought about how different the following New Year's Eve would be. If they got the twins they both wanted, they’d have four kids, and if they still had only one, they’d both be happy with their little pack of three children.
“So, Derek Hale,” Stiles started, his fingers playing at the base of Derek’s skull, teasing the hair there. It sent a shiver down Derek’s spine and his smile was soft, his eyes full of love as he held Stiles. “I think you owe me a New Year’s kiss.”
Derek’s hand moved from Stiles’ back, trailing up until he wrapped his hand around the back of Stiles’ neck and gripped firmly as the seconds ran down on the television. He drew Stiles into a kiss as the horn sounded, pouring everything he felt into it. The kiss was passionate, yet gentle and he grinned as he scented Stiles’ arousal.
Stiles was flushed and laughing softly when the kiss broke. “I think I’m awake now,” he teased. “And you need to take me to bed and breed me while we can,” he whispered, fingers dancing across the mark on Derek’s neck that marked Derek as Stiles’.
“Your wish is my command,” Derek replied, his arms moving to cradle Stiles and he stood, sending Stiles into a fit of quiet giggles. Derek loved it when Stiles was happy and he knew that he’d spend the rest of his days making sure they were always like this.
As long as their hearts were beating and their lungs were filled with breath, Derek knew he had everything he’d ever need for the rest of his days. His life was perfect.

the best start to a new year
written for- @sterekfests prompt: "Kiss me at midnight." @sterekweekly word: kiss @sterekmonthly word: beginning @sterekbingo square: dancing @imagine-sterek's 24, the sterek 2024 event
Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski Characters: Stiles Stilinski, Derek Hale Additional Tags: POV Stiles Stilinski, Canon Compliant, Future Fic, Established Relationship, Deputy Stiles Stilinski, Surprises, New Year's Eve, New Year's Kiss
Summary:
Stiles wished he could be at home with Derek celebrating New Year’s, rather than working. So, he was pleasantly surprised to find Derek at the sheriff’s station, waiting to ring in the New Year with him.
Stiles sighed for what had to be the millionth time in a handful of seconds. If he'd known being the newest deputy for the Beacon County Sheriff's Department meant he was relegated to the shitty shifts, he might have reconsidered joining. Shouldn't being the sheriff's son have some perks? Like, at the very least, not working on New Year's Eve when he could be spending the evening with Derek, cuddled up on the couch under the soft throw blanket they kept there, waiting for the ball to drop.
Instead, he was stuck in his cruiser, nursing a lukewarm cup of coffee and scanning the quiet streets, half hoping for some misdemeanor to break up the monotony. Not that he wanted anyone to get hurt or anything, but a little bit of action wouldn't be unwelcome.
Stiles wondered what Derek was doing. He'd tried to convince him to go to Lydia's for her annual New Year's Eve party, but Derek had given him a look of such deep skepticism that Stiles had dropped the subject almost immediately. Probably for the best, Derek and social gatherings didn't exactly mix like gin and tonic. He'd probably be at the loft, brooding over a book or working out, the usual fare for a quiet evening in Hale territory.
The clock on the cruiser's dashboard blinked 11:48 PM. Mocking him. Twelve more minutes until the new year, and there Stiles was, about as far from confetti and countdowns as he could get. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel with a resigned huff, feeling every bit a petulant child rather than a deputy of the law. Maybe if he closed his eyes, he could pretend he was anywhere but here.
A sudden chirp from the radio broke his reverie; a call was coming in. With a jolt, he was all business, reaching for the handset.
"Deputy Stilinski here," he answered, his previous thoughts vanishing instantly as dispatch requested him back to the station. An unexpected surge of adrenaline pulsed through him as he responded with a quick "10-4 en route."
He put the car in gear and maneuvered the cruiser through downtown, hoping it wasn't anything serious. Not when he had plans to call Derek at midnight to wish him a happy new year, to hear his voice, and maybe imagine that he was right there beside him. Briefly, Stiles wondered if he could sneak away after this call to steal a moment with Derek, to ring in the new year together, even if it was after the rest of the world celebrated.
Stiles arrived at the station in record time, but nothing seemed amiss. No other deputies were rushing about, and even the dispatcher, Marley, had a relaxed air as Stiles approached. Confused, he tilted his head and asked, "What's the situation?"
"No situation. Just head into the bullpen." Marley smiled in a way that made Stiles instantly suspicious.
He raised an eyebrow, about to inquire further when he was cut off by music blasting from the other room—*NSYNC, if he wasn't mistaken—and when he walked through the door, he stopped dead in his tracks at the scene before him.
