How cool is this!! IDK if any of y’all are on AG reddit, but the girl who modeled for the original Kit illustrations recently posted the story of how she got the job/what it was like and a bunch of photos! I had never even thought about the behind-the-scenes of the book illustrations until now!

if american girl meet outfits were from brandy melville, a series. part 1: Kit, if she wasn’t a butch lesbian for some reason because i’m trying to replicate the outfits as much as possible, but i do feel like she would choose some amelia or molly shorts in white if she bought from here. i feel like she’d be more of a buying from thrift stores to help the planet person though. (also reasoning for this: ag is also a lil racist and hasn’t really drawn a character on a cover that is plus size)

in case you wanted to #agbounding or just replicate this outfit:

- billie sweater in pink $38

- genevieve skirt in this floral pattern $28

- a pink shirt underneath would add to the kit look too, but make sure it’s a little mock neck if you’re going for accuracy here. 

- a green 90s 00s style clip on the side and get the bisexual bob (which i had definitely had as a kid).

Today's doll living with disabilities is my Gabby. I got her for Christmas the year she was GOTY. I love her but I wish she'd gotten more attention and a better collection. I hope we won't have to wait another 16 years for the next black GOTY.

Hi, Gabby loves all art forms. You can see some of her paintings behind her, and she's hard at work on a new masterpiece. She also loves dance and rhythm of all types. She draws, paints, she's tried sculpting a little, honestly she'll try anything creative at least once. She loves to get involved and is always working on something. She gets everywhere by roller blades, and is lead singer in the dollhouse band.

Gabby as written in her book has a stutter, but mine is also dyslexic (just like me). She's reluctant to hand write anything, but loves her computer as spell check really makes it easier for her to be understood. Her grammer isn't always perfect but it's much better on the computer. She also perfers most often to express herself visually. She doesn't stutter when she sings and that means sometimes she just sings random things instead of saying them if she's comfortable enough. She's got tons of personality but is also scared of new people not understanding or thinking she's stupid so she's slow to warm up.

ok american girl rant time: AG needs more asian characters, as in both south and east/southeast asia :( ivy was literally their only asian rep and they discontinued her which breaks my heart (she was so cool too) and as a south asian i feel so underrepresented and i would love to see a desi girl of the year or historical girl. it's definitely necessary and i think the lack of diversity specifically in that area just sends a bad message
