Rewriting my first cotl fic: The Sacrificial Lamb

“When they nod, it is for many reasons. It is because they remember the dying screams of their family and friends. They remember the feeling of an axe in their hand and warm blood seeping through their wool. They remember scrutinizing stares, full of hatred and sickening amusement. And because the lamb has long since learned to distinguish between a question and a demand disguised as such.“

When the last lamb is met with Death, they expect torture for their failures. They expect to be ripped apart by a beast, to feel nothing but agony for the next century. What the lamb does not expect is a deal. absolvement, a second chance at life, and revenge. All in exchange for their everlasting loyalty, a cult in the name of their God, the death of four beasts.

When The Lamb opens their eyes to blood and a blue sky overhead, they know they have made the correct choice.

Basically an AU in which the lamb is a child (specifically around 14) it doesn’t deviate much from the original storyline of the game and is really character driven :>

We know that canonically MTT wouldn’t get along. I wonder if that would play a factor in Nightmare choosing them all. He’d let them argue just enough so the team doesn’t fall apart but so that he gets a constant flow of anguish without having to lift a finger.