Instead of the chaos he expected, he found the bullpen transformed into a mini celebratory zone, complete with streamers, balloons, and twinkling fairy lights strung across the room.
Stiles grinned so hard he thought his face might split in two as he glanced at the very last person he expected to see tonight.
Derek.
"What is this?" Stiles asked, even though it was obvious Derek had set this up for him. His heart swelled at the thought that Derek had gone to all this trouble just to give him a New Year's surprise. Derek’s gruff exterior, the one he presented to the rest of the world, was nowhere to be seen. Instead, there was a softness in his eyes, a tenderness that was reserved for Stiles alone—something that always left Stiles feeling like the luckiest guy alive.
Derek looked as content as Stiles had ever seen him. A smile tugged at his lips as he simply said, "Surprise."
"I'll say." Stiles stepped closer, noticing there was even a bottle of sparkling grape juice on his desk, along with two plastic flutes. "You did all this for me?"
"Yeah," Derek replied, his voice carrying a warmth that settled deep in Stiles's chest. "It's our first New Year's together in an official capacity. I wanted to spend it with you, even if you're on duty."
The lump in Stiles's throat was unexpected, and he swallowed hard, feeling an overwhelming rush of affection. "I don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything. Just...come here," Derek gestured him over, and Stiles didn't need to be told twice. He crossed the room in a few strides and wrapped Derek in an all-consuming hug that was met with equal fervor. And though it didn’t fit the beat at all, they swayed to the music—a private dance in their makeshift party.
When they finally broke apart, the clock on the wall drew Stiles's attention, showing it was only moments to midnight.
"Happy New Year," he said, leaning in to press a soft kiss to Derek's lips, tinged with the promise of the year to come. Derek reciprocated the kiss, deepening it just as the sound of cheers and fireworks from the outside world filtered in. But they were in their own little bubble, the celebration outside dimming in comparison to this moment. As the kiss ended, Stiles couldn't help but laugh. "Best start to a year. Ever."
Derek's answering chuckle rumbled against Stiles's chest, a sound so deep and genuine it made everything else insignificant.
"Happy New Year, Stiles," Derek murmured, his eyes shining with mirth and something softer, something that said this was just the beginning.
As the last remnants of the 'Happy New Year' chants echoed outside, Stiles and Derek shared another kiss. One that drowned out the world, ringing in a new year in the best way possible.
Together.

Summary:
As their kids built a fort and planned to stay up for New Year's Eve, Stiles and Derek bet on who would fall asleep first.
Stiles stood in the doorway, watching Derek clean up the mess from dinner. He noticed the way Derek's hands moved with efficient grace, wiping down the countertops and stacking the dishes neatly in the dishwasher. It was a simple task, yet there was something soothing about watching him work, finding a rhythm in the mundane. It was domestic, comforting, and a side of Derek that Stiles hadn't known he'd find so enthralling. Something about his big, bad alpha of a husband doing household chores just didn't fit the stereotype, and that contradiction only made Derek more appealing to Stiles. The room was filled with the clinking of dishes and the soft hum of the dishwasher as it started its cycle.
There was an intimacy in these quiet moments, a shared life that extended beyond the chaos of their daily lives with three rambunctious children. Werewolf children, no less.
"I can feel you staring at me," Derek said without turning around, a small smile playing on his lips. "Is there something you need, or are you just enjoying the view?"
Stiles chuckled, pushing off the doorframe to walk over and wrap his arms around Derek from behind. He rested his chin on Derek's shoulder, soaking in their closeness as he murmured,  "Can't it be both?"
Derek let out a soft sigh as he leaned back into the embrace. "With you, it's always both." The warmth in his voice was enough to spark a flutter in Stiles's chest. "Is everything okay?"
"Do you think they'll actually stay up all night?" Stiles asked, his fingers playing with the hem of Derek's shirt.
The kids were building a fort in the living room, hopped up on sugar and excitement for counting down to the New Year. The sound of their laughter fluttered in from the other room like music, a symphony of high-pitched giggles and the occasional dramatic roar.
Derek chuckled, turning around to face him, a skeptical arch to his brow before brushing his lips against Stiles's temple. "Honestly, I'll give them until ten before they all crash, just like Christmas. There's only so much energy humanly possible, even with sugar as fuel."
Though ever since winter break started, the kids had proven themselves to be full of surprises, giving Stiles and Derek a run for their money with their seemingly boundless stamina.
"Well, they do have the advantage of being werewolves," Stiles pointed out, dancing his fingers across Derek's chest. "And you and I both know that means a whole different level of energy."
