Aurora's fear of losing her community is palpable. Marian and Ada understand this. Agnes, being so tethered to hierarchy and class, not so much. Yes, Aurora's community is over populated with emotionally constipated snobs. It is still daunting to consider losing it because her husband can't accept a marriage in name only.
