I don’t think I ever posted an update or anything here: I got a 5 on AP world, AP Comp Sci Principles, and AP Lang. Dual enrolled US history over the summer, and just finished dual enrolling English 1102, took the AP Comp Sci A exam, and am taking the AP Calc AB exam on monday. May or may not post study stuff here, we’ll see.

PSA: Don't use Open Office
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

the fact that my un was supposed to be “studymaterialstokeepforlater” but got shortened to “studymaterialstokeepforlate” is really funny because it implies i will be keeping each of these until it is too late

Exerpts from my absolute onslaught of “clarifying” comments on my “simple” calculator assignmeng for AP compsci principles (it is over 182 lines long)
(we’re starting our python unit. I already know basically everything that will be taught in this unit. wtf (teacher said ill get to code fish game as a project if i want /pos))
#unrelated but have you seen that one code of a like, C# or java coded calculator that can add/subtract/divide/multiply any two individual numbers up to 60-something and the coder did it by coding something else to hard code every operation. like, if num1=3 and num2=5 and operation=addition answer=8 type of thing? terrifying. I want to do it. (i looked for the code but couldn't find it (sad))
#I need blank lines and I can't be bothered to check if /n works in python. Also this is funnier [in relation to me using 'print("")' to get blank lines on the terminal]
#I don't want to code in fault tolerance and that stuff so... yeah if you do something wrong the server is down
#help how do i python for loop with a variable
#lol i don't need python for loop here
#etc.
#kindness matters :)
#(extra or statements to account for user error (i don't want to figure out how to ignore whether a letter is caps or lowercase so i will instead code more. This is my mantra.))
#(you know it's sad that python doesn't use semicolons to seperate command because in languages that do use it I can just code EVERYTHING on one line and the camp counselors didn't like that but they couldn't do anything because it was technically correct lol)
#talking#ap computer science principles#ap compsci#i have… problems with staying on tasks#managed to keep off-taskness to the comments though#and + points they can’t accuse me of getting an ai to write my code because it is perfectly fucked up <3#main account reblog

so i went through elementary and middle school with a ‘being able to finish near all homework in class’ mindset and quick material absorption.
I just sat down and spent 2 hours and 20 minutes working on AP World homework
I do not think I have ever sat down and just worked on stuff at home for that long
Accomplishments :3
granted i didnt work for that long straight (cause im not straight lol (laugh at my joke. please))
i used the whole ‘Work for 20 minutes than Break for 10 minutes’ strategy (works surprisingly well - definitely helps unfocus brain with no work ethic) do recommend if you’re someone else trying to actually start doing work alone.
(find a break activity that uses different things than your work activity - i worked on taking notes from the online textbook and planned for Dragon con and held a cat in my breaks)
Also actually telling someone who will hold you to it (ie. parent) so you cant back out
#talking#study tips#i failed to type study like 4 times there#personal accomplishments#ap world#ap world history#<- if your teacher has you do guided chapter notes or something similar#DO THEM ON THE DAYS THEY’RE ASSIGNED#Don’t wait to do 6 of the 10 3 days before the quiz#please i am begging you (and past me)

augh AP lang summer reading is kicking my butt.
like, i can read a book in a few hours if i just sit down and read it, but executive disfunction, amotivation, procrastination, and failure to be good at time shit is really working against me here.
I needed to read four chapters of a book about persuasion and arguing and note down general takeaways and the main idea from each chapter.
and then read an entire nonfiction book (we got to pick from a list tho and the one i picked looks interesting as fuck and i want to read it but the brain wont let me :<) and annotate it and connect it back to the arguing book.
i had the entire summer (school starts in like 2-3 weeks, its due a week into school) and i only started last week and i have finished reading the four arguing chapters, used sticky tabs to not important takeaways/main ideas as well as just general interesting shit (also places i definitely think will relate to nonfiction book), and have only written out the main idea/takeaways for the first chapter.
it would take barely 5 minutes to write down the stuff for the other 3 chapters. but i cant.
aaaah

yeah hi this is basically just a place for me to reblog and organize study shit for classes im taking/will take and rant/talk about class related things (“info” tag is for potentially useful class info, “talking” tag is for commentary, (more tags to be added when i do more things))
i do my best to tag everything by the class as well as if i am holding onto the specific post (posts to return to) or the blog itself (blogs to return to) for future reference
feel free to yoink any of the resources collected here or just pass by and ignore me
(or give me more helpful resources, pretty please (my current classes: AP world history, AP english lang, AP computer science principles, my past classes: AP seminar, AP US government and politics (i got a 4 and 5 on the tests)))
feel free to send asks, submit posts, or dm me with questions about classes I’ve taken or are taking <3