Derek laughed again, the sound warm and deep, echoing the love and joy that filled their home. "True. And I suppose they also have determination on their side."
Stiles chuckled, recalling all the hushed whispers and giggling conspiracies that had filled the house as the kids' plans to stay up late took shape. "Yeah, there's that."
"Still," Derek said, "I think our bets are safe. In the end, they're kids, and kids need sleep, werewolf or not."
And Stiles knew that after all the excitement wore off and the sugar rush faded, they'd succumb to sleep, tangled in a mess of blankets and pillows within their homemade fortress, dreaming of their next adventure.
Derek rubbed the small of Stiles's back, smiling softly at him—the kind of smile that made Stiles's heart flip in his chest. "We should get the camera ready, too. This will be one for the memory books."
"Definitely." Stiles grinned, imagining the sea of cushions and sheets taking over the living room. "It'll be the Great New Year's Eve Stand-off of 2023. I'll have to make sure the batteries are fully charged because I'm betting the aftermath will be even more entertaining than the build-up. They already have a pillow fort set up, too. So even if they don't stay up, I think they're planning to stage a sleep-in protest or something."
Derek's laughter rumbled through Stiles's body, a sound he found himself wanting to capture and keep for the quiet moments when the house would eventually be empty, and the chaos of pitter-pattering little werewolf feet had grown into the steady, calm strides of teenagers.
"Oh yeah? Pillows, blankets, the whole nine yards?" Derek asked, amusement lighting his eyes—probably picturing their children fortifying their New Year's Eve stronghold.
"It's pretty impressive, actually." Stiles's eyes lit up with a fondness that only their children's antics could invoke. "I can't wait to see who'll be the last one standing—or, well, awake." He glanced at the clock, noting the hands steadily creeping towards that hopeful midnight hour. "I'm putting my money on Caleb. He's got that stubborn streak."
Derek chuckled, nodding in agreement. "You might be right. But I wouldn't count Eli out. He snuck in a couple of naps today. The kid's got strategy on his side. And he stayed up the longest on Christmas Eve."
They shared a look, an unspoken agreement that they were in for quite the show. It was a fleeting moment of calm before the storm of laughter and playful shrieks returned, signaling that the kids were nowhere near ready to call it a night.
"They're going to see the ball drop if it's the last thing they do," Derek said with a grin. "Might as well make the most of it, help them build some memories."
Stiles nodded, his gaze softening at the thought of their children determined to usher in the new year with their eyes open and hearts full of joy.
"Yeah, these are the moments they'll remember." For Stiles and Derek, too, and Stiles wouldn't trade it for anything. "Maybe it'll be a new tradition—may the strongest eyelid win."
Derek laughed again, the sound warm and genuine. "I like that. Let's make it happen. But first, we have to survive the sugar high."
The two of them wandered back to the living room, ready to join the fray, to supervise, and to be present for every moment of joy the night would bring. After all, these were the moments that made everything worth it.

As the ball dropped, Stiles glanced down at the kids. They'd been asleep before the countdown had even started, their great stand-off ending anticlimactically in snores and quiet breaths about an hour ago. Each little werewolf curled up under a fortress of pillows, their faces peaceful in slumber—though, surprisingly, Clara had been the last holdout.
Stiles turned to Derek with a grin. "Looks like we were both wrong."
Derek shook his head, smiling as he reached for the camera on the side table, capturing the last few seconds of the old year with a click. With the kids sleeping, the silence of their home, save for the occasional pop and crackle of the fireplace, was a stark contrast to the boisterous noise from earlier in the evening.
"It's perfect," Stiles whispered, leaning into Derek. He smiled as the dim light of the television playing the New Year's Eve festivities cast a soft glow over them.
Derek placed the camera down, pulling Stiles closer to his side.
"Yeah, it is," he agreed, his voice barely above a whisper so he didn't disturb the tranquil scene before them.
The clock struck midnight, and as the world outside erupted in cheers and fireworks, Stiles's world was right here, within the walls of their home—in the quiet heartbeat of their family.
Derek tipped his chin up for a gentle kiss, a silent celebration of another year together. It was a simple, quiet moment that held the weight of all their shared years and love.
Stiles wrapped his arms around Derek, returning the kiss with equal tenderness. As they pulled apart, Stiles whispered against Derek's lips, "Happy New Year, Derek."
Derek's response was a soft smile and a tighter embrace. "Happy New Year, Stiles."
In the warmth of their hold, the soft crackle of the fireplace, and the gentle rhythm of their children's breathing, they welcomed the new year—a promise of more love, challenges, and memories to be made.

