Jon is a shallow water mermaid who watches people and animals. He wanders coral reefs and hides in the depths just off crowded beaches, sometimes venturing up rivers and past towns. Ever been in the ocean and felt like something is lurking just out of your sight? That’s Jon.

And Martin? Deep water mermaid. Middle of the ocean, cold and mostly empty, real Lonely vibes.

Oh ho but thEN, Martin gets caught by a huge fishing boat or whaling ship or similar, and captured and brought in to shore. And who should see this but Jon,, watching from the shallows of the shipping yard. Now, no-one usually sees Jon. He watches, and doesn’t ever get seen in return. But Martin, looking desperately out to the ocean, locks eyes with Jon. And in that moment, Jon knows he’s going to do anything it takes to get that merman free.

This line from the end of Hadestown is oddly fitting to Magnus, and almost comforting in a way.

Yes, The Magnus Archives has ended, but the story is always there for us to relisten, to retell, and as long as the Magnus universe lives on in our minds it’s never really over.

It’s a story about love. It’s a tragedy. And we will tell it again and again.

So I see everyone attributing “gaslight gatekeep girlboss” to all their modern show characters and twink villains,, which is all fine and dandy,, only I think we’re forgetting the Original Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss and that is this motherfucker right here-

Soooo I have a feeling Basira isn’t going to survive the next few episodes.

Her arc is pretty much over, she has nothing left to do, no more promises to keep. And we know that someone will probably have to die for Annabelle’s plan to work. Also she’s the last remaining archival assistant (excluding Martin since he’s the Antichrist’s plus 1 now), and that job has a worryingly low survival rate.

I also think it fits with her and Daisy’s arc, with their whole “us against them” mentality, it would make sense for them to be together even in death.

Anyways time to get the tissue box

I’ve never theorised much before buT 196 oh my god now I’m wondering whether Jonny naming the character Jonathan Sims after himself was Entirely On Purpose because they’re the same person in different universes?? I always thought it was just gratuitous self insert like you go Jonny boi I too would want to pretend I was a grumpy Archivist eye man,, but now???
