Oh my goodness! Berri finally decided to post her OC x Canon here! 😱

I have reposted her reference here! As well as a more on-model one as well. Her name is Esmeralda Celestine, she is a 38-year-old, former Wild Witch that was raised in the Human Realm and specializes in oracle and illusion magic. However, due to some complications, she works under the Emperor’s Coven as the Emperor’s Advisor. In the process, she becomes best friends with Lilith and a parental figure to Hunter. (I have a few drawings of their dynamic, I will finish them later. Hopefully….) Her personality would best be described as deceptive, cold, conniving, poised and soft-spoken, cautious, stubborn, dedicated towards a cause, observant and perceptive.

In the last four panels, Esmeralda lacks her scar because she got it later during a… large fight with Belos.

I apologize if I haven’t been active on Tumblr lately, but I’ve been working very slowly because of school! A lot of my works in progress might have to be cancelled because of a lack of motivation haha, I feel like I need to take my art less seriously :,) Also, my parents confiscated my drawing tablet, so I’m writing everything on a tiny screen currently…

Please forgive me, I’m still yet to figure out how in the world I will manage to draw her backstory, I’m not a very good writer nor a consistent artist 🥲

ORTHODOXIA FAN MV • Emperor Belos • WIP

A quick project I’m working on, inspired off of a few funny drawings I made of Emperor Belos Based off the MV: ORTHODXIA by Guchiry. I just felt like the lyrics and Tadashi Kunai reminded me of his character XD. It’s going to be a 4 minute long video, so stick around to see the progress if you’d like! I’ll probably delete this post later, I just want to check on the feedback. Feel free to drop some friendly advice or ideas for the MV, I’d appreciate a little guidance.

Do you think Belos convinced himself he “saved” Caleb by killing him?

Hello, @raptors-n-foxes!

Knowing his ideology, probably. From the early 1600s, Philip and his brother were raised in what was inferred to be a strict, Puritanical society with little to no regard for kindness towards those who were different from the optimal image of what was right in their religion’s eyes.

Puritans who had began immigration from Britain and other parts of Europe in that time period initially moved to North America (and what was soon to become the colonies) to pursue a more strict and taut practice of their interpretation of the Bible, since they began to view the churches of England as corrupt. So from there, we can already assume that the people of Gravesfield were already very self-righteous and difficult to subject to change. So putting two, vulnerable orphaned brothers in that society would probably lead them to be heavily indoctrinated and influenced, since it’s the only opportunity for survival and a chance at acceptance.

Since Caleb was revealed to be older, he would be less susceptible to conforming in order to be deemed “fit”, and we can see how he eventually overcame such unsavory discrimination when he befriended witches. Philip, being younger, would not. Children with less developed minds are likely to follow in the path of elders that they look up to… Even if their role models aren’t the most optimal ones. And as they grow older, they plunge deeper into the hatred and warped perception of those around them, with a harder chance to get out. Philip Wittebane is a victim of his time period, which later grows up to be a living example of the foolishness and out-dated standards of his time.

So when Caleb left that hole to find sanctum in the Boiling Isles, where he finally found his true home, Philip saw it as an act of betrayal. Not only towards him, but towards their dreams, their town’s ideals, and their future. My personal take of Philip’s thoughts is that he did not believe that his brother, which he had spent his entire life around, would throw their relationship away like that. He would rather believe that Caleb had spent so much time around witches and forbidden magic, that it had taken over his mind and corrupted him. Hence, came the idea of putting him out of his misery. We can see such parallels in King’s Tide (The scene in which he had captured Luz and was trying to convince her to join him in his return to Gravesfield), when Luz had called him a hypocrite; his exact words were…

“I do pity you. These monsters have warped your sense of reality. Perhaps it'd be merciful to put you out of your misery…”

So it’s either his sadism, or Belos is in so much denial that his way is the incorrect way, that he’d rather believe that Caleb and Luz been swept away by dark magic instead. And since he’s had 400 years to mingle upon those thoughts and convince himself he’s in the right, he would believe it. And it’s so twisted, that even hallucinations of his brother have only fed his delusions. In the episode, For the Future, even near his death bed, he replies:

“I tried to save your soul. It's your fault this all happened!”

Which verbally summarizes what his motivation is behind killing his brother. (Maybe he even believes that making grimwalkers of his brother gives him a certain chance at “redemption”; a chance to prove that he doesn’t have to be seduced by the charm of witches and their realm) (Oh, and also… In this clip, the hand that falls off is his right one, leaving him with only his left hand. Which is not only his predominant hand, but also the kind that Puritans were discouraged from using as it was associated with the Devil’s work. Not related to this question, I just thought it would be something interesting to share!)

So, in summary, yes. I do believe that Philip convinced himself that killing Caleb saved him in the long run. This is PART of what makes him evil compared to his older brother. It is his willful refusal to change, to accept the peace between magic and conformity.

Wittober Day 10 - Holy

I experimented using the Bromine Brush trick on this piece. I’m fond of the way I shaded the Titan, but Belos’s smile is creeping me out a little…

Philip Wittebane Doodles: Part 2 🤍

Heya! There’s still a couple more of these doodles to finish, but they’re in the oven and baking <3. I might do a Wittebro comic based off a small one-shot I made, since the last one did very well! (I’m definitely going to draw Evelyn in the next one, she’s so pretty and I love seeing fanmade interpretations of her design!)

Until then, have a couple of Wittebane brother doodles, and a baby Hunter! (The last sketch is based off one of my favorite Hollow Mind portraits, and is a close-up from the second image.)

Fun fact: During my English class, I actually had a lecture about the philosophy of Puritans in the late 17th century, and the manipulation and scapegoating behind the Salem Witch trials. Although I do believe that Philip Wittebane’s experience with witch hunts was prior to the 1690s, he was still a victim of the strict, conservative colonial lifestyle. It was absolutely fascinating to watch re-enactments of the trials, and take notes. Later, I actually had a chance to talk to my teacher about my own research, and showed him a painting I made of the witch trials. I do hope we have lessons like that in the future!

“Sacrifice”

Oopsie… I realized that when I posted those doodles yesterday, I forgot to put up this small comic along with it-

It’s the scene in “Elsewhere and Elsewhen”, when Lilith and Luz learn about Philip’s true intentions. For some strange reason, it really spooked me out, hearing his eerily calm voice saying “I needed a sacrifice”. You could definitely tell it was Belos from that point onwards. This ended up being my favorite scene overall in the episode, so I made it into a lil piece. Sorry if I got too lazy with shading…

The Wittebro doodles are cooking, so they’ll still need some time <3. But they’ll be there in a few weeks tops!

My apologies for the rush! This is an unfinished piece that I started in the beginning of the summer, when I was still getting accustomed to digital art (I was still learning about how to render and blend colors more gently). I got a little lazy, so forgive the crappy anatomy XD

This was inspired off of @frigidfries’s art, I immediately thought of how much Belos thinks of himself as a martyr in his own delusions . The stained glass window, depicting him as a deity and God in front of the entire Isles, is so hypocritical once the viewer can see his true intentions, which would repulse even a true monster.

(I remember listening to “Hell’s Comin’ with me” by Poor Man’s Poison on repeat while drawing this, that’s where I got the title-)

This is a silly little gif I made during class, and it was originally supposed to be based off of Belos’s face reveal in Eclipse Lake, during his confrontation with Hunter.

For the record, I’m working on more content. I have a few memes and doodles that I’m still working on; However, with the start of classes again, I have to take my own pace.