Summary: “You should save some for the others.” Stiles turned to see a handsome guy standing there and thankfully he was holding his second cookie or it might just have fallen out of his mouth as he stared at him. His tone was light and teasing, so Stiles knew that he didn't mean it. “I, uh—sorry?” Stiles replied, looking at the table filled with treats and then back at the man. “Did you bring any? I’ll make sure not to eat those.” The guy laughed, it reaching his eyes which had Stiles almost melting right on the spot.
Stiles thought Lydia was crazy, and not her normal crazy, but like weird crazy because she had invited him to a fuzzy sock holiday party at her place, which meant that everyone who came would have to wear fuzzy socks. Not only was it a party, but it was also a slumber party. Stiles couldn't remember the last time he’d been to a slumber party. Probably before he was ten and it was likely with Scott for his birthday party.
So going to an adult slumber party, with alcohol, fuzzy socks, and probably the possibility of hooking up was something completely new to Stiles. It wasn't like he was into public sex or any type of orgy situation. He was a very private kinda guy when it came to that. Voyeurism was not his thing, which meant he’d need four walls and a door at least to hook up at this party.
Then again, the lakehouse had plenty of space and rooms, so maybe he would find someone. It wasn't too far out of the ballpark.
Stiles sighed and checked his phone, looking at the GPS, trying to figure out the easiest way to get to the lakehouse without having to go through too much ice and snow along the way. His Jeep was a little on the old side, and he needed new tires, so it wasn't the safest thing to drive in this weather. It did its job though and he loved his Jeep, especially because it was his mom's.
He reached out to turn the knob on the heater and blasted it because the Jeep was drafty and started his route to the lakehouse. If the lake was frozen over and Lydia wanted to ice skate, Stiles was going to have to tell her no, since drowning was one of his biggest fears. He tried not to think about that as he drove, thumping his fingers on the steering wheel, and humming along to Christmas songs playing from his phone.
By the time he made it to the lakehouse, there were cars parked everywhere, more than Stiles realized there would be. So this was a larger party than he’d originally thought. That only made him more nervous. He sighed and parked his Jeep in a place that looked like it wouldn't get trapped if he decided to bail on this party, and killed the engine.
Stiles ran his hands over his face, took a deep break, and pulled his sweater hood over his head before hopping out of the Jeep. The door clanged behind him as he closed it and Stiles shoved his hands into his pockets, starting up the walk. Thankfully, he didn't slip and fall on his face.
It was a miracle.
Stiles reached the door, knocked, then waited. He could hear music on the other side and muffled voices. When the door opened, a tall brunette greeted him with an excited, “Hi! Oh. Come in, come in. Lydia is doing what Lydia does. Entertaining the best of us.”
Her tone was sarcastic and Stiles thought he could really get to know this girl. “I’m Laura,” she added with a grin, her lips as red as sin. “You are?”
“Uh—I’m Stiles.” He smiled and offered her his hand, which she shook awkwardly. Okay, so maybe he was the one that was being awkward.
“I have my fuzzy socks,” he added, lifting the leg of his sweats to show her his entrance fee. They were covered in penguins because Stiles secretly loved penguins. And frogs. Not that he’d ever tell anyone something like that.
“Great!” Laura nodded and shut the door behind Stiles, then motioned with her head toward a table at the far end of the room. “Eggnog is over there, along with a few cookies and sweets that people pitched in.” She frowned. “Don't eat the brownies. I think those are spiked… you know, with—” She made a face, but then again, it was illegal in most places still.
The last thing he needed to do was to test hot if his dad decided to check him. “Got it. No brownies.” He gave her a thumbs up and she walked off, leaving him standing there awkwardly with a bunch of people chatting around him in groups. They’d paired off and gathered up, Christmas music playing in the background, and Stiles didn't know where to start. So, he headed over to the eggnog table.
Stiles grabbed a cup and served himself, sipped it, and winced. Whoever made it had gone hard with the liquor. He had to pace himself, otherwise he’d be so drunk that he’d never remember the night. And that would be a bad thing. He hadn't done that since he was in high school.
He fished a few reindeer cookies from the table and shoved one into his mouth when a voice from behind him said, “You should save some for the others.”
Stiles turned to see a handsome guy standing there and thankfully he was holding his second cookie or it might just have fallen out of his mouth as he stared at him. His tone was light and teasing, so Stiles knew that he didn't mean it.
“I, uh—sorry?” Stiles replied, looking at the table filled with treats and then back at the man. “Did you bring any? I’ll make sure not to eat those.”
