Don't be deceived if the surface of the earth is dry. The water spreads out underground in the shape of an onion. In most cases, only the surface of the soil under the drip tube is visibly moist.

Running the supply line across the tops of the plants is easier to install and less expensive but the lines could get in the way if you want to move the plants or walk in between them.

This picture shows a horizontal carrot and two regular sized ones. The two smaller carrots are placed close to the middle, better if about halfway between stock and side of pot, closer in plastic and furthest away with air pots. If adding distribution drippers, best to add them to only one or both of the smaller carrots.
