i finished reading lady midnight yesterday (after MONTHS) and i fear it has taken me back into shadowhunter brainrot. i blame the will, jem, and tessa mentions because nothing gets me quicker than any mention of will herondale. he really is the blue print for haunting the narrative. just like magnus he's present in like every book of that universe. i couldn't escape him even if i tried. ANYWAYS back to lady midnight. i liked how much there was going on at the same time. like there was emmas parents, there was uncle arthur, emma and julian, the whole investigation, the faerie things with mark, perfect diego mystery, kits story and how mattered enough to be the first POV of the book. i am so exited to read the rest of the triology - the other books will arrive in a few days i think - and to see how everything continues and how the whole emma and julian in love thing will turn out. my suspicion is that they will sever the bond with cortana at the end because why else would they mention that cortana can cut anything??

reading The Golden Raven now and I'm fascinated by how the Ravens, Foxes, and Trojans are so different from one another. I was wondering during TSC "why did Kevin not just keep Jean at Palmetto? They don't have the numbers anyways."

But it's not about the sport. It's about the people. The Foxes care about their teammates, the most notable and reactionary being Matt, Dan, and Renee. They do what they can to take care of everyone, but the rest of the Foxes? Well. I think we can all agree that they're in this mentality of "It is what it is" despite all of their trauma and PTSD being nearly debilitating if they didn't have Exy.

The Trojans are different. They care so much about what Jean has gone through. They don't want him to put aside his trauma to play the game. They want to get to know him. His hurt. His black and red stains that they're not asking him to wash off but maybe go back and forth with a gentle cloth just to see how it feels to see his own skin again.

I see a lot of Matt and Dan in Cat, Laila, and Jeremy, but I think the Trojans have something that the Foxes don't. They lack the Monsters' borderline apathetic response to that trauma. Not that they don't care, but they are not taking on each other's pain in the way that the Trojans are. The Trojans want to carry everything Jean will give them. Even without knowing him.