The guy laughed, it reaching his eyes which had Stiles almost melting right on the spot. “No, I didn't. My sister brought some of that brittle stuff, but we came for the fuzzy sock party. I wasn't exactly expecting this to be an actual party.”
“Oh, yeah—same. I thought it was going to be a small get-together, not an actual Lydia party.” Stiles chewed his cookie and smiled, meeting the guy's eyes. “I’m Stiles.” He offered his hand.
“Right. Right. I’m Derek,” he replied, taking Stiles’ hand and shaking it. Stiles held on for a little too long and Derek’s gaze dropped to Stiles’ hand before Stiles released it.
“Sorry. Well, it’s nice to meet you, Derek. I’m assuming you’re not from around here.” Because Stiles would've recognized him around town. Beacon Hills wasn't that big.
Derek chuckled. “I’m from Beacon County, but yeah, we don't live in Beacon Hills. We’re actually here because my other sister was invited by one of Lydia’s friends. So we’re a plus two, technically.”
Stiles glanced around the room, wondering who Derek’s sisters were. When his gaze returned to Derek, he frowned. “Oh, the girl from the door. Laura? Is that one of your sisters?”
“Yeah, she’s my twin.” Derek grinned. “She’s fifteen minutes older than me, which she’ll never let me forget.”
Stiles laughed, a belly of a laugh. “Ah, nice. I don't have any siblings, so that must be fun.” He laughed again, his eyes roaming over Derek. “I can tell that she’s fun.”
“More like a pain,” Derek replied with his own chuckle. “But we make it work. I know I couldn't live without her, even if she gets on my nerves the only way a fifteen-minute older sister can do.”
Stiles finished his second cookie and wiped his hand on his pants, then reached up to touch his neck, which he noticed Derek tracked his fingers. It gave him a shiver that tingled all the way down to his toes.
“Um, are you single?” Stiles ventured, darlingly. He didn't usually ask questions like that, but Derek was hot and Stiles was interested. And if he said no then he never had to see him again, right?
Derek looked confused and curious at the same time. “Yes,” he finally answered with a nod. “I am single. I don't have a boyfriend or a girlfriend. I, uh—I’ve been mostly focused on school, so dating hasn't really been on my mind. I haven't had a girlfriend since high school, and that was what you’d expect of being in love in high school.”
“Short-lived?” Stiles asked, laughing nervously.
“Pretty much.” Derek sipped his eggnog and then disposed of the cup in a trashcan near the table. “So, Stiles. Are you single?”
Stiles felt his stomach twist with nerves and his breath catch. Derek was asking him if he was single. He wasn't sure why it made him feel this nervous, because the obvious answer was hell yes he was single. Maybe it was because it looked like Derek’s gaze held a promise that Stiles could only hope for.
“I—uh, I—yeah, 100% single.” Stiles’ stomach only twisted more and his heart thundered in his chest. “But I’m into guys and girls, I’m just not as slick as you dropping it in there that you didn't have a boyfriend or a girlfriend.”
“So you caught that,” Derek smirked. “What can I say? I think you’re attractive and I’d like to get to know you more. Plus, we’ve got a while until it’s midnight and we’re watching the ball drop on TV in New York’s Time Square, right?”
“I’m pretty perceptive.” Stiles grinned and finished off his eggnog, tossing his cup into the trash with Derek’s. “So, should we find somewhere to sit and talk a little more?”
“Yeah, I think we can make that happen.” Derek looked around and Stiles followed his gaze.
Stiles saw Lydia across the room and she must have felt him watching her because she turned and waved at him, then gave him a thumbs-up. Her eyebrows arched and she gave Stiles one of those knowing smirks, like she knew that he’d find Derek and hit it off with him. Like she’d set up the whole thing. He wouldn't be surprised if she somehow masterminded it with Derek’s little sister.
He really needed to thank her later if they hit it off.
“What about over there?” Stiles asked and pointed to a small couch by the window. No one was likely sitting there because it was cold by the window with this weather.
“Looks like a great place,” Derek agreed and motioned with his hand for Stiles to walk in front of him. Stiles smiled and nodded, leading Derek over to the loveseat. Once they were there, Stiles plopped down ungracefully and shivered. He could feel the chill from outside through the window.
“Here,” Derek said, handing Stiles a blanket. He must’ve grabbed it on the way over, because he didn't remember the throw blanket on the couch when they got there. He tried not to think about how thoughtful that was and it was even a little romantic.
“Thanks.” Stiles took the blanket and laid it over himself as Derek sat down next to him, not too far from Stiles, within inches.
“So, tell me all about you. I want to know everything.” Derek sounded sincere as his gaze stayed locked with Stiles’, his smile soft and genuine, giving Stiles all of his attention.
