Love this. They do a great job at humanizing their characters.

One thing I’ve never seen the seven people who talk about Raising Hope talk about, is Sabrina and how she turns the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope on it’s head.

She’s set up to be this quirky, sassy, girl next door. She’s everything Jimmy wants. She’s perfect. But then after they become close, they actually give her real human characteristics. She has flaws, she’s insecure, she’s human.

She lashes out at her family because of their wealth, she lashes out at her coworkers because she views herself as better than them. She’s desperate to be seen as Hope’s mother that she’s willing to lie about giving birth to her. She has backup boyfriends to protect herself from getting hurt.

I just love how they took the trope, and made it realistic and made her a very human character.