It made Stiles nervous and excited at the same time. So he took a deep breath and started at the beginning. They talked about their childhood, both serious and funny memories. There were even a few embarrassing ones in there that Stiles was surprised they shared.
Talking to Derek seemed like the most natural thing in the world. Stiles had never felt this way with anyone and he could tell that Derek was there with him. There was an instant connection that neither of them could seem to pull away from.
Stiles wanted more. Needed more. And from what he could tell, Derek felt the same.
Suddenly the lights dimmed around them and Stiles looked up to see a disco ball shine in the center of the room. Of course Lydia would.
“Uh, well, I guess I didn't realize how much time had passed while we were talking,” Stiles started, looking back to Derek where the light from the disco ball shimmered around him.
Derek chuckled and scooted toward Stiles, closing the little space that was between them. “Well I don't want to seem presumptuous, but I was hoping for a midnight kiss.”
Stiles blushed and he knew that his skin would be blotchy red all over. He was thankful Derek wouldn't be able to see it in the dark, but he smiled and it made his chest flutter. “Me too,” he replied as people started counting down around them.
There was cheering and hoots and chatter, presumable for whatever the guests were watching for the countdown, which was taking forever. It was the longest ten seconds of Stiles’ life, but then there was confetti popping around them and people cheering and kissing.
Stiles licked his lips and his gaze locked with Derek’s. Derek didn't say anything. He reached forward, cupping Stiles’ cheek gently in one hand and smoothing his thumb against his skin. Stiles’ breath caught in his chest and then Derek was leaning forward and their lips were pressing together, tentative yet sure.
Derek’s lips were soft as Stiles returned the kiss, exploring as their tongues tangled together. He breathed deeply, Derek’s scent warming him all over as he felt Derek’s hand slide to the back of his neck and gripped him. Stiles was practically in Derek’s lap when they stopped, both of them breathing heavily in the scat space between their lips.
“Wow,” Stiles said with a smile that hurt his cheeks, resting his forehead against Derek’s.
Derek chuckled in a way that was too smug but also did things to Stiles. He wanted to kiss that smirk right off of Derek’s lips.
“I’m right there with you,” Derek replied, his voice quiet in the noise around them, almost like they were sharing secrets.
“Kiss me again?” Stiles asked, his nerves turning to exhilaration at the promise of more. Derek pressed in, brushing his nose against Stiles’, and kissed him again, deeper this time. And Stiles was lost to it, letting it take him over and fill all the places he needed Derek to be. It was like Derek soothed his soul and grounded him in a way that Stiles couldn't explain, but he knew that he never wanted to let this go.
When they paused, trying to catch their breaths, Derek said, “Can I get your number?”
Stiles barked a happy laugh and gave Derek a quick kiss. “Absolutely. We’re doing this again but on a date. And yes that is me officially asking you out.”
Derek beamed, the light reaching his eyes in the darkness. “Whatever you want, whenever you want. I’ll be there.”
Stiles knew that was a promise Derek would keep.

Summary:
…the one where Stiles thought his crush on Derek was unrequited. Spoiler: it wasn't.
"Have you seen Derek?" Cora asked, handing Stiles a glass of champagne. "There's only a few more minutes until midnight…"
Stiles rolled his eyes, ignoring her teasing grin as he took the glass.
"No, I haven't." Which was weird since they were usually attached at the hip, but Stiles was definitely going to look for him now.
Cora smirked and moved away to join the rest of the Hales gathered in the living room for the New Year's Eve celebration. Stiles had a sneaking suspicion that she knew about his crush on Derek. Hell, Derek probably knew, too, because sometimes Stiles caught Derek studying him—as if he were trying to guess what Stiles was thinking.
His scrutiny certainly never helped keep the blood from rushing to all the wrong places on Stiles's body, including his cheeks. That damned blush had been the bane of his existence ever since he realized that his feelings for Derek were far from platonic.
Because they were friends. Best friends.
And that was what made this whole situation a giant cliché. Stiles couldn't risk their friendship over an unrequited crush on his straight best friend, even if every fiber of his being was screaming at him just to tell Derek how he felt. It was safer to keep those feelings buried deep down, where they couldn't cause any damage.
Stiles figured Derek was probably hiding away from the noise and the crowd, staring at the stars. So he made his way through the party to where he was sure Derek would be, and sure enough, as he passed the large picture window facing the backyard, he spotted a familiar silhouette sitting on the deck, looking up at the night sky.
Derek.
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Stiles stepped outside and quietly shut the door behind him. The crisp night air bit at his cheeks as he walked toward Derek, trying to think of something to say that didn't involve confessing his undying love.
"Hey. You okay?" Stiles asked as he drew closer, his footsteps echoing on the deck's wooden slats.
They'd practically grown up together, friends since elementary school, and Stiles could usually tell if Derek was broodier than normal. From the stiff way Derek was sitting, something was definitely bothering him. There was only a two-year age difference between them, even though Derek seemed more mature at times—like he was an old soul who'd seen it all and had the cynicism to prove it. But also like a protector since Derek always seemed to be looking out for Stiles, even when it wasn't necessary.
Derek glanced briefly over his shoulder. "Yeah, just"—he sighed—"got some things on my mind."
Stiles sank down beside him and dangled his feet over the edge of the deck, mimicking Derek's posture.
"Wanna talk about it?"
Derek sighed again. "I know about your crush on me."
It was said so suddenly that Stiles tensed beside him, barely breathing. Fuck. His heart hammered in his chest, and he couldn't look Derek in the eye. This was it; this was the moment that would change everything. Stiles had imagined a hundred different scenarios, but he never expected Derek to bring it up first.
"I…I…" Stiles cleared his throat. "I'm sorry…if that makes you uncomfortable, I mean."
That was the last thing Stiles ever wanted. Derek was his best friend, one of the most important people in his life. The fear of ruining that was paralyzing.
"It doesn't," Derek said, turning to face Stiles with an intensity in his gaze that Stiles had never seen directed at him before. "It's just...I didn't know how to bring it up. Or what to do about it. I've been trying to figure out my own feelings. And they're not as straightforward as I thought."
Stiles was sure his heart skipped a beat, or maybe it stopped altogether. "W-What do you mean?"
Because there was no way Derek meant—
"I'm…I think I'm bi." Derek's confession came out in a rush, his voice barely above a whisper, yet it seemed to resonate with the importance of a shout in the quiet of the night.
Stiles felt like his entire world had just shifted on its axis. "You think or you know?"
"I know. I know I'm bi," Derek answered with more conviction this time.
Stiles's mind was racing, his previous worries suddenly replaced by a burgeoning hope that was probably reckless to entertain. Just because Derek was bi didn't mean he had feelings for Stiles.
"Well, that's—you know you can talk to me about anything, right? Like if you have questions or…" God, Stiles had no idea what he was saying. He just wanted to be there for his friend. To support him, regardless of how this might turn out because that was what friends did for each other. So, instead, he blew out a breath. "So, how did you—"
"Know?" Derek finished. "It was you."
Stiles's eyes went wide, his head snapping back to look at Derek.
Me? he wanted to ask, but it was as if speaking were a foreign concept. His mind couldn't wrap around a single word to utter out loud. All of this time, he'd been so wrapped up in his own feelings and fears that it had never occurred to him that Derek might be grappling with concerns just as considerable, perhaps even more profound. That Derek could be struggling with the same revelation about his sexuality, in part because of him. That maybe, just maybe, his feelings weren't unrequited after all.
"If I'm being honest, I've had… I've had feelings for you for a while," Derek admitted, looking away from him. His throat bobbed as his confession hung between them, tangible and heavy in the cool night air. Stiles could hardly believe what he was hearing. It was as if Derek had just presented him with the key to a door he'd been certain was locked forever.
"You…you have? For me?" Stiles stammered, his voice a mix of disbelief and cautious optimism. Derek nodded, finally turning to meet Stiles's wide-eyed gaze.
"Yeah. For you, Stiles. I just didn't know how to say it, and I was scared it would mess up our friendship." Derek's voice cracked slightly with the vulnerability of his admission.
"But…" Stiles frowned, confusion mingling with the sudden burst of elation that was threatening to overwhelm him. "You just said that you knew I had a crush on you."
Derek let out a humorless chuckle. "I thought you might, but I wasn't sure. Not until now. And I was worried about how it would affect everything. Our friendship, the group dynamics, our families..." Silence hung in the air for a moment before he continued, "You mean too much to me to risk it all on a maybe. I love you, Stiles."
Was Stiles dreaming? The possibility of Derek returning his feelings was something he had never let himself hope for; it was too painful to even contemplate. But he knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that when Derek said he loved him, it wasn't just as a friend. There was something deeper in his words, a resonance that couldn't be faked. Stiles's breath caught in his throat, and for a second, he couldn't find his voice. When he finally spoke, every word was laced with emotion.
"It's more than a maybe, Derek. It always has been," Stiles said earnestly, his voice thick with the weight of his own confession. With shaky fingers, he was brave enough to reach out and cup Derek's face. "I love you, too. I always have, and I always will."
Derek shivered and angled closer. Stiles's pulse blotted out the sounds of the nearby party and people counting down.
"Stiles," Derek breathed out, his breath hitching as their foreheads touched. "Kiss me."
So Stiles did.
Derek made a sound in the back of his throat—part groan, part sigh—as Stiles's heart galloped wildly. He was so afraid Derek would change his mind and pull away that Stiles reached out, tangling his hand in Derek's shirt and holding him steady. When Derek's tongue flicked against his, Stiles's entire body came alive, and he understood what this kissing thing was all about. It was breathy and heart-stopping and amazing.
They kissed for a long time, Derek's warm fingers gripping his neck and Stiles's twisted in his shirt, only breaking apart to catch their breath before going back for more. His lips were firm, his tongue was soft, and Stiles wanted to live in this moment and never come up for air.
But eventually, he did, panting softly against Derek's mouth, their foreheads still pressed together, eyes still closed.
Derek's hand, still on Stiles's neck, slid up into his hair, a gesture so tender that it made Stiles's heart swell even more. They stayed like that for a while, just breathing each other in, until the chill of the night reminded him they were still outdoors.
"Let's go inside before you freeze," Derek murmured, his breath warming Stiles's face.
"Yeah," Stiles agreed, voice hoarse from their intense kiss. "But, uh, what do we—"
"Tell everyone?"
Stiles nodded, wondering how the others would take the news. If Derek even wanted everyone to know yet because he wouldn't just be announcing that they were dating, he'd be coming out, and that was huge.
"Well, first I'll probably tell them that I'm bi. After that…" Derek took Stiles's hand, lifting it and kissing his knuckles. "We'll tell them we're…boyfriends?"
It came out more as a question than a statement, and Stiles's heart beat even faster—if that was possible.
"Are you sure?" he asked, not wanting Derek to feel pressured into putting a label on things too quickly. "We don't have to—"
"I've never been more sure about anything." Derek met his eyes, his gaze clear and steady. "I want to call you my boyfriend and have the world know that I'm yours and you're mine."
It was a yes—a resounding yes that seemed to echo in the quiet that followed, and a wave of relief crashed over him, mingling with excitement and a touch of nerves.
"Okay then, boyfriend," Stiles said with a grin that lit up his entire face. "Let's go inside and figure out the rest together."
Hand in hand, they walked back into the house, their future unwritten but promising. This was the start of something new, something real, and Stiles couldn't wait to see where it would lead.

November 26 - December 2: “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”
With Christmas music playing in the background, it’s time for Derek and Stiles to decorate for the holidays. Do they pull out old, familiar ornaments as they reminisce about past Christmases? Or are they building new traditions, weaving fresh memories into each tinsel and bell? Either way, it will be a perfect little Christmas moment.
December 3 - 9: “Let it snow.”
The weather outside might be frightful, but that won’t stop Derek and Stiles from enjoying the snow. Whether they’re building snowmen, throwing snowballs, or making snow angels, they’re bound to have a fun time.
December 10 - 16: “Winter Wonderland.”
This holiday season, Stiles and Derek can look forward to snow-covered landscapes, twinkling lights, and quaint little shops full of festive cheer. Maybe they wander through town, observing the festive decorations. Or perhaps they find joy in small moments, as they slide down a big, wintery hill. No matter how they choose to spend their day,  laughter is guaranteed.
December 17 - 23: “All I want for Christmas.”
Christmas wishes are abundant this winter season, whether that means Eli wants the latest toy on the market, or Stiles wants to spend time with his family and pack during the holiday season. Perhaps Derek is spending his time shopping for the perfect present for his mate and pup, or Stiles is trying to create the perfect holiday atmosphere leading up to Christmas. Either way, Stiles and Derek spend the holiday together, sharing winter feelings and love this chilly season.
December 24 - 30: “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.”
It's Christmas time, whether that's in Beacon Hills, New York, or somewhere else around the globe where Stiles and Derek are celebrating Christmas. Maybe they're at home, sharing their first Christmas as a couple, or it's Eli's first Christmas with the Pack. Either way, the gifts and love they share will warm their hearts this Christmas season.
December 31 - January 6: “Kiss me at midnight.”
The countdown to midnight has begun! Are Derek and Stiles spending their New Year's in New York City watching the ball drop in Times Square? Perhaps they're spending time at home together while they watch the ball drop on TV while their kids sleep in the next room. Or maybe they're meeting for the first time at a New Year's party and kiss at midnight. Of course, they fall in love. Share their New Year's and resolutions with us this winter season!
